Hello,
this is probably very dummy issue, but according to <https://en.opensuse.org/
openSUSE:Packaging_Conventions_RPM_Macros#.25_mandir> I'd expect it's enough
to have in %files section %{_mandir}/*/* as %_mandir is pointing to /usr/
share/man/ and compilation creates files in /usr/share/man/man1/, but when I
do so osc build ends up with error:
directories not owned by a package:
- /usr/share/man
- /usr/share/man/man1
Regardles it failed, RPMs are correctly created.
OK, but when I use just %{_mandir} in %files, I get another error:
E: standard-dir-owned-by-package /usr/share/man
E: standard-dir-owned-by-package /usr/share/man/man1
Which seems expectable, referring to <https://en.opensuse.org/
openSUSE:Packaging_checks#standard-dir-owned-by-package>, but I don't see any
3rd option (having or not ./configure --mandir="%{_mandir}" doesn't play any
role) how to include man pages. :-)

Dear openSUSE community,
I'm facing issues using self signed certificates on openSUSE Leap 15.3.
I have a certificate 'gnuhealth-selfsigned.crt' in PEM format and a hostname 'susetest'. Actually I want to use the
update-ca-certificates command. I tried copying the certificate into /usr/share/pki/trust/anchors/ and
/usr/share/pki/trust/ as .crt and renamed to .pem. For all four scenarios the output of 'sudo update-ca-certificates -v'
does not contain something like "1 added" and 'wget https://susetest' does still complain about a selfsigned certificate
afterwards.
Finally I managed to get it working by running 'cat /path/gnuhealth-selfsigned.crt | sudo tee -a
/var/lib/ca-certificates/ca-bundle.pem'. Since this file says "Do not edit!" I'm sure this was not the proper way but I
don't know how to do it properly either. Does someone have an idea what i did wrong with update-ca-certificates? The
certificate was created using OpenSSL.
Kind regards
Gerald

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,
Tumbleweed keeps being predictable when it comes to the update cadence.
This week, we could publish 5 fully tested snapshots (1104, 1105, 1106,
1107, and 1110).
The main changes contained in these snapshots were:
* Mozilla Thunderbird 91.3.0
* Mozilla Firefox 94.0.1
* KDE Gear 21.08.3
* Meson 0.59.4
* GNOME 41.1
* Libvirt 7.9.0
* More improvements to rpmlint 2
Based on the staging projects and the snapshot currently under build,
we predict to be able to deliver these items soon™:
* Coreutils 9.0
* X.org server 21.1: the reported DPI change has been reverted, as it
was much more intrusive than anticipated
* XEN 4.16.0
* Linux kernel 5.15.1: in a later step, the compression method for
kernel modules will be changed from xz to zstd
* Rust 1.56
* ICU 70.1
* Bash: moving away from update-alternatives to handle /bin/sh; To
allow busybox to step in as ‘sh’ provider, we are switching to a
package replacement model (e.g. bash-sh, bysybox-sh). Those packages
will install the relevant /bin/sh symlinks
* tbb 2021.4: breaks opencv3
* gc 8.2.0: breaks texlive and guile
* openSSL 3.0: No visible progress in the staging. Main blockers so
far seems to be python 3.6 and python-cryptography
Cheers,
Dominique

The /sbin/installkernel script was moved to the kernel-install-tools package, which is already available for download.

https://code.opensuse.org/package/dracut/c/c7b5d678046f286e9c963d05e7706ddb…
has
remove /sbin/installkernel script from dracut package
That came in via
https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/923450
but unfortunately, not with a good git-style commit message that
explains the "Why?"
I wonder if a symlink of installkernel to /usr/bin/true would also work.

Hi SUSErs
I just installed Leap 15.3, replacing 15.2, and noticed that the `withlock` package
which requires `python39` fails because it expects python(2).
I figured out that installing the `python` package will quickly fix this.
Mfg Johann
Log:
```
The following 8 NEW packages are going to be installed:
==== python-pybind11 ====
Version update (2.6.2 -> 2.8.0)
- Use libalternatives instead of update-alternatives.
