Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers, Time is flying, another week is over and Tumbleweed has been on the roll this week. We had a staggernig 6 snapshots since my last review and the next one is already in openQA. In this review, I will cover the snapshots 0225, 0226, 0228, 0229, 0301 and 0302. The pace for new snapshots went up, but the ‘average’ throughput is about the same. More frequent snapshots means smaller change-sets at the time, which is not a bad thing. [opensuse-factory] gnome-shell crashed after selecting vpn

Hi ! I am running Tumbleweed/Gnome on company laptop (SUSE) and use openvpn for remote access to company network. Since recent update, gnome-shell crashes when trying to start vpn connection. Looks actually very similar to https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=760924 I spotted in journalctl : NetworkManager[1745]: <error> [1457080318.887761] [vpn-manager/nm-vpn-connection.c:1977] get_secrets_cb(): Failed to request VPN secrets #3: (4) No agents were available for this request. NetworkManager[1745]: <warn> error disconnecting VPN: Could not process the request because no VPN connection was active. systemd-coredump[5857]: Process 5372 (gnome-shell) of user 1000 dumped core. I found a workaround for archwiki which consists in a downgrade of libsecrets (could not figure how to get it down with openSUSE Build Service) ``` If anyone needs a temporary solution: # sudo pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/libsecret-0.18.3-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz everything is working fine after downgrading this (and restarting services). ``` I see that gnome-shell got corrected in 20160222: Add gnome-shell-correctly-ident-VPN-secret-req.patch: NetworkAgent: correctly identify the VPN secret requests. (bgo#760999). But It did not fix my issue with VPN (looks related, not sure if it is the needed fix) Anyone with the same issue ? Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers, Again I cover two weeks, with the 2nd one being more of troubles than releases. The snapshots covered this week are 0205, 0207, 0208, 0209 (week 6) and 0212 (week 7). I’ll try to explain at the end what was holding us back in week 7. Noteworthy updates as part of the last snapshots: * AppStream-glib update. Most notably: the icons are no longer duplicated across multiple repositories metadata * GCC 5.3.1 is now the default compiler * Mozilla Firefox 44 * cmake 3.4.3 – most importantly, ‘modules’ no longer get a soname during linking. Some packages might fail rpmlint now in case the shared library packaging policy was not applied * GStreamer 1.6.3 – Many bugfixes * Plasma 5.5.4 – you know you want it! What is brewing in the next snapshot (0217+) * Firewalld – available for testers. A future version should bring migration assistance from SUSEFirewall2 to firewalld * plymouth gained a new plugin to show simple texts (used to indicate which partition to unlock) I would like to introduce a new section, mentioning ‘bugs I feel are noteworthy’. The list is incomplete and might not cover the bug YOU had seen, and it shall not be a complete list of new bugs reported. * Tumbleweed users using LUKS encrypted devices reported plymouth related issues. Current workaround identified is to disable plymouth at boot time with “plymouth.enable=0″ on kernel command line. boo#966255 * systemd 228 introduced cgroup Task accounting to limit fork bombs and the like. it seems a user logging in on the terminal is more limited than a GUI user, which could result in the system running out of resources to fork more tasks. boo#966878 And, last but not least, as promised, a word about why there have been no new snapshots released since 0209 (released on Feb 12): openSUSE Tumbleweed relies heavily on openQA and the test results we receive from the automated tests. For not yet clear reasons, the most powerful worker we have (had) on openQA.opensuse.org decided to quit its job (it did not mention the wish to find a new career path). This left openQA running with only 2 workers left instead of the usual 10. The remaining work force is largely overloaded and can’t cope with the workload. There were only two options left for us: release without testing or hold back the snapshots. As evidence shows, we opted to hold back the snapshots. Various solutions are currently evaluated to get new worker power on openQA, which includes borrowing machines from other SUSE owned instances. Hi, I'm wondering about the macros.systemd.upstream file in the systemd sources. In the specfile it is added as source: Source10: macros.systemd.upstream and compared against the package in the systemd sources from upstream: diff -au "%{S:10}" src/core/macros.systemd.in is this just for a detection wheter the upstream macros have changed or is there any other usage of it? [opensuse-factory] Why did GwenView become the default file manager on my computer?

I notice the issue yesterday when mounting a USB hard-disk with the KDE panel's removable drive icon, and Gwenview launched instead of Dolphin. I have went into KDE settings to switch the default file manager to dolphin to no avail. Restarting again shows that Gwenview is once again selected as the default file manager. How do I force the system into using Dolphin as the default file manager again?

Hello fellow Tumbleweed users. If you are running OpenLDAP service on Tumbleweed, please take note of several important changes made in the recent package upgrades, that may require manual changes made to OpenLDAP configuration before the server can be brought online again. Please read the changelog thoroughly: https://build.opensuse.org/package/view_file/network:ldap/openldap2/openlda… While previously all database backend modules were built into the daemon executable (hence automatically loaded), now they require to be loaded on-demand. Depending on your choice of LDAP configuration style, you may need to take the following action: - If you use slapd.conf, please add directive "modulepath" and "moduleload" to the file, and specify all database engine modules used by your OpenLDAP setup. The default configuration contains an example for your reference: https://build.opensuse.org/package/view_file/network:ldap/openldap2/slapd.c… - If you use Online Configuration (cn=config), the same directives must be added to the configuration, however there are many ways to do this, and in general the procedure is more complicated. One way to accomplish it is: * Shut down OpenLDAP server. * Temporarily remove olcDatabase from cn=config by moving its entries out of /etc/openldap/slapd.d/cn=config * Start OpenLDAP server. * Use normal mechanism (ldapmodify/ldapadd) to add modulepath and moduleload directive. By making the upgrade, I overlooked Yast Authentication Server module and forgot to adept it to the changes, which means the module cannot be used to create new LDAP server instance - although it should still be able to manage an existing instance. The issue is on top of my priority list and will be addressed soon. And my apologise for the inconvenience. Hi. I am trying to get Ardour package to the Factory. Ardour is software hard-disk-recorder and digital-audio-workstation. I have a question about the modified branding...During startup the plymouth theme is much more black then before. The blue-ish stripes spreads only about 50% of the screen width. About 25% left and right are simply black. Is this by intention? Should I open a bug and attach a pic of the screen? best regards, Robby.
