[opensuse-factory] Installation of Leap RC1

Today I performed a native installation of Leap RC1 on my desktop. I have the following observations: After booting the system from the USB stick and choosing Checking the distribution media, this did not work. Via the menus that follow I found an Expert menu entry that finally gave me the opportunity to check the media and choose the proper device to check, which did succeed. So apparently that primary entry does not know the medium it was booted from. During the installation I selected Dutch as language. Most of the text was in Dutch, however the slide show did not show the Dutch text in case "openSUSE Leap 42.1" was present in the text. I would suggest to present the text with a parameter containing the name of the distribution. In that case the text of the slide show does not need new translated strings with each distribution and translations are preserved from distribution to distribution. I really miss the opportunity to set the name of the system during the installation. One needs to change that name afterward in /etc/hostname which now gets an arbitrary name and is not even the name the system gets from the DHCP server. The name it gets from the DHCP server is shown on prompts. My preference is to have this name set during installation and not to request that name from the DHCP server. The installation went otherwise well. In KDE I had the already reported problems. I tried Kontact and in KMail I found the default theme having too much spacing between the folders in the folder window. I have a lot of folders which in my current KDE system fit on the screen. Not anymore. I forgot how to change the theme to the one I am using in Tumbleweed, which has less spacing, but I will find the solution. [opensuse-factory] leap - partioning proposal with subvolumes for mailman, libvirt, named, pgsql ?

I was just re-installing Leap on my test desktop when I noticed the btrfs partitioning proposal: * Create subvolume @/var/lib/libvirt/images on device /dev/sda5 with * Create subvolume @/var/lib/mailman on device /dev/sda5 * Create subvolume @/var/lib/mariadb on device /dev/sda5 with * Create subvolume @/var/lib/named on device /dev/sda5 * Create subvolume @/var/lib/pgsql on device /dev/sda5 I guess mariadb is installed by default, but what about the rest, is that really also default? mailman, named and pgsql? [opensuse-factory] VPN access broken in TW

Ordinarily I would file a bug, but given that I cannot login to bugzilla, that's a different story, don't get me started, I have to report on the list. As of this morning after running zypper in for TW ai am unable to connect to VPN. I am using openconnect through network manager. In an attempt to preserve the message that pops up I accidentally clicked on "Don't show this message again", thus I cannot share the error message that is displayed when the connection fails. And I have no idea how to reset that flag. Not that I think it matters but I am using XFCE. [opensuse-factory] Dolphin in trouble after zypper dup to RC1 - Should I report here or to the bug list

I was on m2, and yesterday I added RC1 http://download.opensuse.org/source/distribution/leap/42.1-RC1/ repos and did zypper dup --no-recommends After the upgrade, Dolphin from the last session came up incorrectly (image) claiming my home dirrectory does not exist. When I run dolphin from an icon, it does not start. When I run doplhin from the command line, I get: "Trying to convert empty KLocalizedString to QString." QProcessPrivate::execChild() failed to chdir to file:/home/mzimmermann Attempted to re-run an already running session. doesn't know "" At this point it is better email this here or report at https://bugzilla.opensuse.org Thanks Milan

[opensuse-factory] [Leap 42.1] Corrupt display on guest when hibernating host

And several other combinations. Sometimes the display of the guest corrupts like shown in this photo: <http://susepaste.org/56632586> Aparently it happens when I hibernate the host with the guest running, but also in other situations. The display can be cleared by resizing the vmplayer window, because it forces a redraw. Also sometimes when clicking around on areas of the desktop thar are active: ie, the guest is running fine. For instance, doing an ssh session from the host to the guest, and then running "chvt 1", "chvt 7" triggers it. I don't know if this is a vmware bug or an openSUSE bug (guest). [opensuse-factory] Leap - Imagemagick::convert produces enormous PDFs

I do this quite frequently - scan in something as jpeg, then command line convert to PDF. When I tried it with Leap (scanner worked out of the box), a 774374byte JPEG was converted to a 27Mb PDF. [opensuse-factory] Want to make a plasma session flicker like mad?

Try using the Vivaldi (64bit) browser for a while, use the mouse wheel to scroll up and down in various sites. i'm only playing with it for reading newspaper sites like the guardian, telegraph, huffington, metro and some of those sites hate being scrolled via the mouse wheel (though no problem in other browsers) If the pages start to flicker when scrolling then exit the browser and watch the desktop do the same for a while. Admittedly, vivaldi is a work in progress but i have no idea what to report as i can't get it to do this every time. Just wish i could record it to show it happening. i'm concerned that it affects the desktop after the browser has closed. Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers, It only took ten days since the last snapshot. It could be worse.. reasons are some issues to fix, some resource deviation (Leap RC1 has been released), so OBS and openQA, as well as human resources, were all a bit focused on Leap. But, the latest Tumbleweed snapshot brings some big updates: * GNOME 3.18.0 (Arch was faster this time…. sorry) * PulseAudio 7.0 * KDE Applications 15.08.1 We already heard of some bugs that are important for you to know – and even more important are their fixes / workarounds for you: * PulseAudio 7.0 / Plasma 5.0: they don’t like each other as much as they should; there are various crashers reported in kdeinit, kded, kmix. See https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=950487 for full details. There is a workaround posted in this bug: Modify /etc/pulse/default.pa to replace the line load-module module-native-protocol-unix with load-module module-native-protocol-unix srbchannel=no * Skype might not start up: there are users relying on this. Due to an internal OBS issue, it seems one of the packages (libharfbuzz0-32bit) was not properly synchronized and an old version kept on lingering in the repository (despite the new version being built properly). I heard your voices from the last issue with VirtualBox and a corrected harfbuzz is published in the update repository. With the next snapshot, this will be cleaned out again and corrected in the main repository). Things that are being forged in the Factory are: * KDE Applications 15.08.2 * GNOME 3.18.1 * Linux Kernel 4.2.3: this will obsolete the existing kernel-desktop flavor. kernel-default will be used in the future; the update is supposed to go smooth, but there are chances that some KMP packages won’t be auto-updated. Keep an eye out for them Then, lastly, I would want to lose a word about the VirtualBox issues we had in the last week, so that people stop speculating in so many ways on how to avoid it. First of all, VirtualBox is on the DVD (Ring 2), as such, it is being build tested in the staging areas. A new kernel for example can only enter Tumbleweed if the respective modules build. So, despite us updating the kernel with the 1002 snapshot, this was not the reason for the non-available KMPs. So what was? In fact, the issue was human induced: we checked in systemd 224 and the new kernel together. Due to systemd, the build server configuration needed to be adjusted to reflect the new package names. This (and ONLY this) resulted in virtualbox turning 'unresolvable’ – as its spec file hard-buildrequired wrong systemd packages. This was not caught in stagings by us… prjconf is happens to be a bit tricky in some cases. But, yes, I admit, it took us too long to publish VirtualBox in the update channel… Workarounds have been around since the very beginning: * Boot the last 4.1.x kernel: as zypp per default is set to keep the old kernel, this was still a valid option * Instructions were posted on the Mailing list on how to manually build the package on your own machine * The Virtualization repository had the fix for VirtualBox rather quick. Getting the package from there was thus also an option I’ll promise to keep an eye out for such issues in the future and will attempt to deliver quicker solutions to you. I've disabled the first entry in the boot setup from BIOS, but is this the way it is intended to work? How can I get rid of the non-working boot entry?
