[opensuse-factory] nodejs renamed to nodejs6 on Tumbleweed

Hi everyone, With the update to Node.js 6.9.2, users will need to install the nodejs6 package to receive this update as the nodejs package has been removed. This is to keep in line with the naming scheme for Leap, as well as the Web & Scripting Module in SLE. Node.js 7.x has not been submitted to Factory yet as an odd bug remains[1] that arguably should not be present in a post-testing release. [opensuse-factory] Improving IO with Sata HDD

Dears Tumbleweed users, gurus and hackers, I would like to get some suggestions by more skilled people in order to improve my low IO disk performance because sometimes by using iotop I can see over 99% of disk activity especially when running VirtualBox and packagekit is updating the system. HDD activity led is always on during high IO activity and system sometimes get unresponsive or in the better case very very slow. I tried to change one ext4 parameter from [cfq] to [noop] without any noticeable improvements. sudo echo noop > /sys/block/sda/queue/scheduler Would like to know if I can try some other tuning. My HDD is an ATA 465,8G SAMSUNG HM501II ext4 Many thanks and regards! In looking at the latest version of Vbox, they mention that all of the rpm based distros can use dkms to keep their Vbox in sync with whatever kernel is installed -- *except*, opensuse, which doesn't have dkms. [opensuse-factory] sane-backends / hplip: enable more backends by default?

Hi, I was just wondering why xsane on Tumbleweed detected no devices although I had a HPLIP scanner configured. The reason is simply that all backends are commented out in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf by default. Together with sane-backends- autoconfig, that may work well with USB scanners, but not with network scanners like mine. It's also in stark contrast with Fedora, where only 16 out of 88 sane backends are commented out in the shipped dll.conf (xsane startup "scanning for devices" takes about 5s in that configuration on my laptop, compared to roughly 2s when only the hplip/hpaio backend is enabled). I understand that users are supposed to run "yast2 scanner" to enable their scanner HW. That works, but I wouldn't call it a smooth user experience for my network scanner (none of the many HP scanners the tool offered matched mine even remotely - I knew it was fine to choose just any "hpaio" device, but would every user have known that with confidence)? AFAICS, the completed "yast2 scanner" run had no effect other than uncommenting "hpaio" in dll.conf. Here comes the question: Couldn't we improve the openSUSE user experience by enabling more sane-backends by default? Hi, I just noticed there is a getty process being restarted permanently: T520 systemd[1]: getty(a)getty.service: Service has no hold-off time, scheduling restart. T520 systemd[1]: Stopped Getty on getty. T520 systemd[1]: Started Getty on getty. T520 agetty[21783]: /dev/getty: cannot open as standard input: No such file or directory I just was aware of getty to pick up incoming faxes - and for sure no fax server is installed on the laptop. Can anyone explain what the getty process is good for, and whether it can be disabled? The current up process I'm looking at was last performed 30 days ago, and consists of removal of Konsole and Marble. [opensuse-factory] VirtualBox build with X server 1.19.0

Dominique, I now have a patch for VB that builds with X server 1.19.0. Unfortunately, it breaks the build with v. 1.18.4. I do not know how to conditionally include a patch depending on the version of a required package, nor do I know how to pass that information to the build as an exported symbol. Accordingly, I have placed a requirement on the BuildRequires statement for xorg-x11-server. When I submit that change, the build will be blocked for everything but Project openSUSE:Factory:Staging:I:DVD, which started this whole mess. Is submitting an update that will block with v 1.18.4 and build for 1.19.0 the correct thing to do? Is there a better option?
