[opensuse-factory] acpid requires systemd?

Can this be true? If so, why? Zypper won't let me upgrade acpid without breakage unless systemd is installed too. [opensuse-factory] receiving files via bluetooth fails

Some months ago it was possible to receive files via bluetooth with TW. But since some weeks that fails for me. Then I created it with mkdir -m07777, and that just gives the EPERM error as before. strace shows that it gets some "forbidden" from dbus. Is receiving files working for anyone else? Also the rfkill thing does not work reliable. NetworkManager finds the device according to syslog, but the GNOME bluetooth thing finds nothing. I'd consider adding it as an update, too, to 42.1 and SP1, at least in aux repositories - preferably to updates :-). I've spoken with the author of pam_faillock and I believe it to be superior to pam_tally2, particularly concerning handling of screensaver handling. pam_faillock is part of the recommended RHEL configuration for secured computers and holding out for pam_tally2 also presents a nasty non-uniformity for nearly the same functionality (although, weaker). I've asked the author, Tomas Mraz, to make the patch available standalone - which he has provided here: http://people.redhat.com/tmraz/pam_faillock/ I would've have submitted my branch against factory pam incorporating the patch - but unfortunately I seem to be having some automake/libtool issues in the build that I cannot figure out - so I'm going to have to leave that effort to someone who knows those build tools better than I. Hi *, I'm still trying to switch somehow automatically between the nvidia and the nouveau driver, but I ran into a quite annoying problem on both openSuSE Leap 42.2 (even with the latest kernel from the kernel stable repository) and also with the latest Tumbleweed snapshot. I don't have problems, running the nouveau driver if I don't have an xorg.conf.d structure at all, but even with a very tiny structure the X server won't start anymore, and I can't figure out, what I might be missing here. There are three scenarios: 1. No xorg.conf.d structure at all -> nouveau gets loaded, X is starting. Same behaviour with Leap 42.2 ad with Tumbleweed. 2. Tiny xorg.conf.d structure as shown below with a driver entry for nouveau, i.e. Driver "nouveau" -> X server is not starting with an entry "Unknown chipset: NV117" at the end of Xorg.0.log. Same behaviour with Leap 42.2 ad with Tumbleweed. 3. Tiny xorg.conf.d structure as shown below without a driver entry for nouveau -> X server is starting and one can logon via sddm, but a few program starts later, the nouveau driver is crashing with errors like "nouveau 0000:01:00.0: fifo: PBDMA0: 00040000 [PBENTRY] ch 15 [007e351000 X[1413]] subc 0 mthd 0000 data 00000000". [opensuse-factory] Missing icons in Cantata (MPD Client)

Hi, I've got a bug in Cantata (available from the KDE:Extra repository) since the beginning of october and I can't find where it comes from : some icons are missing. I opened a bug in bugzilla, but it was closed as I related it to the openSUSE.org product. The person who closed it said it was maybe "Tumbleweed specific" or related to Qt : https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1007462 I also opened a bug in the git repository of the project, but it appeared the developer tried to compile the software with Qt 5.7 and it worked well (he uses Ubuntu). There are screenshots in the bug discussion, so you can see exactly what the problem is: https://github.com/CDrummond/cantata/issues/903 So my question is : would some of you be kind enough to install Cantata from OBS and just tell me if all icons are displayed correctly, so I can know if it's Tumbleweed related or very specific to me? [opensuse-factory] pidgin plays no sound anymore

Since a few days (perhaps weeks?) pidgin does not seem to play sounds anymore when a new message arrives. I'm sure it used to do that. According to the settings sounds are enabled. If I click on "Preview.." for a given event there is some pulseaudio activity going on according to strace. But in the end nothing is heard. The control-center audio thing does play sound ("front left", "front right"), so I think parts of the sound system do work properly. Any idea why pidgin is silent? [opensuse-factory] Leap 42.2 - plasmashell freezing

