[opensuse-factory] Use of _service file

Hi, _service file is a conveniant way to manage sources for a package automatically: Change the version number in the spec file, and it gets downloaded automatically. Unfortunately this is not allowed in many devel-repos or in Factory. That means additionally I have to provide the source-tarball OR run someting like osc service localrun download_files This requires the use of osc, is one additional step, and is not possible from the Web-Frontend for OBS. This overcompensates the advantages of the _service file by far. So why are projects not accepting the automatic download? Bandwidth may be one reason. but may be eliminated by having _service just downloading changed versions. So what needs to happen that automatich downloads via service are enabled in Factory or devel-projects? The long awaited new release of ModemManager version 1.6.0 will enter into Factory soon. https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/419370 I'm making here a copy of the changelog, the mostly noticeable is the new "plugins" architecture, which will handle more easily new chips. For myself it support my internal wwan dell sierra branded device (since a few month witout main troubles, even if not used everydays). I hope it will help lot of you to get their chip supported or with better support. I would like to have a certain amount of feedback to be sure it resolve a number of case, and give access to wwan to unsuported chipset compared to 1.4 I would really like to have it also included in Leap 42.2 so our end users can benefit of those new supported hardware, and Leap team agree that there's more benefits than risks. Hi guys! I'm writing this e-mail to inform you that in the following days I will update julia package in Tumbleweed to 0.5.0~rc2. Yeah, it is the release candidate of 0.5 version. I decided to do this for two reasons: 1) I have been using rc1 for one week without a single issue. Hence, I consider it stable enough. 2) It will help to catch the final bugs towards the 0.5 release. However, notice that it is not expected any major bug in the core language, so don't be afraid :) Nevertheless, as any major update, it is expected that some external packages can become incompatible. In this case, you might want to check whether or not your external packages are already compatible with julia 0.5 and, if not, just mask julia update until upstream fix the package. Notice that PyPlot (2.2.1) and PyCall (1.7.0) are already compatible with julia 0.5. If you have any question, please, send me an e-mail. This snapshot alone would have given enough reason for a post though. But let me catch up on that, including the snapshots of this week (0803, 0805, 0806, 0808, 0810 and 0811). Last week, there was only one snapshot as we were fighting issues with two systems which are crucial to openSUSE Tumbleweed: openSUSE Build Service and openQA. Both had some unrelated failures and both teams managing them were more than helpful in getting to the bottom of the issues – Thank you guys! As usual, 3rd party drivers have proven to be a source for frustration * libinput 1.4.0 (the version is ‘done’ as per upstream's blog. To be read with a grain of salt) * GIMP 2.8.18 * GNOME Maps 3.20.2 – As MapQuest changed their ToS, a new tile provided needed to be added * LXDM was dropped: users are migrated to lightdm * Plasma 5.7.2 Quite a list – and I did not mention all packages, as usual. You can find more details in the various changelog files / snapshot announcement mails. So, with so many things provided: are we done? Of course not: Tumbleweed is rolling – and nothing is taking it the wind out of the sails. In short FreeBSD users download source code archives from public FTP/HTTP oder HTTPS servers automatically with Ports tools like a simple "make" in /usr/ports or with advanced tools like Portsnap. After download tools like Portsnap or Make verify the downloaded source archive against locally stored checksums and sizes in the Ports tree. But I wonder how we check the integrity of source code archives in the openSUSE Build service? I never saw any checksums or PGP signatures in build service projects. Of course one problem is, that it's not always easy to find reliable checksums or signatures for any upstream project. Hi, I'm debugging why my processes do not terminate gracefully at shutdown and found that openSUSE's systemd setup seems to send SIGHUP to user's processes. This is the output of my test program while "shutdown -h" 2016-08-09 21:05:00.556999 catched SIGNAL 1 (SIGHUP) 2016-08-09 21:05:00.557086 catched SIGNAL 15 (SIGTERM) 2016-08-09 21:05:00.557572 catched SIGNAL 1 (SIGHUP) On other sysvinit systems I get only SIGTERM _one_ time before it would send the final SIGKILL. Problem: Many user space programs don't handle SIGHUP. Thus they are using the default sig handler and terminate immediately without any cleanup. What is the reason why SIGHUP is sent? Hi, Some time ago (a month or so), the auto update brought over a recommended update for "aws-cli, botocore". This update keeps failing; when run from the command line, I get: zypper up aws-cli Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... Resolving package dependencies... Problem: nothing provides python-s3transfer >= 0.0.1 needed by aws-cli-1.10.38-6.1.noarch Solution 1: do not install aws-cli-1.10.38-6.1.noarch Solution 2: break aws-cli-1.10.38-6.1.noarch by ignoring some of its dependencies Is this something I should report as a bug, and is there a temporary alternative where python-s3transfer can be obtained? Greetings. I know, that TW is rolling distro, but I have to use kernel 4.6 for a while. Sadly I updated virtualbox from last snapshot, and, as I see - repos has version for kernel 4.7 only, and I don't use btrfs (or any other snapshots). While I can boot 4.6, there's no multiversion modules for vbox. Maybe there is any magic solution to find old version? [opensuse-factory] f-c-c submitter will be involved in Leap 42.2 development again

Hi list, The Factory-Candidates-Check[1] project is up again and it is building against Leap:42.2 now, I'll run f-c-c submitter soon, the idea is the same like last time[2]. The project/package maintainer please review the submit request, if you don't like your package in the Leap 42.2 please decline the request and even leave the comment on the request, so I'll add that package to the skip list; since f-c-c submitter will check the devel project too, thus the skip list is also works against devel project, please let me know I should skip the packages from an specific devel project. Short summary: - f-c-c submitter only submit the packages automatically from Factory what *were build succeeded against Leap 42.2 and does not in the Leap 42.2 yet*. - please accept the request if you'd like have this package in Leap 42.2. - decline the request if you don't like to see it in the Leap 42.2, also the package will add to the skip list if the request was declined. - let me know if you want to add a package or devel project to the skip list. - this DOES NOT mean you CAN NOT submit package from Factory to Leap:42.2 manually, still you can. Hi, I downloaded openSUSE 42.2alfa3 ISO, write it with „Live USB GUI“ v0.3.1 in openSUSE 13.2. I rebooted computer from USB-key, but finally I get blue Linuxrc window with message "Please make sure your installation medium is available" and dialog to choose URL for medium.
