[opensuse-factory] "Synapse wants to inhibit shortcuts"

Is anyone else receiving an annoying pop up saying "X wants to inhibit shorcuts - Allow / Deny?" every time they execute a global application shortcut? Pressing "Allow" does not prevent the next pop up from showing up again unfurtunately. This is particularly annoying because it's occuring to me on Synapse which is a global application launcher. The pop up pretty much makes the launcher redundant as it just executes the pop up each time. This wasnt there before so I'm guessing its been introduced in the latest snapshot. [opensuse-factory] Deprecation of devel:languages:python3

Hello all, as per $SUBJ all the packages that were in tumbleweed are properly migrated to python singlespec and removed from the repository. As such within a month +- we will delete the repository and keep just one devel:languages:python. Please if you have something that is of interest just move it (and if applicable migrate to singlespec) and make sure it is submitted against Tumbleweed. As a followup we will later try to reduce the failures and content in devel:languages:python where plan is to keep it all in Tumbleweed and maintained, while removing cruft that was just submitted to devel project and never forwarded for openSUSE releases. [opensuse-factory] Enabling Wayland on Gnome 3.26?

Hi all, I was under the impression that by default the Gnome login shell was using Wayland - but using the following test seems to indicate I am using X11: $ loginctl SESSION UID USER SEAT TTY 1 1001 michael seat0 tty2 c1 466 gdm seat0 tty7 2 sessions listed. $ loginctl show-session 1 -p Type Type=x11 Is this the correct way to check if I running Wayland on Tumbleweed? If it is and I am actually running X11, how do I actually enable Wayland? Hi, this is a head-up announcement for XFCE users: as discussed in the previous thread, we'll enable PulseAudio as default for XFCE on Tumbleweed. The SR's were already accepted, so the change will appear in a TW snapshot in near future. What does this mean for you? * If you already enabled PA fully on your system: Fine, no need of change, of course. As a bonus, now you can uninstall xfce4-panel-plugin-mixer and xfce4-mixer, since there is no hard dependency any longer. * If you're using still only ALSA-native (xfce4-panel-plugin-mixer & xfce4-mixer), and you're willing to switch to PulseAudio: At best, enable pulse plugin instead of mixer plugin. On the taskbar, right button context menu, Panel -> Add New Item After that, you can uninstall xfce4-panel-plugin-mixer and xfce4-mixer packages as well. * If you still don't want to switch to PA: OK, for whatever reason. There are a few ways to keep away from PA. A: Run "setup-pulseaudio --disable" once as root, and re-login. You'll keep pulseaudio and other packages on your system, but they are not really used. B: Alternatively, uninstall and lock pulseaudio & co. % zypper rm -u pulseaudio pavucontrol % zypper al pulseaudio pavucontrol If you hit any problem with this action, feel free to open a bug report. [opensuse-factory] Stepping down as maintainer/member.