Hi *, on one of my machines (Lenovo T420 notebook) I have a problem with plasmashell freezing often when a notification is shown. The notification frame shows up, but no content and then the complete desktop freezes. Killing and restarting plasmashell cures the problem for a short time - til one of the the next notifications wants to display something. It doesn't happen for all notifications, though. Using tools like notify-send the problem can not be reproduced, but notifications stemming from plasma-nm and plasma-workspace itself (like the one for a removed plasmoid) always lead to the freeze. The system originally was openSuSE Leap 42.2, but because of the problem I upgraded step by step to - the latest kernel from the kernel stable repo, - the latest X server plus everyting from the X11:Xorg repo - and the latest plasma workspace including everything from the KDE:Framework5 repo. The problem remained unchanged, though. A few more facts: - The X server is xf86-video-intel. - Switching off the compositor doesn't help either. - Everything worked with Leap 42.1 - No according entry in the journal or .xsession-errors* can be found. - And a curiosity: After removing .config/plasmarc and restarting plasmashell the problem vanishes for a few hours or even a day, before it comes back. - Logging off or restarting the machine doesn't help in case the problems exists at that time. In found a few bug reports for plasma freezes, but none of them seems to fit exactly. Is this a known problem? Can I debug it and if so, how? TIA. Bye. [opensuse-factory] [RFH] Anyone wiling to give systemd v232 a try ?

Hey, Newest version of systemd v232 has been integrated and is mostly ready to land in Factory. It can be found here: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:fbui:systemd:next:openSUSE-Fac… We already gave it some testing internally and it also ran over the weekend on my own laptop (which is still alive): so far, so good :) However my setup is quite boring without any fancy configs (LVM, DM, encryption, ...). So in case some of you want to give it a shot, you're more than welcome. However please note that it's still "experimental" material (or rather call it a release candidate, which is probably a more appropriate wording) so make sure to test it on a testing/spare system only... A couple things that might be worth to be noted: - Make sure to use the latest version of dracut first. It should include the following change: * Tue Nov 08 2016 daniel(a)molkentin.de - systemd-initrd: Add initrd-root-device.target. Cherry-pick to get systemd v230 into factory (bsc1009089) * add 0451-systemd-initrd-add-initrd-root-device.target.patch - For those who rely on wicked: systemd is now making sure that local users are logged out before the network is shut down when the system goes down (commit 8c856804780681e). The consequence of this is that user can log in only after the network.target is activated. But for some reasons, wicked takes a while to do so (~15 secs), so you'll see a long delay before being able to log in. For now I don't know why wicked takes so long time, maybe that was already reported or discussed in the past... - The service that flushes the journal during boot looks to be stucked when the debug logs are enabled. My system does not work as expected. Have looked into hardware problems and memory, but did not find anything up to now Did a new install and although in the begin it worked quit well I had some system freezes. Started to look into journalctl and found quit a lot failed results. e.g. failed to start Flush Journal to Persistent Storage. No idea what that means but it does not sound good. Failed to start login service and cups scheduler where some others. I have copied some pieces of the end of the journalctl. What is wrong with computer or its software. [opensuse-factory] zypper dup from 42.1 to 42.2 pulls Mesa on headless VM

