Dear all!
Finally I have prepared the long-requested 0.9.x version for fail2ban. With version 0.9 many things changed in fail2ban: It supports systemd logging and improves configuration a lot.
It would be great if some of you could test the versions I have packaged in http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/weberho:/branches:/security/ and give some feedback. Please review all your configurations; I'll highly recommend to have a look at the changelog at https://github.com/fail2ban/fail2ban/blob/master/ChangeLog
If there are no objections, I'd updated the security: repository next week.
Best regards,
Johannes

Hi,
upgraded to Tumbleweed from 13.2 today. No problems, except this one:
lightdm didn't start my xfce anymore, first I thought its a problem in
lightdm, then I realized that s bit was missing from /usr/bin/Xorg.
After setting it, all works as expected.
Just wanted to let you know.

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,
After the turmoil of last week, this week appears almost quiet (but not
boring). Since the last weekly review (which only reached you guys on
Monday, sorry), we published two new snapshots (with a 3rd one expected
later this afternoon - openQA's report on it looking good so far). So I
will include the highlights of the 'yet to be released snapshot', as I
strongly believe in its quality.
Those things reached Tumbleweed in the last week:
* Linux kernel 4.0.3 (updated from 4.0.1, so bugfixes only)
* GNOME 3.16.2, the 2nd bugfix release in the 3.16 series
* The KDE Team was taking a lot of feedback in and fixed several
issues. Keep the reports coming
* Firefox 38.0.1 will be part of the soon to be released 20150521
snapshot
What's boiling? How can you help?
* There is still the topic of GCC 5 to become the default compiler.
There has been some progress, and we're down to a handful of build
failures. Extra eyes are welcome to look at the failures seen at [0]
* The number of build failures in openSUSE:Factory is generally getting
high again (non-ring packages, so things that are not on the DVDs).
Feel free to have a look at [1] and pick some candidates you deem
worthy for your fixes.

Happy hacking and a great weekend to you all (and the ones fortunate
enough to be celebrating pentecost, enjoy the extra day off)

Hi all,
The way kwallet is working right now, is very disappointing. When I
started Plasma 5, my kwallet4 was migrated without issues, which got
my hopes up, but then I discovered two issues:
- kwalletmanager is only for KDE 4, so the new wallet cannot be
managed properly as far as I can see?
- Important applications like kdepim and chromium still use the KDE4
version of kwallet, which riases a very annoying issue: how on earth
am I going to keep those wallets in sync? What will happen when e.g.
kdepim moves to kwallet 5? Will the passwords be migrated at that
time? Otherwise I might add new passwords to kwallet4 now, only to
discover lately that I lose them when the applications make the
switch.
I am glad Tumbleweed made the step to Plasma 5, but I really hope this
topic has been better thought through than I see now. Can anyone
comment on this? Will this be fixed later on? Have I missed something?
Thanks in advance!
Erwin

Hello, Since the Tumbleweed distro updated to KDE5, I cannot use my
VPN connections anymore. I have tried both removing the password and
setting networkmanager to ask it, but still the pop-up does not show
up. It keeps for a while my connection as "Needs Authorization", but
no pup up allows me to enter the password. If i enter the password and
I ask networkmanager to save it, the outcome is the same.
HELP!!!

