Hi, I was playing around with my server today, having some fun with setting up some services on it, and I noticed that nextcloud requires apache2 for no particular reason. So I went to mess with some specs. For quite some time I wanted to switch packaging around, as /srv should stay reserved for user needs and not packaging. It's easy to set up random sub pages and stuff manually with default apache/nginx configs when /srv is empty, however when it is also used for packaging, it makes unnecessary amount of mess in there, when default configuration could be solved with apache/nginx configs shipped with packages themselves. Don't get me wrong, I like when I install software and it instantly works, but this doesn't really require server software to be installed in /srv, it could work as well in /usr directories. I really don't like defaults to be forced upon me, I like when there are sub packages for different options I can use with certain software. Requiring apache2 with any server software is a crime if nothing else. I understand that with databases, certain stuff will plain not work when you switch mysql for pgsql, I accept that as a sad fact of reality, but there is (almost) no reason why any server software wouldn't work with nginx when apache is recommended. Even if I have to write the configs myself *and then push them upstream for anybody to use*. There are a few examples of software that requires requires apache, but it's rare. Taking nextcloud as an example, it recommends sqlite installation and requires mysql, when both can work independently with nextcloud (I believe it also kinda supports pgsql, but don't quote me on that). This could easily be split into 3 packages, with the same provides, similar supplements and a requirement in the main package to install one of three sub packages for the database based on the provides set up earlier. In similar fashion, that could be done with web server. This is not really a rant, I'm ready to do the work on all of this, but a heads up, I really want to do this now. If anybody is willing to join in on the fun of getting 60 packages sorted, come and join me. [opensuse-factory] Am I the only one with massive pulseaudio-bluetooth problems since ~ last week?

Hi dear former colleagues and great opensuse community! I am back, with a different e-mail address, but still running Tumbleweed on ~5 desktops. and I am taking the following problem as a "hello again, I am back!"... Since about a week all of them fail to connect to my Bluetooth headphones and other audio devices. They connect, then disconnect. I didn't find anything about that in the forests of Google and on opensuse mailing lists - I find it hard to believe I am the only one that suffers from that... (on Dell, Acer, and Lenovo hardware). Android phones connect instantly. Who can help? I just found out that a package I maintain (php-cs-fixer) got a request, which was accepted within three hours (and not by me). Why? Shouldn't maintainers be allowed a few days before someone stepping in? I'm f*cking pissed that someone just accepted this change without having a clue of what he is doing. Note: the 'new' version was released on the same date as the previous one and I deliberately choose not to use that one. [opensuse-factory] Are OBS _constraints a broken concept?

Hi everyone, anyone else waiting for a package to go through Staging to land in Tumbleweed? Better see yourself to a large stack of book/DVDs/BluRays/whatever, as that will probably not happen in the near future. Just have a look at the Dashboard [1], and notice almost every Staging is stuck at 99%. And if you dig any deeper, all Stagings are waiting for Firefox to be built. Now, Firefox apparently is a monster and needs 16GByte of memory to build, but that's not the relevant part. The OBS has 4 workers able to build Firefox, and as FF needs about 2 hours to complete it should be able to complete a Staging about twice an hour. Unfortunately, that's only half (or more likely 5%) of the truth ... --- As we all know, FF runs much better if you rebuild it in your home project, just _link or copypac the one from the Mozilla OBS project. Make sure you build it for Leap 15.0, 15.1 and Tumbleweed, just in case. If you need some more customization, add a llvm and gcc copy, and ideally modify their _constraints to <physicalmem>16GB</> - you want it to build fast, after all ... Of course you can add _constraints to any other package as well. --- end of rant --- Several of the copies are the personal development projects of the respective package maintainers, and there also a few copies which are just personal experiments. These are IMHO using the OBS for what it is meant for. The majority, however are just plain links to the development projects, revision count 1, sitting there forever, creating bit-identical copies of other projects. Currently, it is possible for a single user to stage a DoS on the OBS, deliberately, by lack of knowledge or by just not caring. I think this is far from ideal. So, any good ideas how to remove these annoying delays from the Stagings? Hi all, A week ago I asked on this list about ImageMagick's security settings, because it is an issue when using LyX. A follow-up question: would it be acceptable if LyX requires/recommends ImageMagick-config-7-upstream instead of going with the default? This question comes from one of the main developers of LyX, in whose opinion LyX with a crippled ImageMagick is not really usable and when we leave it to the (informed) user to make the change, we make it more difficult for average users. It is about a balance between security and usability. I am not a security expert, so I will accept the verdict given, but for the sake of the ease of the use of LyX I wanted to ask. To give context: we hardly get bug reports for LyX on openSUSE, but for a non-working eps preview we got a bug report. Dear Users, A new snapshot, 20190708, has been published to the mirrors and is available for installation. Unofrtunately, the release mail will not come. In the last days, the openqa infrastructure was upgraded to Leap 15.1 (yay!) - and the web app producing the changelogs for the announcement is also running on this server. Unofrtunately, the upgrade caused a minor issue on this app - which is not installed from a package, but comes directly from git checkouts. As a consequence, it remained unnoticed that a package was no longer present on said machine. This issue has now been fixed, the missing package installed and the webapp is back operational. This means that the next snapshot to be published (hopefully 0709) should have the release announcement mail again and will contain the changelog of 0708 in plus (as the bot always does the diff to the last published changelog file it has) Additionally, there is a minor glitch which I can warn you about regarding this snapshot: The package python-Sphin1 has been renamed to python2-Sphinx (which is more in line with the package naming standards). This naturally resulted in rebuilt packages. The old as well as the new source package produce a python2-Sphinx-1.8.5-1.1.rpm - with different content. The repo metadata now contains the info about the NEW variant of those two RPMs, but most mirrors will stick with what they already have, as they check the file names to identify what needs to be mirrored. I retriggered this package for a rebuild, which will also be part of 0709 - resulting in python2-sphinx-1.8.5-1.2.rpm. This will allow mirrors to see this as a new file to be mirrored.

