[opensuse-factory] Tumbleweed - Review of the week (2015/20)

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers, Week 20 has been a very busy one, and we only got you very few snapshots this week. The update comes a bit later, but it manages to include also the change that was just released on the weekend. There are two big changes that happened this week: * Ruby has been updated to version 2.2 and is now the default ruby version inside Tumbleweed. * KDE Plasma 5 is the new default, replacing KDE 4 in Tumbleweed. We understand that this is controversal to some of the users, and others very much welcome the change. Please ensure to constructively report your issues to the KDE Team (either here on list for dicscussion or by means of bug reports at https://bugzilla.opensuse.org). The currently larger change being prepared is a switch of the compiler to GCC 5.0. [opensuse-factory] Wallpaper

Hi I'm still trying to get my head around Plasma so you'll have to excuse my ignorance. If i right click on the "desktop" (is it still a desktop?) and select "Desktop Settings". [opensuse-factory] Unlocking kwallet when loggin into Plasma 5.3?

Hi everyone, I have used a patched version of pam-config together with pam_kwallet to allow unlocking my kwallet on login. Does anyone have an idea if something similar and working is available for Plasma 5.3? I am not sure if I just misconfigured something, but I am being asked to unlock my kwallet three times after logging in. I would accept being asked once, but getting asked for each and every script I autostart is annyoing... Thanks in advance! Johannes

Hi all- Am I the only one? I have this problem on two machines. After the Saturday zypper dup, I get a login box but the desktop fails to start. The first notification is krunner closed unexpectedly executable: krunner PID Signal: Aborted (6) This is followed in short order by 3 repeats of: We are sorry Plasma closed unexpectedly. Executable: plasmashell PID Signal: Aborted. I am left with the wallpaper and no menus, no keystrokes save <Ctrl><Esc> to see processes. I set aside my /kde4 directory.--no change I created a new user. -- no change How do I troubleshoot this problem? Hi I'm one of those that did a "zypper dup" to get Plasma 5.3 and this could be a symptom of where KDE4/Plasma5 apps are all mixed up. A couple of queries here.. Kmail does not automatically go and get mail even those its configured to do so it waits for the interval check time then it asks for Kwallet access. If don't wait for kmail to process the time intercal and i press <Check Mail> it then asks for Kwallet password. Question is, how can i get either get rid of kwallet or make it remember the password. I've tried using kwallet manager but it does not allow me to update as it, "Sorry, the system security policy didn't allow you to save the changes." Is there a page somewhere stating what we should do if we have the confusing mix of Kde4 and Plasma 5 apps etc? [opensuse-factory] Plasma 5.3 - Configure Desktop - can't use functions that require root

HI Tried a few things in "Configure Desktop" that require root password to apply e.g. tried to change KDM login theme but when you press <Apply>, you get this message "Unable to authenticate/execute the action: (code 4)". I could launch Yast from "Configure Desktop" as it correctly prompts for password. I have setup libvirt with a nat network, which uses virbr0. As soon as a VM is startet, another interface vnet0 appears. So basically I want to open a port on whichever of these two interfaces is the right one. If I stop SuSEfirewall2, then the port can be reached, i.e. the ssh service is not the problem. Any hints? Is there something I'm missing? [opensuse-factory] Latest snapshot burped due to hard drive error

Latest snapshot (downloaded on 5/15/2014) burped on drive error during install, but gave no informative info I could do anything about, but pointed to a report. I sent that separatly. I then tried 13.1 and got another burp. 12.2 also burped, but gave me an informative text message in a window that spell out out the drive and what the problem was. I removed that drive and then the snapshot installed correctly. Between the problem with the drive, and trying to figure out the new Kde4 it has taken all day to get back to working order. Kde4 is initially majorly different in appearance and how to set it up to be useful. Especially when I had no warning of the changes. It would be far better to do what 12.2 did with the drive glitch than what the snapshot did. One major good upgrade is in the mounting and access to USB removables.