- Update to 5.18.5
* Guile 1.6 is now obsolete. 1.7/8 or newer from now on.
Fixed issues with Guile managed locale string processing.
(It keeps getting better and better all the time and I
must keep adjusting over and over all the time.)
* more Guile-config somersaults
config/misc.def: sometimes, "pkg-config --cflags-only-I" yields
multiple directories for Guile and that incantation is the only
way to find libguile/version.h and that header is the only way
to determine the micro version and the micro version is the best
way to check for certain types of breakage. (Testing is too
convoluted.)
* for-each handler functions may now be able to free (or not)
the file text via the "handler-frees" attribute.
==== freetype2-devel ====
Subpackages: libfreetype6 libfreetype6-32bit
- Enable the bz2 compression in freetype2
- Remove patch overflow.patch from freetype2.spec where it is not
applied.
- Run spec-cleaner on the spec file.
- Update to version 2.5.5
* IMPORTANT BUG FIXES
- Handling of uncompressed PCF files works again (bug
introduced in version 2.5.4).
- Drop freetype2-2.5.3-fix-pcf.patch, merged upstream
- Update to version 2.5.4
* IMPORTANT BUG FIXES
- A variant of vulnerability CVE-2014-2240 was identified
(cf. http://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/?43661) and fixed
in the new CFF driver. All users should upgrade.
- The new auto-hinter code using HarfBuzz crashed for some
invalid fonts.
- Many fixes to better protect against malformed input.
* IMPORTANT CHANGES
- Full auto-hinter support of the Devanagari script.
- Experimental auto-hinter support of the Telugu script.
- CFF stem darkening behaviour can now be controlled at
build time using the eight macros
CFF_CONFIG_OPTION_DARKENING_PARAMETER_{X,Y}{1,2,3,4} .
- Some fields in the `FT_Bitmap' structure have been changed
from signed to unsigned type, which better reflects
the actual usage. It is also an additional means to
protect against malformed input. This change doesn't break
the ABI; however, it might cause compiler warnings.
* MISCELLANEOUS
- Improvements to the auto-hinter's algorithm to recognize
stems and local extrema.
- Function `FT_Get_SubGlyph_Info' always returned an error
even in case of success.
- Version 2.5.1 introduced major bugs in the cjk part of
the auto-hinter, which are now fixed.
- The `FT_Sfnt_Tag' enumeration values have been changed to
uppercase, e.g. `FT_SFNT_HEAD'. The lowercase variants
are deprecated. This is for orthogonality with all other
enumeration (and enumeration-like) values in FreeType.
- `cmake' now supports builds of FreeType as an OS X framework
and for iOS.
- Improved project files for vc2010,
introducing a property file
- The documentation generator for the API reference has been
updated to produce better HTML code (with proper CSS).
At the same time, the documentation got a better structure.
- The FT_LOAD_BITMAP_CROP flag is obsolete; it is not used
by any driver.
- The TrueType DELTAP[123] bytecode instructions now work in
subpixel hinting mode as described in the ClearType
whitepaper (i.e., for touched points in the
non-subpixel direction).
- Many small improvements to the internal arithmetic routines.
- Rebase don-t-mark-libpng-as-required-library.patch,
bugzilla-308961-cmex-workaround.patch, freetype2-subpixel.patch,
freetype2-bitmap-foundry.patch and overflow.patch
- Add freetype2-2.5.3-fix-pcf.patch from upstream to resolve
http://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/?43774, "Freetype 2.5.4 does not
load ungzipped PCF fonts"
- Improve don-t-mark-libpng-as-required-library.patch: also handle
Requires.private case (freetype does not include png headers)
- Update to version 2.5.3
* IMPORTANT BUG FIXES
- A vulnerability was identified and fixed in the new CFF
driver (cf. http://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/?41697; it
doesn't have a CVE number yet). All users should upgrade.
- More bug fixes related to correct positioning of
composite glyphs.
- Many fixes to better protect against malformed input.
* IMPORTANT CHANGES
- FreeType can now use the HarfBuzz library to greatly improve
the auto-hinting of fonts that use OpenType features:
Many glyphs that are part of such features but don't have
cmap entries are now handled properly, for example small
caps or superscripts. Define the configuration macro
FT_CONFIG_OPTION_USE_HARFBUZZ to activate HarfBuzz support.
You need HarfBuzz version 0.9.19 or newer. Note that HarfBuzz
depends on FreeType; this currently causes a chicken-and-egg
problem that can be solved as follows in case HarfBuzz
is not yet installed on your system.
1. Compile and install FreeType without the configuration
macro FT_CONFIG_OPTION_USE_HARFBUZZ.
2. Compile and install HarfBuzz.
3. Define macro FT_CONFIG_OPTION_USE_HARFBUZZ, then
compile and install FreeType again.