- Update to v2.8.0
* Added py::raise_from to enable chaining exceptions. #3215
* Allow exception translators to be optionally registered local
to a module instead of applying globally across all pybind11
modules. Use
register_local_exception_translator(ExceptionTranslator&&
translator) instead of
register_exception_translator(ExceptionTranslator&& translator)
to keep your exception remapping code local to the module.
[#2650]
* Add make_simple_namespace function for instantiating Python
SimpleNamespace objects. #2840
* pybind11::scoped_interpreter and initialize_interpreter have
new arguments to allow sys.argv initialization. #2341
* Allow Python builtins to be used as callbacks in CPython. #1413
* Added view to view arrays with a different datatype. #987
* Implemented reshape on arrays. #984
* Enable defining custom __new__ methods on classes by fixing bug
preventing overriding methods if they have non-pybind11
siblings. #3265
* Add make_value_iterator(), and fix make_key_iterator() to
return references instead of copies. #3293
* Improve the classes generated by bind_map: #3310
* Change .items from an iterator to a dictionary view.
* Add .keys and .values (both dictionary views).
* Allow __contains__ to take any object.
* pybind11::custom_type_setup was added, for customizing the
PyHeapTypeObject corresponding to a class, which may be useful
for enabling garbage collection support, among other things.
[#3287]
* Set __file__ constant when running eval_file in an embedded
interpreter. #3233
* Python objects and (C++17) std::optional now accepted in
py::slice constructor. #1101
* The pybind11 proxy types str, bytes, bytearray, tuple, list now
consistently support passing ssize_t values for sizes and
indexes. Previously, only size_t was accepted in several
interfaces. #3219
* Avoid evaluating PYBIND11_TLS_REPLACE_VALUE arguments more than
once. #3290
* Bug fix: enum value's __int__ returning non-int when underlying
type is bool or of char type. #1334
* Fixes bug in setting error state in Capsule's pointer methods.
[#3261]
* A long-standing memory leak in py::cpp_function::initialize was
fixed. #3229
* Fixes thread safety for some pybind11::type_caster which
require lifetime extension, such as for std::string_view. #3237
* Restore compatibility with gcc 4.8.4 as distributed by
ubuntu-trusty, linuxmint-17. #3270
* Fix regression in CMake Python package config: improper use of
absolute path. #3144
* Cached Python version information could become stale when CMake
was re-run with a different Python version. The build system
now detects this and updates this information. #3299
* Specified UTF8-encoding in setup.py calls of open(). #3137
* Fix a harmless warning from CMake 3.21 with the classic Python
discovery. #3220
* Eigen repo and version can now be specified as cmake options.
[#3324]
* Reduced thread-local storage required for keeping alive
temporary data for type conversion to one key per ABI version,
rather than one key per extension module. This makes the total
thread-local storage required by pybind11 2 keys per ABI
version. #3275
* Optimize NumPy array construction with additional moves. #3183
* Conversion to std::string and std::string_view now avoids
making an extra copy of the data on Python >= 3.3. #3257
* Remove const modifier from certain C++ methods on Python
collections (list, set, dict) such as (clear(), append(),
insert(), etc...) and annotated them with py-non-const.
* Enable readability clang-tidy-const-return and remove useless
consts. #3254 #3194
* The clang-tidy google-explicit-constructor option was enabled.
[#3250]
* Mark a pytype move constructor as noexcept (perf). #3236
* Enable clang-tidy check to guard against inheritance slicing.
