[opensuse-factory] Leap Freeze Point

Hi all, this story was published yesterday - https://news.opensuse.org/2015/08/05/the-weekly-review-tumbleweed-and-leap/… A few takeaway items you might all be interested in regarding Leap. 61 upgraded packages were in the last snapshot and about a handful were fixes made for Leap. The roadmap for Leap will likely be published next week. It looks like the release of Leap will be on Nov. 4 at 14:00 UTC, but some other things need to happen before we confirm Nov. 4 officially as the release date. An important date that can be mentioned about Leap right now is Sept. 20. This is the tentatively the freeze point for items to be included in the Leap Beta. Artwork for Leap like Grub, Plymouth or other items can be submitted through github by cloning the Leap-42.1 branch in openSUSE branding and submit a pull request to @sysrich. A branch was also started for Tumbleweed, so anyone wanting to advance the visual appearance of both openSUSE distributions is welcome (links in the article). hi I understand that "snapperd" is only for btrfs but its launched daily and hourly by cron even though i don't use btrfs. If this a failure of the installation process that adds these cron jobs? They're untested, they're not guaranteed to work, don't blame Tumbleweed when an additional repo has a dependency problem. There are no "/var/log/Xorg.*" files, so I don't know how to find out what the problem is, unless they are on some other place. [opensuse-factory] Removing old packages from Tumbleweed

I only use "zypper up" to update Tumbleweed, because I also have other repositories like Education and KDE:Extra and obviously Packman. A "zypper dup" would install packages from the "dupped" repository, where I want to keep them from the other repositories. The drawback is apparently that obsolete packages are not removed. So I found a lot of packages using "zypper se -is" having (System Packages) as their origin, which means they are no longer available in a repository. A lot of these packages have numbers in their names which are increased in packages with the same name and are also installed, so these can be removed. I use "zypper rm -u" to remove them. Other packages had versions that were lower than the installed packages, so I downgraded these packages. Currently I do not have any package with an indication (System Packages). After the last update from my Tumblewood system Chromium does not load. Updated TW on this machine yesterday and thought the Plasma disasters had gone. However, this morning the KDE Launcher menu produced a kaleidoscope of colour and then froze. Flicking between windows and/or desktops using the keyboard would eventually free it but it would never again show the menu. [opensuse-factory] Recovering after a BTRFS failure with Snapper

Hi, I've managed to hose my BTRFS root partition pretty badly, but in the end I was able to repair it and to boot from a snapper snapshot. Now the problem is that I can't rollback using snapper. The grub menu entry instructs me to use 'snapper rollback 301', where 301 is the id of the snapper snapshot. When I try to do that after booting it complains that Creating read-only snaphshot of current system. IO Error. Running snapper list shows that I have a no snapshots created ( only 'current' one is available ) and indeed /.snapshots is empty. How can I rollback to this state? Various application such as media players (vlc, amarok, etc) are permanently paused (ie they do not unpause after notification sound completes) when various chat/notifications are triggered (steam, skype, etc) which is terrible default behavior. A friend who has recently been trying out tumbleweed ran into the problems so I dug into it and found out it can easily be fixed by disabling module-role-cork. My guess is this can be better configured to not make this happen while keeping the intent of module-role-cork and/or other applications are misusing something to trigger it, but either way the end result is terrible. I am not sure of any usefulness it provides as I have not missed anything since disabling. There are a fair amount of discussions on various forums out the symptoms so it seems a fair number of people run into the unwanted effects. Simply switch to activities was a good advice !!! Everthing is moved now to 4 activities in folderview mode and is identical to my previous virtualdesktop setup. I only mis te eyecandy (the cube animation). The only terrible thing is the widget "activity bar". Its ugly and consumes one third of my taskbar (4 activities), it has a reaction time of about 0.5 sec after multiple clicks. This bad. I have a hardware KVM switch that I use to switch between 6 computers. On my openSUSE Tumbleweed system running KDE when I switch away from the Tumbleweed system to another system and return my screen is blanked. I have to power cycle the computer to get a screen back. I have Screen Locking disabled in desktop management I have Screen Saving disabled in desktop power management. I have power saving disabled in desktop power management. I have the following in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ 50-monitor.conf Section "Monitor" Identifier "Dummy" Option "DPMS" "false" EndSection Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "ServerLayout0" Option "StandbyTime" "0" Option "SuspendTime" "0" Option "OffTime" "0" EndSection With all this I still have this blanking when I switch away from this hardware with my KVM. This is a HP Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 system Desktop with what hardware info tells me is "Intel Q33/Q35/G33 graphics. How can I solve this issue? [opensuse-factory] Translation of menus etc.: What's so difficult about it?

I updated KDE Plasma from 4.x to 5.2.2 today in a 13.2 VM. Just to take a look. The startmenu comprises 13 items. 3(!) of those are still in English and not in German (the default setting for that system). This is the same in almost every section I looked at: a mixture of German and English. I guess this will be similar with other languages. And Plasma 5 has been launched a year ago or so, I think. Now for my probably naive question: what the heck makes it so difficult or time-consuming to translate this stuff? It cannot be the amount of text - this simply cannot be so huge. And translating "Recent documents" (startmenu) into German is not really a challenge. They have done it before. Please give me a clue.