With FreeType's `configure' script the procedure boils
down to configure, build, and install Freetype, then
configure, compile, and install HarfBuzz, then configure,
compile, and install FreeType again (after executing
`make distclean').
- All libraries FreeType depends on are now checked
using the `pkg-config' configuration files first,
followed by alternative methods.
- The new value `auto' for the various `--with-XXX'
library options (for example `--with-harfbuzz=auto')
makes the `configure' script automatically link to the
libraries it finds. This is now the default.
- In case FreeType's `configure' script can't find a
library, you can pass environment variables to circumvent
pkg-config, and those variables have been harmonized as
a consequence of the changes mentioned above:
LIBZ -> removed; use LIBZ_CFLAGS and LIBZ_LIBS
LIBBZ2 -> removed; use BZIP2_CFLAGS and BZIP2_LIBS
LIBPNG_LDFLAGS -> LIBPNG_LIBS
`./configure --help' shows all available environment variables.
- The `freetype-config' script now understands
option `--static' to emit static linking information.
- Due to buildsystem changes, rename and rebase
don-t-mark-libpng-as-required-library-in-freetype-co.patch to
don-t-mark-libpng-as-required-library.patch
- Added patches:
* don-t-mark-libpng-as-required-library-in-freetype-co.patch: it's
private in pkgconfig file, and causes issues in downstream
packages
- As per patch, remove libpng-devel Requires from devel package
- freetype2 pkgconfig now includes -lpng16; make sure freetype2-devel
Requires libpng-devel
- Update to version 2.5.2
* Fixed bug that made FreeType crash on some popular (but not
fully conformant) fonts like `ahronbd.ttf'
* Another round of improvements to correct positioning and hinting
of composite glyphs in TrueType fonts
* Fixed bug introduced in version 2.5.1: handling embedded
bitmap strikes of TrueType fonts, caused garbage display
under some circumstances
* Fixed `ftgrid' demo program compilation in non-development
builds
- Droped fix-compile-in-non-debug.patch, included in this release
- Update to version 2.5.1
* For some WinFNT files, the last glyph wasn't displayed but
incorrectly marked as invalid.
* The vertical size of glyphs was incorrectly set after a call to
`FT_GlyphSlot_Embolden', resulting in clipped glyphs.
* Many fields of the `PCLT' table in SFNT based fonts (if accessed
with `FT_Get_Sfnt_Table') were computed incorrectly.
* In TrueType fonts, hinting of composite glyphs could sometimes
deliver incorrect positions of components or even distorted
shapes.
* WOFF font format support has been added.
* The auto-hinter now supports Hebrew. Greek and Cyrillic support
has been improved.
* Support for the forthcoming `OS/2' SFNT table version 5, as can
be found e.g. in the `Sitka' font family for Windows 8.1.
* The header file layout has been changed. After installation,
all files are now located in `<prefix>/include/freetype2'.
Applications that use (a) `freetype-config' or FreeType's
`pkg-config' file to get the include directory for the compiler,
and (b) the documented way for header inclusion like
[#]include <ft2build.h> or #include FT_FREETYPE_H
don't need any change to the source code.
* The stem darkening feature of the new CFF engine can now be
fine-tuned with the new `darkening-parameters' property.
* `ftgrid' has been updated to toggle various engines with the `H'
key, similar to `ftview' and `ftdiff'.
* The functionality of `ttdebug' has been greatly enhanced.
. It now displays twilight, storage, and control value data; key
* Better support of ARMv7 and x86_64 processors.
* Apple's `sbix' color bitmap format is now supported.
* Improved auto-hinter rendering for many TrueType fonts,
especially in the range 20-40ppem.
* A new face flag `FT_FACE_FLAG_COLOR' has been added (to be
accessed with the macro `FT_HAS_COLOR').
* `FT_Gzip_Uncompress' (modeled after zlib's `uncompress'
function) has been added; this is a by-product of the newly
added WOFF support.
* Support for a build with `cmake' has been contributed by John
Cary <cary(a)txcorp.com>.
* Support for x64 builds with Visual C++ has been contributed by
Kenneth Miller <kennethadammiller(a)yahoo.com>
* Manual pages for most demo programs have been added.
* The GETINFO bytecode instruction for TrueType fonts was buggy if
used to retrieve subpixel hinting information. It was necessary
to set selector bit 6 to get results for selector bits 7-10,
which is wrong.
* Improved computation of emulated vertical metrics for TrueType
fonts.
* Fixed horizontal start-up position of vertical phantom points in
TrueType bytecode.
- Rebase freetype2-subpixel.patch to current release
- Added fix-compile-in-non-debug.patch, fixes release build of ftdemos
- Added overflow.patch for resolving post-build-check detected error:
I: Statement is overflowing a buffer

