[opensuse-factory] MultiKey/Compose strangeness after last TW update

Hi list, two days ago I did upgrade my home Tumbleweed machine from 20191216 to 20200325. Since this upgrade, I have issues with the compose key setup. I have right Alt defined as MultiKey in .Xmodmap: keysym Alt_R = Multi_key An so far could (in any text field) use, e.g., Alt - " - a to get an umlaut-a. (compose definitions are in .XCompose) After the upgrade, in Emacs the MultiKey is just completely ignored and I get "a instead. If I put focus on an XTerm, when pressing the right Alt key, a weird Icon pops up somewhere on the screen (seems to be some last-remembered location, so it's not neccessarily in the same window where focus is). See attached gif (this is 4kB, so I guess that's OK). The Compose then does work there, but of course the main place where I need it is in the editor :( I tried to figure out what is catching the input and/or where this behavior is defined (shortcuts etc), but without success. So any hints where to look are highly appreciated....

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers, The week started with problems inside the openSUSE Tumbleweed distribution (caught by QA, so no worries) and ended even worse: we have some trouble on openQA since Thursday and many tests are failing. The failures seem more to be related to openQA’s infrastructure though, and not to openSUSE Tumbleweed. Nevertheless, we will not publish new snapshots until QA is stable again. During this week we have thus only released two snapshots: 0326 and 0331 (promised, no joke). The snapshots contained these updates: * Kubernetes 1.18.0 * Linux kernel 5.5.13 * Rust 1.41.1 * XFCE 4.14.2 The things being worked on are * KDE Plasma 5.18.4.1 * Linux kernel 5.6.0 * Systemd 245: homed will not be enabled/offered just yet * Poppler 0.86.1 * GNOME 3.34.5: last stable version from the 3.34 branch; this supposedly still gets into Leap 15.2 (via SLE). After this, the team can start focusing on GNOME 3.36.x; a maintained mozjs68 package is the main blocker on this path though * GNU Make 4.3: missing only a fix for daps * Guile 3.0.2: breaks gnutls’ test suite on i586 * LLVM 10 * Qt 5.15.0 (currently beta2 being tested) * Ruby 2.7 – possibly paired with the removal of Ruby 2.6 * GCC 10 as the default compiler * Removal of Python 2: quite some progress done, but not fully there yet Cheers, Dominique

After a Tumbleweed update, mpv no longer plays movie files on a samba share of my NAS drive. The Tumbleweed version is 20200309. Opening the movie file from the commandline throws the following error: $ mpv smb://admin@192.168.0.100/share/movie/1.mp4 [ffmpeg] Protocol not found. Make sure ffmpeg/Libav is compiled with networking support. Failed to open smb://admin@192.168.0.100/share/movie/1.mp4. I am using the following versions of ffmpeg and libav* from the Packman repository. ffmpeg4: 4.2.2-5.2 libavdevice58: 4.2.2-5.2 libavfilter7: 4.2.2-5.2 libavformat58: 4.2.2-5.2 libavresample4: 4.2.2-5.2 libavutil56: 4.2.2-5.2 I have seen a similar complaint on openSUSE forum which describes the exact same problem: https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/539418-tumbleweed-update-no-long… Does anything change recently on buliding the ffmpeg and/or mpv related packages? [opensuse-factory] error to run susepaste command but works ok

Hello. The susepaste command to upload a file or screenshot tu susepaste service gives an error, when you try to upload the file or screenshot, but it works fine, and checking the susepaste recent files the uploads are ok. Maybe the script needs to be updated, or fix something? Don't know if Michal Hrusecky (the original developer of this script) is still around. Hi there, this is on build ID 617.1. I use the script setup-pulseaudio sometimes to disable pulseaudio for a user session. This used to work without any trouble (on Leap 15.1 at least), but today I still found two processes running when logged in: "/usr/bin/pulseaudio --daemonize" and "/usr/lib/pulse/gconf-helper". And indeed, running "pavucontrol" doesn't hang/stop as it normally does when PA is disabled. As a consequence, Kodi refuses to switch to a non-PA audio setup, hence playing back some more enhanced video files and using audio passthrough is not possible. I don't want to discuss the issue with audio passthrough etc., but my main concern is "why does systemd always start up a pulseaudio daemon when logging in" - even when PA is disabled. To be honest, I don't know if this is a recent issue or if it existed in earlier builds, too, but I just realised it due to another issue with the 5.6 kernel not being able to do audio via HDMI anymore... Does anybody have an idea? Bugzilla? TIA, cheers. l8er manfred