Hi Community! For the wast majority of you who have no idea of who I am, I've been one of your GNOME maintainers for quite some years (at least 5 but closer to 10 I belive), but have for the most part stayed out of the day to day traffic on your favorite mailing lists. This is a notice of me stepping down as maintainer for openSUSE. I'm mainly a GNOME maintainer, but I've been known to put my grubby fingers in quite a few packages outside of GNOME. For some time now I've been doing maintenance/packaging not because I had fun doing it, but out of sense of duty/guilt. I have now reached a point where I just can't in good conscience go on, and hence this notice of goodbye. Reason for doing this publicly and not just fade silently out the back is that I hope this way I can wrestle up some new maintainers for GNOME in particular. Leaving Dominique Leuenberger (DimStar) as the sole maintainer for the ~650 or so packages we maintain is not sustainable nor healthy, as it will probably burn him out like it has me. Please note that this is not a "rage quit", but something that has been brewing for years, and had I not had such respect from and for and quite frankly genuine friendship with my co-maintainer DimStar, I'd left a long time ago. Over time I've realized that what I want out of openSUSE and what the majority of it's community (developers/packagers/users/SUSE) wants, do not align so I've come to the conclusion it's better for everyone if I step down. - This is further backed up by me for quite some time being unsubscribed from all mailing-lists, all bug-report emails disabled and likewise all email notifications from OBS, but still feel annoyed all the time, and I keep seeing changes I disagree with being pushed into openSUSE. Aka: it's not "you", it's me ;-). I wish the best for openSUSE in the future, and since I "know" the tooling (OBS/openQA) that makes this community/distro work is the best there is hands down, I'm confident this will continue to happen without me, most likely even better. Thankfully most of the packages I maintain are co-maintained, so I'll not have to make sure there are people ready to take over, but I will make a special note out of gstreamers and poppler, as these have been my "babies" for a few years - These packages are so central to the desktop experience that they deserve a dedicated person maintaining them. Please file maintainer req via obs for those. (Also everyone please queue up to become a GNOME maintainer, as we are really understaffed there). An other "project" I leave behind is the removal of webkitgtk - I had hoped to stay on until we could remove that one before leaving, but at least I was around to see webkitgtk3 get nuked (only 4 years after upstream declared it dead). Hello Someone can help me ? After the latest updates, I have noticed the following errors at shutdown: failed to unmount /home failed to unmount /var/tmp failed to unmount /tmp etc... that change randomly... Hi, within the last few weeks? i have developed usb issues on TW. After a reboot a usb key is detected and can be mounted, thereafter USB is unusable. lsusb shows no external devices (tried with seveal). some possibly relevant errors from journald include: xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: Cannot set link state. usb 2-1: USB disconnect, device number 2 xHCI host controller not responding, assume dead xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: HC died; cleaning up i considered unloading and then reloading the usb storage module but its in use: rmmod: ERROR: Module usb_storage is in use by: uas thanks for any workarounds for this, the current situation is unworkable Nicholas -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe(a)opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner(a)opensuse.org

Hi, while we're at XFCE update: another topic I had in my mind since the last year is to enable PulseAudio as default for XFCE. I know many people are still using ALSA directly, but for the new system, deploying PA would be (supposedly) less pain for a wider range of users. Looking at the current setup, we have the following: - In patterns-xfce4, the spec contains: %package xfce_basis .... Requires: xfce4-mixer Requires: xfce4-notifyd - In xfce4-branding-openSUSE, the spec contains: %package -n xfce4-panel-branding-openSUSE .... Recommends: xfce4-mixer Recommends: xfce4-panel-plugin-mixer Now the questions are: - Do we still need Requires in patterns-xfce4? - Just replacing xfce4-mixer with pavucontrol and xfce4-panel-plugin-mixer with xfce4-panel-plugin-pulseaudio works? This should drag pulseaudio package. alsa-plugins-pulse should be also included by recommends. - What to do with users who currently don't install pulseaudio yet? When pulseaudio package is installed, PA is started at the next session via desktop autostart. They're already shipping Leap and Tumbleweed devices, some of their team run openSUSE distributions themselves, but there are some obvious areas where the Projects advice and guidance could help smooth a few rough edges for them and their customers They're keen to contribute back to the distribution, they seem very passionate to ensure the pre-loaded distros they are using shine on their own merits, and don't diverge in ways that might make us uncomfortable. So the Board was discussing how best to get them started in the Project. Gertjan was replying to my opinion of how we should approach this. If you see Station X or Board members asking questions around the project or asking about specific hardware enablement stuff from package maintainers, now you know why ;) In addition and in a similar vein, we've been working in a similar way with Tuxedo Computers already (http://tuxedocomputers.com) and while they aren't quite shipping Leap on their hardware yet I was showing off a prototype of the hardware at SUSEcon ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6iZ5h1LAS0 ) and the laptop is actually on it's way to Beijing and then Tokyo for openSUSE Asia..