Hi, I have a headless virtual machine (just apache running and i connect via ssh) with Leap 42.1. Thus no Mesa or X installed. This maschine I wanted to upgrade to Leap 42.2. So, I replaced the 42.1 repos with the repos for 42.2. However, a "zypper dup --no-recommends" tries to pull Mesa with quite some other graphic related libX* and libdrm* packages. I dug around a bit and IMHO python-gobject has now a dependency on all the graphic stuff. On the other hand snapper-zypp-plugin needs python-gobject. At the opensuse mailinglist I was told two things. Firstly, maybe a change in libcairo might be the reason for an indirect requirement on Mesa. Secondly, the people on opensuse-factory might be able to help. Now my question: How to upgrade from 42.1 to 42.2 without installing Mesa but keep snapper? Hi, since a few days calibre does no longer work here on my Tumblewee machine. Problem: nothing provides containerd = 0.2.4+git0366d7e needed by docker-1.12.3-1.2.X86_64 Solution 1: do not install docker-1.12.3-1.2.X86_64 Solution 2: break docker-1.12.3-1.2.X86_64 by ignoring some of its depencies Choose from above solutions by number or cancel [1/2/c] (c): "zypper se -s containerd" shows a version 0.2.4+gitr565_0366d7e-1.1 So is it just a naming problem in versioning? Or is something missing? (I already had docker installed a while ago and installation was fine) (all version are from standard repo!) Hi, everyone! KFind (https://www.kde.org/applications/utilities/kfind/) is not part of openSUSE's KDE default installation. So, I manually installed it using # zypper in kfind Right now, I'm using openSUSE Leap 42.2 RC 2 with Plasma 5.8.2. Sometimes I use KFind, especially when I want to discover where KDE stores its settings. (Here goes a tip in case someone needs it someday) I change a setting (e.g. using System Settings), apply it, then I use KFind to look for files in my home folder, including hidden ones, changed within the last minute. It always finds a text file containing that setting I just changed. Dolphin's Ctrl + F does not have that granularity of search options. I realized KFind does not have an icon for it in the Application Menu. I need to use KRunner (Alt + F2) to launch it. Prior versions of KDE had an icon for KFind. Is that intentional? Or there should be an icon for KFind in Application Menu? Moreover, I've seen Stephan Kulow is one of the KFind maintainers. Are coolo _at_ kde.org and coolo _at_ suse.de the same person? If yes, congratulations, man, for the good work! [opensuse-factory] XFCE: update or not?

Hi all unfortunately, since Guido quit his excellent job of maintaining XFCE for openSUSE, the XFCE packages have been in a bit of a state of limbo. Various people are updating their pet panel plugins and Takashi is mostly the one coordinationg the efforts by accepting the submitrequests to X11:xfce. Overall, XFCE on openSUSE is working well (for me, at least :-), but we surely are a bit off from the latest and greatest. As far as I can tell, work in XFCE upstream has been going on to port all the important stuff to GTK3, at least that's the common theme in new minor releases numberted 4.13.x for core parts or most of the latest minor release bumps in varios applets and panel plugins. Now yesterday I decided to check what would be needed to update the core packages to the latest and greatest. The result is in project home:seife:xfce, and at least on a test VM of mine things are working well, so if someone likes to test this, be my guest :-) There will be some graphical stuff to fix, mostly due to differences in GTK2 and GTK3 theming I guess, but that is somehting I know nothing about (and to be honest, I do not care about appearance at all). Some core components (Thunar, xfwm4, xfce4-panel, xfce4-session, xfdesktop) still use gtk2, so this will not get rid of this version for now. So does anyone have strong opinions on keeping the old GTK2 version? If not, I'd submit the update to X11:xfce and later to factory. Note that even now already some of the panel plugins, are using gtk3, and the panel is at least requiring it on a package level, so you'll most likely need to have it installed already anyway. Due to xfce4-terminal and nm-applet being already ported to GTK3, you also probably have it in memory already. Hi All, Before "We" (SUSE) branch SLE-13 from openSUSE Factory/Tumbleweed, one thing we would like to do a general clean up of patterns so i'm asking for suggestions of things you'd like to see changed or think can be improved. This is one of the few times where you get to suggest something and someone else (me) will quite possibly do something about it. There is obvious things to do such as removing packages that are no longer in the repos, there is also a question of whether we keep patterns like "Miscellaneous Server" and "Voice over IP Clients" that you probably wouldn't install directly but make some packages easier to find should be kept. Before doing any other big or invasive changes i'll of course discuss them here first. Also if someone would like to set up a task on progress.opensuse.org to track it that would be helpful otherwise ill track the items internally. here's some ref http://libremusicproduction.com/tutorials/setting-and-using-terratec-dmx-6f… intermitently whenever I plug this external sound card into a USB port on this laptop I get a core-dump (if that's what it's called): http://forum.audacityteam.org/download/file.php?id=16519 this happens mostlty withe Tumbleweed where I noticed that the kernel module is larger than with oss-13.2 Since I depend on using this card with this laptop I'd like to fix the problem.