[#3210]
* Legacy warning suppression pragma were removed from eigen.h. On
Unix platforms, please use -isystem for Eigen include
directories, to suppress compiler warnings originating from
Eigen headers. Note that CMake does this by default. No
adjustments are needed for Windows. #3198
* Format pybind11 with isort consistent ordering of imports #3195
* The warnings-suppression "pragma clamp" at the top/bottom of
pybind11 was removed, clearing the path to refactoring and IWYU
cleanup. #3186
* Enable most bugprone checks in clang-tidy and fix the found
potential bugs and poor coding styles. #3166
* Add clang-tidy-readability rules to make boolean casts explicit
improving code readability. Also enabled other misc and
readability clang-tidy checks. #3148
* Move object in .pop() for list. #3116
- Release 2.7.1
* Allow Python builtins to be used as callbacks in CPython. #1413
* Fix regression in CMake Python package config: improper use of
absolute path. #3144
* Fix Mingw64 and add to the CI testing matrix. #3132
* Specified UTF8-encoding in setup.py calls of open(). #3137
* Add clang-tidy-readability rules to make boolean casts explicit
improving code readability. Also enabled other misc and
readability clang-tidy checks. #3148
* Move object in .pop() for list. #3116
* Removed and fixed warning suppressions. #3127 #3129 #3135 #3141
[#3142] #3150 #3152 #3160 #3161
- Release 2.7.0
* Enable py::implicitly_convertible<py::none, ...> for
py::class_-wrapped types. #3059
* Allow function pointer extraction from overloaded functions.
[#2944]
* NumPy: added .char_() to type which gives the NumPy public char
result, which also distinguishes types by bit length (unlike
.kind()). #2864
* Add pybind11::bytearray to manipulate bytearray similar to
bytes. #2799
* pybind11/stl/filesystem.h registers a type caster that, on
C++17/Python 3.6+, converts std::filesystem::path to
pathlib.Path and any os.PathLike to std::filesystem::path.
[#2730]
* A PYBIND11_VERSION_HEX define was added, similar to
PY_VERSION_HEX. #3120
* py::str changed to exclusively hold PyUnicodeObject. Previously
py::str could also hold bytes, which is probably surprising,
was never documented, and can mask bugs (e.g. accidental use of
py::str instead of py::bytes). #2409
* Add a safety guard to ensure that the Python GIL is held when
C++ calls back into Python via object_api<>::operator() (e.g.
py::function __call__). (This feature is available for Python
3.6+ only.) #2919
* Catch a missing self argument in calls to __init__(). #2914
* Use std::string_view if available to avoid a copy when passing
an object to a std::ostream. #3042
* An important warning about thread safety was added to the
iostream.h documentation; attempts to make
py::scoped_ostream_redirect thread safe have been removed, as
it was only partially effective. #2995
* Performance: avoid unnecessary strlen calls. #3058
* Fix auto-generated documentation string when using const T in
pyarray_t. #3020
* Unify error messages thrown by
simple_collector/unpacking_collector. #3013
* pybind11::builtin_exception is now explicitly exported, which
means the types included/defined in different modules are
identical, and exceptions raised in different modules can be
caught correctly. The documentation was updated to explain that
custom exceptions that are used across module boundaries need
to be explicitly exported as well. #2999
* Fixed exception when printing UTF-8 to a
scoped_ostream_redirect. #2982
* Pickle support enhancement: setstate implementation will
attempt to setattr __dict__ only if the unpickled dict object
is not empty, to not force use of py::dynamic_attr()
unnecessarily. #2972
* Allow negative timedelta values to roundtrip. #2870
* Fix unchecked errors could potentially swallow signals/other
exceptions. #2863
* Add null pointer check with std::localtime. #2846
* Fix the weakref constructor from py::object to create a new
weakref on conversion. #2832
* Avoid relying on exceptions in C++17 when getting a shared_ptr
holder from a shared_from_this class. #2819
* Allow the codec's exception to be raised instead of
RuntimeError when casting from py::str to std::string. #2903
* In setup_helpers.py, test for platforms that have some
multiprocessing features but lack semaphores, which
ParallelCompile requires. #3043
* Fix pybind11_INCLUDE_DIR in case CMAKE_INSTALL_INCLUDEDIR is
absolute. #3005
* Fix bug not respecting WITH_SOABI or WITHOUT_SOABI to CMake.
