[opensuse-factory] BoF: Release Schedule NG

Hi, I'm pretty tired after returning to my home, so all I want to write are my impressions of the BoF about the release schedule. I gave a talk, Robert had two and all three had interesting discussions and then we had a 90 minutes BoF about the same topic: the factory development process. And all in all I would like to summarize this way: our schedule is not the problem, the process needs improvement and the distribution needs more people to take responsibility. The main part of the BoF was about if we need to change 12.3's schedule to implement changes or not. We agreed to implement what we can and stick to the schedule - even if that means that 12.3 won't be our strongest release. But reliable release schedule and reliable quality are our strongest priorities - features and number of packages come after that. That said, we were about 20 people in that BoF, so we can only give recommendations to the developer community as a whole. [opensuse-factory] New package: ghc

I will submit ghc (The Glorious Glasgow Haskell Compilation System) as a new package to Factory. GHC's main web page is: http://www.haskell.org/ghc/ Package ghc is developed at OBS in devel:languages:haskell Description: GHC is a state-of-the-art, open source, compiler and interactive environment for the functional language Haskell. It is part of Haskell Platform. Maintainability: The compiler has about 3-5 releases per year. Reasons to have it in Factory: Needed for Haskell Platform FATE #314446 (https://features.opensuse.org/314446) and pandoc FATE #312777 (https://features.opensuse.org/312777) Hints for package reviewers: We need to bootstrap the compiler. Therefore we need to bring a binary compiler in with a source file. That binary compiler will only be used to bootstrap a stage 0 compiler and will not be included in the resulting binary rpm. After bootstrap is done in Factory I will submit the package again with all bootstrap code removed. Lines that I will remove are marked with comments # remove after initial bootstrap and # end bootstrap. [opensuse-factory] KDE menus and gitorious

I created a merge request for desktop-data three weeks ago. It's just a minor patch that doesn't really fix anything but a warning from kbuildsycoca4. I'm not sure about how Gitorious works, maintainers are supposed to notice the "1" in the merge requests section or they receive an email notifying it? And since I'm on it. Since I updated my 11.3 system to KDE to 4.5 the "inline" part of the menu is not honored... Expected behavior? [opensuse-factory] Status of systemd vs sysvinit, xinetd, syslog

Hi, As development group maintainer I start to see requests (mostly from Cristian Rodriguez) that remove sysvinit, xinetd support completely from packages and also remove syslog dependencies. What is the current status? Is the total sysvinit removal and total xinetd removal now fact and the future plan? [opensuse-factory] Complain about conditional used run_permissions macro

Hi, we're using %{?run_permissions:%{run_permissions}} in the post scriptlet of the samba-krb-printing package. While building for opensuse-factory we get this warning [ 1762s] WARNING: run_permissions is obsolete and will be removed january 2013 As we execute %{run_permissions} only if it is defined all looks good from our side. Therefore we consider to simply ignore the warning. But I fear we'll come to the point where the package sources will not get accepted for openSUSE Factory. Our goal is to use the same spec file also for older products like SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 and 11. [opensuse-factory] Updating of 'filesystem' package (to 12.3-3.1) fails

Hi all, the latest filesystem package received some script magic, trying to rename /var/lock to /var/lock.migrated and finally adding some symlinking to /run/lock, which is the new location for the lock folder. Unfortunately, on my machine, this fails for some reason (currently unknown to me): Installing: filesystem-12.3-3.1 ...............................................................................................[error] Installation of filesystem-12.3-3.1 failed: (with --nodeps --force) Error: Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: error: unpacking of archive failed on file /var/lock: cpio: rename failed - Is a directory error: filesystem-12.3-3.1.x86_64: install failed error: filesystem-12.3-2.1.x86_64: erase skipped Trying to do this move manually results in: # mv /var/lock /var/lock.migrated mv: cannot move ‘/var/lock’ to ‘/var/lock.migrated’: Device or resource busy lsof +D /var/lock yields no results. apparmor has been ruled out (disabled) Any other good ideas on what can be tested? [opensuse-factory] Forgot to install grub,after removing grub2. How to install bootloader from minimal-bash?

Hi, I just tried to install grub, and removed grub2. zypper said grub legacy already installed, and removed grub2. After reboot, grub was not 'in command' forgot, did not think about to install it. What command is needed to boot the kernel, or rather, install a bootloader? 122 install disc only has cli rescue, but is not usable at that point. 122 lacks the repair option/boot installed os at install point. Any suggestions as to how to get a complete system booted from zero, without having to install everything new?? Written from another box of course...
