Hi list, I would like to submit the package python-sphinxcontrib-autoprogram to Factory in the next few days. The package is a convenient addon for sphinx: it allows you to automatically create a documentation of scripts that use python's argparse module. This module is used by some other packages to create their manpages (e.g. gcovr). Adding this package will allow us to ship the documentation for these packages. The package itself is developed on github: https://github.com/sphinx-contrib/autoprogram It has been around for ~4 years, is actively maintained by its author (Hong Minhee) and receives also contributions from others (currently 9 contributors in total). [I'm using leap 42.3, but I guess it's a generic question, so I'm writing to this list.] Folks, is there any documentation that explains the differences, strengths, advantages, etc., between the `LLVMgold.so' plugin for `ar' and `liblto_plugin.so' from gcc? On leap 42.3, a link to the former is installed by default in `/usr/lib/bfd-plugins', while I have to create a link for the latter if I want to use it (using ar's `--plugin' option, or removing the link to `LLVMgold.so') – I guess this is still the case with Tumbleweed... Reason for my question is a crash in `LLVMgold.so', see https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1117239 https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=23928 To circumvent the issue I wonder whether it makes sense to simply replace the plugin with gcc's version, but I can't find any background information whether this is sensible... Hi, I installed TW on a new system, on which frescobaldi refuses to start. On the old system, with a TW of somewhere early November, things went fine. [opensuse-factory] Tumblweed - Review of the week 2018/50

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers, During week 50/2018 Tumbleweed has received 4 snapshots: 1206, 1208, 1211 and 1212. The main changes were in those packages: * Linux Kernel 4.19.7 * Ruby Rails 5.2.1.1 (CVE related changes) * Guile 2.2.4, updated from 2.0 branch * util-linux 2.33 * Updated XFCE4 theming, as announced in the mailing list There are mostly the same big chunks left in the staging areas, some making minor progress though: * glibc 2.28, Python 3.7, openssl 1.1.1: the main blocker, that prevented this staging from building at all, could be identified (perl5.28 caused an endless loop in makeinfo during execution). The staging is still far from ready though, as Python 3.7 is known to be incompatible to Salt * Mesa 18.3 * LLVM7: rust fails to build with LLVM7 * Installer redesign: the sidebar is coming back (showing where in the installation workflow one is currently) * PostgreSQL 11 * Linux kernel 4.19.8 * Perl 5.28 * Qt 5.12.0 * KDE Applications 18.12.0 Seems like the list of staged changes is getting bigger by the week - partially owned to the fact that more and more developers seem to be busy with holiday preparations. [opensuse-factory] openMPI mixup in Tumbleweed/Leap 15.x

Hi, I went through a few packages which have an openMPI dependency or support, and found it quite mixed up: Currently, we have openmpi(1), openmpi2 and openmpi3 in Leap and TW. While openmpi3 is currently unused, openmpi1 and openmpi2 are both used, with similar frequency: https://build.opensuse.org/package/binary/openSUSE:Factory/openmpi2:standar… standard/x86_64/openmpi2-libs-2.1.5-2.1.x86_64.rpm https://build.opensuse.org/package/binary/openSUSE:Factory/openmpi:standard/ standard/x86_64/openmpi-libs-1.10.7-21.1.x86_64.rpm Several programs will end up with implicitly linking to both versions, as libnetcdf and hdf5 use openmpi1 and boost_mpi uses openmpi2. One example is vtk. As both libraries (libmpi.so.12 and libmpi.so.20) export the same symbols for large parts, this is mayhem waiting to happen. For SLE, different MPI versions/implementations are supported using the HPC modules, but for Leap/TW, we should obviously stick with *one* single canonical version. Question now, which version to choose? Apparently, openmpi2 does not work on all architectures (PPC, PPC64BE) [1], and is not supported by some software packages [2]. Are there any drawbacks for using openmpi1 everywhere in TW/Leap 15.x? [opensuse-factory] Workflow for containers and other images in Tumbleweed and Leap 15.1+

Hi, I'm happy to announce that the new build/test/release process for containers and other images is now in place for Tumbleweed and Leap 15.1, which is currently very much in development. As a result, images like JeOS and containers like the base container and kubic containers are now built as part of the main project (openSUSE:Factory resp. openSUSE:Leap:15.1(:Update)). This means that they go through the usual build check and review and can in the future be integrated into openQA testing in staging projects as well. If you want to create new VM images or containers based on openSUSE, you can just create them from scratch, use the OBS WebUI for kiwi descriptions or base them on one of the templates available on https://build.opensuse.org/image_templates (15.1 not listed yet). Make sure that you use only "obsrepositories:/" in kiwi files. Building containers using Dockerfile against the released Tumbleweed and Leap 15.1 containers works, but is not supported inside the main projects yet. So for now, kiwi needs to be used for building. If you want the submitted image to be published on download.opensuse.org, registry.opensuse.org or the opensuse/ namespace on hub.docker.com, please ask the release team. Technical details: - The image is submitted to openSUSE:Factory/openSUSE:Leap:15.1(:Update) and eventually accepted if it builds successfully and passed review. - The accepted build description is used to build the image in either openSUSE:Factory/images or openSUSE:Leap:15.1:Images/images. - When the project is built successfully, totest-manager releases the built image files into the subproject at :ToTest/images for images and :ToTest/containers for containers. - openQA downloads images (if configured) from :ToTest/images and containers from registry.opensuse.org and tests them. - If the snapshot passed openQA, totest-manager enables publishing of :ToTest/images and the new snapshot is sent to the mirrors. - Containers are released into openSUSE:Containers:Tumbleweed/openSUSE:Containers:Leap:15.1 where they will be pushed to hub.docker.com. Currently this is only the case for the base containers and needs some tweaking. What's missing: - OBS needs to be configured to push to hub.docker.com automatically. Currently it's done by an external script (which does not scale). Hi, in preparation of submitting the asterisk-chan-dongle package to telephony:asterisk, I'm facing a strange issue, that must be related to some policy enforcements, but I don't get the loose ends fixed at the moment. Inquiries on asterisk-dev and filing an asterisk-chan-dongle GH issue doesn't reveal any insights other than it must be an openSUSE specific issue. I've raised this issue already on asterisk-dev, but Joshua, a core developer attested, that Asterisk doesn't do anything special, that could result in this. Also chan_dongle doesn't something special permission-wise. https://github.com/wdoekes/asterisk-chan-dongle/issues/63 The system in question is openSUSE 15.0, but I seriously need to reach out for some concentrated openSUSE developer neurons here. It might be enforced by polkit via ModemManager policies, but given the fact, the devices operate properly, this sounds strange as well. Does this issue rings a bell for anybody in the audience? I realise that openSUSE doesn't use ext4 by default, but it's still a significant issue... E.g. both my desktop and laptop have ext4 partitions. A friend of mine contacted me to say: « Hi Liam, please note that there is a potential regression (root ext4 fs goes read-only) in the newest openSUSE-Tumbleweed-GNOME-Live-x86_64-Snapshot20181112-Media - as it already contains Linux kernel 4.19.1. How do I know? I was using Linux kernel 4.19.2 (on Ubuntu 18.04) on 2 laptops - and the root ex4 filesystem on both of them suddenly switched to read-only mode multiple times (never happened before upgrading to 4.19.x).