cache.
* Behdad Esfahbod (on behalf of Google) contributed support for
color embedded bitmaps (eg. color emoji).
* The old FreeType CFF engine is now disabled by default.
* All code related to macro FT_CONFIG_OPTION_OLD_INTERNALS
has been removed.
* The property API (`FT_Property_Get' and `FT_Property_Set') is
now declared as stable.
* Another round of TrueType subpixel hinting fixes.
* 64bit compilation of the new CFF engine was buggy.
* Some fixes to improve robustness in memory-tight situations.
- Add dependency on libpng-devel for color emoji support.
- Drop freetype-new-cff-engine.patch, upstream now.
- Library and tools must be compiled with large file
support in 32 bit archs just like the rest of system.
- Update to version 2.4.12
* A new CFF rendering engine from Adobe
* The macro FT_CONFIG_OPTION_OLD_INTERNALS is no longer set by
default.
- freetype-new-cff-engine.patch: Enable the new CFF engine by default.
- Drop freetype2-no_rpath.patch, not needed.
- Rediffed patches.
- CVE-2012-5668.patch, CVE-2012-5669.patch, CVE-2012-5670.patch nothing to do.

* Some vulnerabilities in the BDF implementation have been fixed.
* Support for OpenType collections (OTC) has been added.
* Pure CFF fonts within an SFNT wrapper are now supported.
* Minor rendering improvements to the auto-hinter.
* `FT_GlyphSlot_Oblique' now uses a shear angle of 12.
- Modify freetype2-subpixel.patch for new subpixel hinting option.
- Drop fix-build.patch: no longer needed

retrieve most of the dictionary keys in Type 1 fonts.
- Update to version 2.4.7
* Some vulnerabilities in handling Type 1 fonts have been fixed;
see CVE-2011-3256.
* FreeType now properly handles ZapfDingbats glyph names while
constructing a Unicode character map (for fonts which don't have
one).
- Update to version 2.4.6
* For TrueType based fonts, the ascender and descender values were
incorrect sometimes (off by a pixel if the ppem value was not a
multiple of 5). Depending on the use you might now experience
a different layout; the change should result in better, more
consistent line spacing.
* Fix CVE-2011-0226 which causes a vulnerability while handling
Type 1 fonts.

fixed, introduced in 2.4.3.
* If autohinting is not explicitly disabled, FreeType now uses
the autohinter if a TrueType based font doesn't contain native
hints.

redundant and is simply ignored; this means that FreeType now
ignores the global advance width value in TrueType fonts.
* `FT_Sfnt_Table_Info' can now return the number of SFNT tables of
a font.

Please add my email address in the list of testing opensuse tumbleweed
distro. I have been using opensuse in my laptop for around 2 years now
and I would like to humbly contribute to the testing of this new
version with the new plasma version in KDE.
Thanks & Regards.

Hi list,
After recent upgrade to Plasma 5 I've ran into ignored keyboard layout
settings (and missing resolution tab in "screens and monitors"
settings' applet but let's put that away for now).
Googling symptoms didn't help, so I've dug further (error logs, source
code etc.). They were not particularly helpful, but eventually I've
figured it's kcm_input.so is responsible for handling keyboard
layouts. `zypper se -f kcm_input.so` (can't reproduce in now though)
printed out 2 packages and both were installed. Which usually is ok
for me, because we developers expect if there are multiple libs with
same name, they are not loaded by someone not supposed to. Right?
Wrong, that was not the case.
With Plasma *5* session running, an `lsof
/usr/lib64/kde4/kcm_input.so` command printed huge list of binaries
with pretty much every single KDE-related binary running.
Next steps were simple — rpm -qf /usr/lib64/kde4/kcm_input.so and
zypper rm kdebase4-workspace-addons which is a workaround but did the
job. I didn't care of KDE4 anyway.
I've spent like half a day solving this issue, so could that (and this
email) be an excuse for not filing a proper bug report and/or proper
openQA test case?
Formal repro steps: install KDE4, install Plasma 5, start Plasma 5
session, run lsof /usr/lib64/kde4/kcm_something.so
Thank you for great distro, hope that helps make it even better.
P.S. This seems to affect all the libs in /usr/lib64/kde4/ but I
haven't checked it.

Good day everyone!
When attempting to access the "Background Services" section of
systemsettings5, I get an error: "Unable to contact KDED.", which
appears to be the root of the various problems I have encountered using
the Plasma 5 desktop. I found this thread[1] discussing the problem,
but the proposed solution does not work for me, as I do not have a
/usr/share/kde4/services/kded/kscreen.desktop file to remove. The
following makes it look like kded is running, but for some reason, it
isn't working properly:
$ ps aux | grep kded
sonny 1954 0.0 0.0 6108 92 ? S 13:51 0:00
/usr/lib64/libexec/kf5/start_kdeinit --kded +kcminit_startup
sonny 2548 0.2 0.3 295404 29468 ? S 13:51 0:00
kdeinit4: kded4 [kdeinit]
sonny 6661 0.0 0.2 288892 16780 ? Rl 13:53 0:00
/usr/bin/kded5
sonny 6664 0.0 0.0 10516 1640 pts/2 S+ 13:53 0:00 grep
--color=auto kded
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
- Sonny