[#2938]
* Fix the default Pybind11Extension compilation flags with a
Mingw64 python. #2921
* Clang on Windows: do not pass /MP (ignored flag). #2824
* pybind11.setup_helpers.intree_extensions can be used to
generate Pybind11Extension instances from cpp files placed in
the Python package source tree. #2831
* Enable clang-tidy performance, readability, and modernization
checks throughout the codebase to enforce best coding
practices. #3046, #3049, #3051, #3052, #3080, and #3094
* Checks for common misspellings were added to the pre-commit
hooks. #3076
* Changed Werror to stricter Werror-all for Intel compiler and
fixed minor issues. #2948
* Fixed compilation with GCC < 5 when the user defines
_GLIBCXX_USE_CXX11_ABI. #2956
* Added nox support for easier local testing and linting of
contributions. #3101 and #3121
* Avoid RTD style issue with docutils 0.17+. #3119
Hi,
Could somebody help me to understand why Tumbleweed times out (after
6h) on update in Github Actions?
An example here:
https://github.com/junghans/opensuse.timeout/runs/4157038196
using the following Dockerfile:
https://github.com/junghans/opensuse.timeout/blob/master/opensuse
Thanks,
Christoph
New package in Factory: barrel
barrel is a command line program to manage various storage
techs. E.g. with a single invocation it can create partitions,
use them for a RAID, create a file system on the RAID and finally
mount the file system (and add things to /etc/mdadm.conf and
/etc/fstab along the way).
I have a honeypot which logs unwanted incoming packets in /var/log/firewall.
I needed to reinstall Tumbleweed on that system. I use a self designed
iptables file with rules.
I use to get lines like:
<timestamp> <hostname> kernel: [ dddd.dddddd] <log-text-defined-in-iptables>
IN=eth0 ....
where d is a digit.
Now instead of [ dddd.dddddd], I get [ dddd.dddddd][ C0]
I wonder where this [ C0] comes from and if I can suppress that part?
When using firewalld with nftables and enabling LogDenied=unicast the <log-
text> is:
"filter_IN_public_REJECT: " . This includes the double quotes, which seems
odd.
The interesting thing is that both kmail and Firefox don't seem to have
that problem and follow the chain to the trust anchor, but Emacs (via
gnutls) and openssl (as shown above) fail to verify the start of the
cert chain and error out. What's going on here?
Regards,
Achim.
Chromium is no longer supported in 15.2 due to an issue caused by
compilation with Clang 11.
A newer version of Clang will be pushed to 15.3 to fix these issues.
If you are using Chromium on 15.2, please update to 15.3 so you will
receive the fix for this as soon as it gets released.
==== gawk ====
Version update (5.1.0 -> 5.1.1)
- GNU awk 5.1.1
* asort and asorti now allow FUNCTAB and SYMTAB as the first
argument if a second destination array is supplied. Similarly,
using either array as the second argument is now a fatal error.
Additionally, using either array as the destination for split(),
match(), etc. also causes a fatal error.
* The new -I/--trace option prints a trace of the byte codes as
they are executed.
* A number of subtle bugs relating to MPFR mode that caused
differences between regular operation and MPFR mode have been
fixed.
* The API now handles MPFR/GMP values slightly differently,
requiring different memory management for those values.
* $0 and the fields are now cleared before starting a BEGINFILE
rule.
* Handling of Infinity and NaN values has been improved
* The "no effect" lint warnings have been fixed up and now behave
more sanely.
* The behavior of strongly-typed regexp constants when passed as
the third argument to sub() or gsub() has been clarified in the
code and in the manual.
* Similar to item #4 above, division by zero is now fatal in MPFR
mode, as it is in regular mode.
Hi,
I noticed that bbswitch and bbswitch kernel modules seem to get installed by
default, even if no bumblebee/optimus chipset is present (Tumbleweed)
Whats the rationale behind? Feels more like a bug....
Cheers
==== busybox ====
Version update (1.33.1 -> 1.34.1)
Subpackages: busybox-static
- Disable crc32 to avoid conflict with perl-Archive-Zip
(until some project really requires crc32)
- Build busybox-warewulf3 for i586 as well. This allowes to set up
i586 nodes.
