Handbrake output (from any input format) on TW does not include sound. This has been flagged as a build problem on the Handbrake forum (incompatible ffmpeg libs). [opensuse-factory] Changing the Chair of the Board

Dear Community, After six years on the openSUSE Board and five as its Chairperson, I have decided to step down as Chair of the openSUSE Board effective today, August 19. This has been a very difficult decision for me to make, with reasons that are diverse, interlinked, and personal. Some of the key factors that led me to make this step include the time required to do the job properly, and the length of time I've served. Five years is more than twice as long as any of my predecessors. The time required to do the role properly has increased and I now find it impossible to balance the demands of the role with the requirements of my primary role as a developer in SUSE, and with what I wish to achieve outside of work and community. As difficult as it is to step back from something I've enjoyed doing for so long, I am looking forward to achieving a better balance between work, community, and life in general. Serving as member and chair of the openSUSE Board has been an absolute pleasure and highly rewarding. Meeting and communicating with members of the project as well as championing the cause of openSUSE has been a joyous part of my life that I know I will miss going forward. openSUSE won't get rid of me entirely. While I do intend to step back from any governance topics, I will still be working at SUSE in the Future Technology Team. Following SUSE's Open Source policy, we do a lot in openSUSE. I am especially looking forward to being able to focus on Kubic & MicroOS much more than I have been lately. As I'm sure it's likely to be a question, I wish to make it crystal clear that my decision has nothing to do with the Board’s ongoing efforts to form an independent openSUSE Foundation. The Board’s decision to form a Foundation had my complete backing as Chairperson, and will continue to have as a regular openSUSE contributor. I have absolute confidence in the openSUSE Board; Indeed, I don't think I would be able to make this decision at this time if I wasn't certain that I was leaving openSUSE in good hands. On that note, SUSE has appointed Gerald Pfeifer as my replacement as Chair. Gerald is SUSE's EMEA-based CTO, with a long history as a Tumbleweed user, an active openSUSE Member, and upstream contributor/maintainer in projects like GCC and Wine. Gerald has been a regular source of advice & support during my tenure as Chairperson. In particular, I will always remember my first visit to FOSDEM as openSUSE Chair. Turning up more smartly dressed than usual, I was surprised to find Gerald, a senior Director at SUSE, diving in to help at the incredibly busy openSUSE booth, and doing so dressed in quite possibly the oldest and most well-loved openSUSE T-shirt I've ever seen. When booth visitors came with questions about SUSE-specific stuff, I think he took some glee in being able to point them in my direction while teasingly saying "Richard is the corporate guy here, I'm just representing the community.." Knowing full well he will continue being so community minded, while finally giving me the opportunity to tease him in return, it is with a similar glee I now hand over the reigns to Gerald. As much as I'm going to miss things about being chairperson of this awesome community, I'm confident and excited to see how openSUSE evolves from here. Trying to install an upgrade of recoll, but I get a persistent error: Problem: nothing provides libQt5Core.so.5(Qt_5.13)(64bit) needed by recoll-1.25.19-1.8.x86_64 Solution 1: do not install recoll-1.25.19-1.8.x86_64 Solution 2: break recoll-1.25.19-1.8.x86_64 by ignoring some of its dependencies Choose from above solutions by number or cancel [1/2/c] (c): I searched on google, and the same problem was found with different QT versions on earlier openSUSE versions -- top 2 hits from 2010 and 2017. So besides wondering where Qt 5.13 would be (I found mostly qt 5.12 in my latest refresh of tumbleweed, though a few have 5.13 version numbers (311 packages with 5.12 version, with 32 showing 5.13 versions), why would most of the numbers be from an earlier version? Though main question, is why should opensuse seem to have the most of this type of problem? To see what I saw, just paste the subject into a google search, and that should show you the earlier versions. Anyway, seems odd that this _seems_ to affect opensuse more often than with other vendors -- maybe something to do with tumbleweed, but was it around in 2010? I guess I'll try refreshing my repo again. Dear Dominique, looks like the latest moves in the transitioning to pkgconf results in some hiccups in all packages, that requires pkg-config for build, and are subject of rebuilding, due to: conflict for providers of /usr/bin/pkg-config needed by libuuid-devel, (provider pkgconf-pkg-config conflicts with pkg-config) I solved it by adding: Substitute: pkg-config pkgconf-pkg-config to the affected projects, but this is a bit tedious of course. Hi list, as a follow up to our announcement of an official openSUSE Tumbleweed Vagrant box (https://www.suse.com/c/vagrant-boxes-with-opensuse-tumbleweed-check-it-out/) I'd like to ask any maintainers of openSUSE Vagrant boxes whether you'd like these to appear under the openSUSE organization on Vagrant Cloud (https://app.vagrantup.com/opensuse/)? Your box must be built on OBS and it must be part of the openSUSE: namespace. To get it linked to Vagrant Cloud, I'll need a link to the $boxname.json file that is generated by OBS' publisher (found in the 'boxes/' subdirectory in the published repository, e.g.: http://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/appliances/boxes/openSUSE-Tumblewee… for the official Tumbleweed box). Your boxes' name and description will be generated from this json file, so if you wish these to be changed to some other values, please let me know. Please note that the boxes only appear as a link on Vagrant Cloud and are not uploaded there (they are hosted by download.opensuse.org) Thus, only the last published version of each box will be visible on Vagrant Cloud, so please make sure that your box is being tested by openQA to prevent broken boxes from being published. How is tumbleweed-cli supposed to be used? I'm installing from http://download.opensuse.org/history/, based on 'latest'. This gives me a openSUSE-20190810-0.repo file. I'm sure YaST always wrote that format. After installation, 'tumbleweed init' must be called. An 'tumbleweed upgrade' recognizes that it has to update from 20190810 to 20190814. But no .repo file is changed. Also 'uninit' appears to fail, "revert 0 repos?". Is this correct usage, and the tool is not uptodate? Or does it need to be used differently? Also I wonder if the URL schema is useful. After all, it is the history of "tumbleweed", so the layout should be "/history/tumbleweed/$latest/" instead of "/history/$latest/tumbleweed/". Just in case there will be another variant with snapshots... Olaf

Hi release managers and openQA reviewers, As part of this task "42.3 upgrade tests use GM image instead of updated one" https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/39305 I plan to rename the names of the test suites that start with update_ to upgrade_ to avoid confusion. Definitions taken into account: - Security fixes (bugfix, PTF) -> zypper patch - Update = security fixes + update packages -> zypper update - Upgrade = Switch distribution version (eg.