Hi all, I'd like to add a new package to Factory: solo. The solo package provides support for the Solo and Solo Tap security key [1]. These are USB (and NFC) keys for use with Webauthn / FIDO2. The package is based on the upstream main solo source repository [2] and maintained in the Hardware project. Currently the only binary package provided ensures proper udev rules are in place so that local non-root users can use the devices. I plan on also packaging the Python client [3] that can be used to configure and flash the devices. However, there are currently some dependency issues for that one. As basic support already solves the most important use case (webauthn) I did not want to delay submission until those are resolved. SUSE will blacklist a number of legacy and/or less frequently used file systems by default on SLES for security reasons. The proposed list can be seen here: https://github.com/openSUSE/suse-module-tools/pull/5/commits/8cb42fb6658f21… The question is now whether we should do the same for openSUSE. I figure that while the above list is probably not controversial for enterprise customers, openSUSE users may have objections to some items on the list. Please speak up if you do. In any case, note that even if we do this, you can re-enable the filesystems you need by simply commenting out lines in the blacklist file. [opensuse-factory] Onboard sound does not initialize correctly anymore

Since some weeks I have the problem on TW, that my onboard sound (Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio) does not initialize anymore on boot. The mixer only shows an connected USB sound device from a headset after booting. Hello all, I want to submit libXpresent to Factory libXpresent provides an X Window System client interface to the Present extension to the X protocol. The Present extension provides a way for applications to update their window contents from a pixmap in a well defined fashion, synchronizing with the display refresh and potentially using a more efficient mechanism than copying the contents of the source pixmap. Upon trying to actually "submit" it (by clicking onto the submit button in the form), after waiting for some time I am seeing connection timeouts in Firefox and ERR_CONNECTION_RESET errors in Chrome. Fabian, I reported the focus stealing issue on the VirtualBox developers news group so that the maintainers for other distros would get a heads-up on the issue. I was not expecting a fix for VB; however, Michael Thayer from Oracle posted a test patch such that "if Qt now gives us delayed information that we have lost the focus, ask the X server directly." His patch works with the unmodified Qt 5.13, and no side effects are expected. If you prefer to leave the original timer value in the Qt code, I can push this patch for VB. [opensuse-factory] How to inform users of security settings (boo#713289)

Hi, I got a bug report that image preview of eps files was not working in LyX (boo#713289). I closed this as WONTFIX, because those settings are there for a reason. What is frustrating for users is: how do they know this is the reason a preview is not working? I found out, because I know a little of the inner workings of LyX, with the help of Google and by looking through related packages in Yast. Can we not find a better way to inform users? An idea to shoot on: when there were issues with plasma and the nouveau 3D driver, the user installing those drivers was informed that he took a risk. Can we use a similar way when a user for example installs ImageMagick: "for security reasons some settings are disabled in openSUSE, if you know what you are doing, you can do this and that to enable those options"? As a user I would appreciate to be informed, especially about something like this, that I know nothing about. Do you think this is a good idea? Or has someone a better one? [opensuse-factory] Possible problem with Qt 5.13

In http://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1140084, there is a report of a VirtualBox guest constantly stealing focus from the host. I have duplicated the result with a fully-updated Tumbleweed with Qt 5.13, VirtualBox 6.0.8, and a Q4OS guest VM. When I booted into Leap 15.1 with Qt 5.9, but using the same version of VB and the same VM, the behavior was normal. This suggests that the problem is with Qt 5.13. In https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-76742, the problem is listed as a Qt regression, and a workaround is suggested there; however, a definite fix is not available. I'm not sure who maintains Qt, but I would like that individual to contact me. [opensuse-factory] Dealing with circular building dependencies

Hi! The Python package python-aws-sam-translator [1] has recently introduced a build dependency on python-cfn-lint which in turn already depends on python-aws-sam-translator which means there is now a circular build between those two packages which can currently only be broken up by disabling the testsuite in the python-aws-sam-translator. I have filed an upstream issue for that [2] but I'm also interested to hear suggestions how this issue could potentially be resolved in OBS. In Debian, there is something called build profiles [3] which allows packages to be bootstrapped with reduced feature sets to avoid build dependencies which helps breaking circular dependencies, then later rebuild the same package with all features enabled once all build dependencies have been built. Is there something similar I could use in OBS to resolve this issue or does anyone have any other suggestion to resolve this issue?