- Enable fdisk (jsc#CAR-16)
- Add testsuite-gnu-echo.patch: testing.sh to use GNU echo
- Remove the duplicated config entries and construct the snippets
on the fly based on the main config. This way it's easier to
keep track of what's different
- Update to 1.34.1:
* build system: use SOURCE_DATE_EPOCH for timestamp if available
* many bug fixes and new features
* touch: make FEATURE_TOUCH_NODEREF unconditional
==== clamav ====
Version update (0.103.3 -> 0.103.4)
Subpackages: libclamav9 libfreshclam2
- Update to 0.103.4
* FreshClam:
- Add a 24-hour cool-down for FreshClam clients that have received
an HTTP 403 (Forbidden) response from the CDN. This is to reduce
the volume of 403-response data served to blocked FreshClam
clients that are configured with a tight update-loop.
- Fixed a bug where FreshClam treats an empty CDIFF as an
incremental update failure instead of as an intentional request
to download the whole CVD.
* ClamDScan: Fix a scan error when broken symlinks are encountered on
macOS with "FollowDirectorySymlinks" and "FollowFileSymlinks"
options disabled.
* Overhauled the scan recursion / nested archive extraction logic and
added new limits on embedded file-type recognition performed during
the "raw" scan of each file. This limits embedded file-type
misidentification and prevents detecting embedded file content that
is found/extracted and scanned at other layers in the scanning
process.
* Fix an issue with the FMap module that failed to read from some
nested files.
* Fixed an issue where failing to load some rules from a Yara file
containing multiple rules may cause a crash.
* Fixed assorted compiler warnings.
* Fixed assorted Coverity static code analysis issues.
* Scan limits:
- Added virus-name suffixes to the alerts that trigger when a scan
limit has been exceeded. Rather than simply
Heuristics.Limits.Exceeded, you may now see limit-specific
virus-names, to include:
+ Heuristics.Limits.Exceeded.MaxFileSize
+ Heuristics.Limits.Exceeded.MaxScanSize
+ Heuristics.Limits.Exceeded.MaxFiles
+ Heuristics.Limits.Exceeded.MaxRecursion
+ Heuristics.Limits.Exceeded.MaxScanTime
- Renamed the Heuristics.Email.ExceedsMax.* alerts to align with
the other limit alerts names. These alerts include:
+ Heuristics.Limits.Exceeded.EmailLineFoldcnt
+ Heuristics.Limits.Exceeded.EmailHeaderBytes
+ Heuristics.Limits.Exceeded.EmailHeaders
+ Heuristics.Limits.Exceeded.EmailMIMEPartsPerMessage
+ Heuristics.Limits.Exceeded.EmailMIMEArguments
- Fixed an issue where the Email-related scan limits would alert
even when the "AlertExceedsMax" (--alert-exceeds-max) scan option
is not enabled.
- Fixes an issue in the Zip parser where exceeding the "MaxFiles"
limit or the "MaxFileSize" limit would abort the scan but would
fail to alert. The Zip scan limit issues were independently
identified and reported by Aaron Leliaert and Max Allan.
* Fixed a leak in the Email parser when using the --gen-json scan
option.
* Fixed an issue where a failure to record metadata in the Email
parser when using the --gen-json scan option could cause the Email
parser to abort the scan early and fail to extract and scan
additional content.
* Fixed a file name memory leak in the Zip parser.
* Fixed an issue where certain signature patterns may cause a crash or
cause unintended matches on some systems when converting characters
to uppercase if a UTF-8 unicode single-byte grapheme becomes a
multi-byte grapheme. Patch courtesy of Andrea De Pasquale.
LS,
How can I force the system console to have either a different font size
or graphic resolution, then the graphic environment under KDE.
I can set the resolution in grub, however, that ends during the boot
phase when the graphics driver is loaded. At that time it switches to
the maximum resolution of the monitor. Which is perfect for the KDE
environment, but makes the text on the system console unreadable small
using an 4K monitor.
How to to force a different resolution for the system console?
Regards, Frans.
Hi, everyone.