add a control sequence which, like tcap-query, allows an application to inspect most X resource settings of the VT100 widget. - adjust some optional features to enable them in the imake configuration as they would be by default via the configure script. - add null-pointer checks to improve error recovery when bitmap fonts are missing or corrupt (report by Jonne Ransijn). - correct the condition for deleting the EWMH window-title property, i.e., if UTF-8 titles are disabled, rather than if an update to the EWHM property found no change (report by Sven Joachim). - improve title-string feature: - if any of allowC1Printable, utf8Title or titleModes hint that an application might send a title-string encoded in UTF-8, check if that is the case, and if it is recodable into ISO-8859-1, use that for the ICCCM-style title. - check if the title given by a control sequence happens to be already encoded in UTF-8, to avoid double-encoding (FreeBSD #240393). - Make sameName resource work for the EWMH titles. - Modify menu-state of utf8Title to be consistent with the utf8 source, i.e., setting the EWMH properties automatically when UTF-8 is active. - reorganize text-drawing to make it possible to investigate using Xft to implement VT100-style double-sized characters. While doing this, made a workaround for apparent Xft bug which loses its drawable state when switching from 132 to 80 columns. - improve font-warning messages by showing which are derived rather than directly from resource settings (suggested by Tomas Korbar). Also filter repeated font-warning messages, to accommodate broken X configurations. - fix an inconsistency between failure to load derived wide font versus failure to load derived wide-bold font (Redhat #1679790). That relies upon the ?:unscaled? property which is broken in some distributions (however, recent Debian and the BSDs such as MacOS work). - updated autoconf-252 to check X11R7 include/lib directories found on some older configurations. - set a graphic-context for border when double-buffering is active; to prevent the border color from changing when switching to reverse-video. - build-fix for --disable-ziconbeep, which conflicted with the new double-buffer configuration (report by Brian Lindholm). - fix loop-limit for lookup of fullscreen resource broken in xterm #347 (report by Scott Bertilson). - Patch #348 - 2019/07/22 - update window-manager hints when exiting Tek4014 mode (Debian #932569, patch by Jonathan Irwin). - fix a misformatted printf in report-sgr.pl. - add configure check for termios types, to improve compiler-warnings. - ensure that when resetting margins, to also reset DECLRMM. All four options were required to trigger it. The crash occurred in the progress indicator code when xz was in passthru mode where xz works like "cat". - Fixed an integer overflow with 32-bit off_t. It could happen when decompressing a file that has a long run of zero bytes which xz would try to write as a sparse file. Since the build system enables large file support by default, off_t is normally 64-bit even on 32-bit systems. - Fixes for --flush-timeout: * Fix semi-busy-waiting. * Avoid unneeded flushes when no new input has arrived since the previous flush was completed. - Added a special case for 32-bit xz: If --memlimit-compress is used to specify a limit that exceeds 4020 MiB, the limit will be set to 4020 MiB. The values "0" and "max" aren't affected by this and neither is decompression. This hack can be helpful when a 32-bit xz has access to 4 GiB address space but the specified memlimit exceeds 4 GiB. This can happen e.g. with some scripts. - Capsicum sandbox is now enabled by default where available (FreeBSD >= 10). Dear Wolfgang, the next FF release (75.0) is going to be exciting (for me, at least), since it is about to fix a 13 years(!) old bug [1]: session handling. Currently, it's in b9 state [2]. Do you see a chance to revive mozilla:beta/firefox again? I would wipe all files, replace them with mozilla:Factory/MozillaFirefox and update the essential parts, but not sure, if it's worth the effort. The last times, I've done FF builds were a really unpleasant experience due to Rust woes. What do you think? recently I replaced my backup disk (/dev/sdb1) to a bigger one (5Tb -> 12Tb), after a cold start or "shut down" the new disk is not recognized (lsblk, lsscsi, lspci), after "reboot" it is available and works smoothly- any timeouts to adjust?? Hi, looks like as if many don't know that openSUSE has an own container registry and application containers. The registry can be found at https://registry.opensuse.org/ Since the UI is not really helpful to find official images between all the home, devel and test projects and you cannot show documentation there, I started a wiki portal for this: https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Container The base containers and application containers, at least as far as I know how to use them, could be found there. Including documentation.
