[opensuse-factory] KWallet: KDE4 - Plasma5 split is painful
Hi all, The way kwallet is working right now, is very disappointing. When I started Plasma 5, my kwallet4 was migrated without issues, which got my hopes up, but then I discovered two issues: - kwalletmanager is only for KDE 4, so the new wallet cannot be managed properly as far as I can see? - Important applications like kdepim and chromium still use the KDE4 version of kwallet, which riases a very annoying issue: how on earth am I going to keep those wallets in sync? What will happen when e.g. kdepim moves to kwallet 5? Will the passwords be migrated at that time? Otherwise I might add new passwords to kwallet4 now, only to discover lately that I lose them when the applications make the switch. I am glad Tumbleweed made the step to Plasma 5, but I really hope this topic has been better thought through than I see now. Can anyone comment on this? Will this be fixed later on? Have I missed something? Thanks in advance! Erwin -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

It still lives in a frameworks branch in the Git repository: perfectly usable (it's available in the unstable repositories), but it hasn't seen any release from upstream. It probably needs some poking there: it made sense with the first Applications releases six months ago, but as more applications get ported, it will need a reconsideration.

Currently things aren't migrated after initial run, but that can probably be adjusted upstream. Can you file a wishlist report on bugs.kde.org (component kwallet) asking for the ability to manually sync the two wallets? -- Luca Beltrame - KDE Forums team KDE Science supporter GPG key ID: 6E1A4E79 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I have just checked the DBus Interfaces provided by kwalletd(4) and kwalletd5, both are identical*. The only difference is the well known name, org.kde.kwalletd vs org.kde.kwalletd5, and the object name /modules/kwalletd vs /modules/kwalletd5. I think I should be possible to register both names from kwalletd5. Kind regards, Stefan * kwalletd5 adds the standard dbus PropertiesChanged method, thus it is a strict superset. -- Stefan Brüns / Bergstraße 21 / 52062 Aachen home: +49 241 53809034 mobile: +49 151 50412019 work: +49 2405 49936-424 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Do you mind chiming in the discussion upstream at kde-frameworks-devel (the maintainer started one at my request)? This kind of insight will be definitely helpful. -- Luca Beltrame - KDE Forums team KDE Science supporter GPG key ID: 6E1A4E79 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