I installed the materia-gtk-theme package from the Leap 15.3 OSS repo
on Leap 15.3 and it looks broken:
https://paste.opensuse.org/33940167
https://paste.opensuse.org/66573132
The steps to reproduce the bug are:
1. Boot from the Leap 15.3 GNOME Live
2. sudo zypper in gnome-shell-extension-user-theme materia-gtk-theme
3. Open Tweaks and enable the User themes extension
4. Log out and log in from GNOME
5. Open Tweaks again and apply the Materia theme, both to Applications and Shell
6. Open the system menu and click Power Off (of course, this is just
an example, it's broken in other places)
I realized the solution was to compile Materia against the correct
GNOME version. If not specified, it compiles against version 3.38.
Maybe this is not a problem for Tumbleweed (I didn't test it on TW),
but it's a problem for Leap 15.3, which has GNOME 3.34. Informing the
GNOME version to the build script solves the problem.
You can download a working materia-gtk-theme package for Leap 15.3
from my OBS repo:
https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:kamarada:15.3:dev/materia-gtk-…
Here is the diff to the Leap 15.3 RPM spec file:
https://build.opensuse.org/package/rdiff/home:kamarada:15.3:dev/materia-gtk…
I tried to submit the fix to the openSUSE:Leap:15.3 project, but OBS said:
"The target project openSUSE:Backports:SLE-15-SP3:Update is a
maintenance release project, a submit self is not possible, please use
the maintenance workflow instead."
Does anyone know how to submit that fix? Or could you apply the fix by
yourselves?
Thanks!
Antonio
LS,
When using an 4K monitor and yast2, I noticed that yast2 is using almost
3/4 of my screen with unreadable small characters. The only way to make
it useful is to zoom in many times and to drag the window borders back.
Is there a setting so that yast2:
a - use normal sized windows, and
b - to use characters sizes to have readable text.
Regards, Frans.
Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,
The weather is getting colder, days shorter, motivation to go outside
is shrinking. Which leaves more time in front of the computer, helping
Tumbleweed roll. And roll it did during the last week! We have
published 6 snapshots (number 7 needed to be discarded due to vi
installation issues). The snapshots released were numbered 1028, 1029,
1030, 1031, 1101, and 1102.
The most relevant updates shipped as part of those snapshots were:
* pcre2 10.38 (I wish we could get rid of the old pcre 8.x version at
least in the bootstrap cycle)
* KDE Plasma 5.23.2
* pipewire 0.3.39
* Mesa 21.2.5
* Bison 3.8.2
* GDB 11.1
* Meson 0.59.3
Staging projects are almost all filled up, you can expect changes like
these in the near (for most parts) future:
* Mozilla Thunderbird 91.3.0
* Mozilla Firefox 94.0
* KDE Gear 21.08.3
* More improvements to rpmlint 2: next up: Fix “no-library-
dependency-for” errors
* Bash: moving away from update-alternatives to handle /bin/sh; To
allow busybox to step in as ‘sh’ provider, we are switching to a
package replacement model (e.g. bash-sh, bysybox-sh). Those packages
will install the relevant /bin/sh symlinks
* Meson 0.59.4 (followed by the stricter 0.60 branch)
* Linux kernel 5.15
* tbb 2021.4: breaks opencv3
* gc 8.2.0: breaks texlive and guile
* X.org server 21.1: causes some havon on openQA as font rendering
changed due to DPI reporting changes
* Coreutils 9.0
* openSSL 3.0
Cheers,
Dominique
Hello,
I packaged the macchina (a lightweight neofetch alternative) [1] package for
TW (only, because of a too early Rust version on 15.3, 15.4 will be
compatible)
It is building successfully on utilities [2], and will request it's
introduction in Factory for all supported arches, i.e. `x86_64`, `aarch64` and
`ppc64*`
I'm, of course, open to suggestions
With a recent Tumbleweed snapshot (probably 20211023), the utility installkernel
was removed from /usr/sbin. Without this code, a kernel 'make install' returns
"Cannot find LILO.". I could not tell if I was in a decades-long time warp, or
if Linda Walsh had gained control. Copying the one from my Leap 15.3 partition
restored the functionality.
In Leap 15.3, this file is in the dracut package, but definitey missing in
Tumbleweed.
