I am running the same .18 version of Virtualbox as the host for a Tumbleweed guest. This guest was installed "fresh" from the TW .iso about 3 weeks ago as a new guest. I have been updating it from the command line with zypper up. This week, I removed the virtualbox-guest-x11 (5.0.17) package from the guest and am able to finally see Plymouth and then get to KDE desktop. (Yay!) I removed the package based on this report: https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=976512 I have not had time this week to determine if my issue is the same or different from this bug report. I have had no graphical desktop environment since early March when kernel 4.5 was introduced. I noticed both plymouthd and a sddm were dumping core on startup. I am a long-time openSUSE user but am new to this list and bugzilla. I am open to anyone's advice on what I could upload and where to help solve this. After the last kernel update, my wireless connection is very unreliable because the iwlwifi driver is being reloaded due to an error. The connection was just about unsuable. [opensuse-factory] openSUSE Tumbleweed – Review of the Weeks 2016/16

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers, Tumbleweed seems to have found its rhythm at around 4 snapshots per week. I will cover the snapshots 0414, 0415, 0416 and 0417. After that, it took unfortunately a bit of effort to get more stagings ready. This then lead now to the fact that the next snapshot (0422) will be rather large. I will mention more about this further down. What were the 4 last snapshots about: * GNOME 3.20.1 * Samba 4.4.2 (ensure to update using zypper dup!) * Many other bugfixes and updates The next snapshot (20160422) will be rather large and quite some packages will have new release numbers. Glibc 2.23 finally found its way through staging, which was the perfect time to change OBS to do a full rebuild of the distribution, ensuring all packages are again built against each other. Further, we disabled the support script that “removed the .desktop file translations in favor of gettext based language overlays”. Even though this was an interesting feature, it lead to quite some issues in the past with the fast pace of Tumbleweed. Sometimes upstream shipped a .desktop file with correct translations, but we stripped those ‘in favor of our own’ (which often were based on older strings). No longer doing this means eliminating all kind of such issues. But it was another reason for full package rebuilds. In an attempt to minimize how often we trigger such large updates, we scheduled this intentionally together with the glibc update. There are still a couple of things prepared in staging, most notably: * Qt 5.6 – The YaST issue / installer not having keyboard focus is still present * Linux Kernel 4.5.2 * KDE Applications 16.04.0 * GStreamer 1.8.0 Let’s all work on all those great additions and many more. [opensuse-factory] new kernel install takes very long

With the warning that next update will be really big I have in the meantime updated Packman and the kernel from the kernel stable. Having had a problem with a lengthy kernel update I measured the time it takes for the finishing of the kernel install. After 47 minutes it suddenly showed the halfway results and after a total of 65 minutes it showed that the installation was finished. Where could I start looking why it takes more than an hour for the installation? [opensuse-factory] Tumbleweed still does not light up in Virtualbox 5.0.18

Hey fellow Tumbleweed users. Earlier in the month I read that Virtualbox 5.0.18 will properly support Linux kernel 4.5. Now that I have upgraded to 5.0.18 and trying to boot a freshly installed 0417 tumbleweed, it still does not light up the display, same thing happens as previously on Virtualbox 5.0.16. Any clue how to get Tumbleweed display working again? Regards, Howard

[opensuse-factory] Docker 1.11 Update

Hi all, In the recent Docker 1.11 update, several components of the Docker daemon were split into different parts. The container runtime (runC) and the daemon that manages runC runners (containerd) are separated from the Docker daemon completely. To this end, I've packaged all three components separately -- which means we have to add two packages. runC is the same codebase Docker was using previously, it's just being used in a different form now (a binary rather than actually hooking into the exported functions of libcontainer -- the brains of runC). I'm one of the maintainers of this project and am sure that our users will probably want to use this package by itself (we're working on some killer features in runC that might). runC is backed by the Open Container Initiative (and thus by the Linux Foundation), and is Docker's contribution to the community -- a reference implementation of an OCI runtime. containerd is provided by Docker Inc to be the a reference daemon to spawn OCI containers. It has its own API which Docker uses to communicate with it. This has been packaged as a separate systemd service, as users may want to use this by itself. It is designed to be agnostic to things Docker cares about (building container images, reproducibilty, etc). It's a low-level daemon to control runC. [opensuse-factory] Cinnamon wait for manual closing Agent-SSH before shutdown

Hello, I'm using Tumbleweed 20160417 64 bit and Cinnamon 2.8.8 and I notice that every time I start the shutdown process from the Main Menu, I receive a warning about Agent-SSH still running so I need to click on "Stop whatsoever" button (translate from "Arresta Comunque" Italian translation). Wonder if is there a way to close the Agent-SSH silently at shutdown when using Cinnamon DE. Thanks. Hello, I'm going to submit a new package for Factory: libtommath. It's an open source portable number theoretic multiple-precision integer library written entirely in C. The primary reason why I would like to see it in Factory is that Firebird 3.0 (released this week) uses this library and while it provides its own embedded copy, I believe using systemwide shared libraries should be preferred. Project home page is http://libtom.net/ and sources are available on GitHub in https://github.com/libtom/libtommath The library is provided under WTFPL license so that it can by freely used for any purpose. The libtommath package has been available in OBS in devel:libraries:c_c++ project since 2010 (under name libtommath0, renamed today).
