[opensuse-factory] openSUSE 12.2 deserving of attention?

[opensuse-factory] Really too much to ask for a working Software Management system ??

Since the update of Factory to GCC 4.7, the YaST software management system has not been working anymore. I have seen numerous bug reports on this, but it seems as if the YaST maintainers are pointing to the Zypp Team. So instead of working together and providing a solution for this, we as users are still stuck with a non working Software Management system. Despite that we have already reached the 12.2 Beta 1 milestone. Are we really expecting from our users that they will fall-back to a command line tool with reduced functionality ?? I think this is the biggest Show- Stopper that openSUSE 12.2 has at the moment and I really hope that the YaST and Zypper teams getting their acts together and providing a working solution before 12.2 is released. It would be really strange to see a release without the possibility to update the system properly. I apologize for the tone of the message, but I am really getting pissed off with the current situation around YaST and if this is not resolved soon, then my system for one will never see the official release of 12.2. [opensuse-factory] Beta 1 installer still hangs when Searching for Linux partitions during installation

Hello all, The installer has been hanging when it reaches "Searching for Linux partitions" from M1 - M3 to Beta 1. The only way to get around this is to add "acpi=off" to the Boot options or select "NO ACPI". I have tested the installers from 11.3 right up to 12.1 and this problem _never_ _existed_ before. Not even in the Milestones. I have submitted a Bugzilla report when 12.2 M3 came out. My CPU is an Intel Quad-core Q6600. Asus P5Q mobo with 4 GB of RAM. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? [opensuse-factory] network startup gone nuts

sysvinit-init x86 system: Today I did a zypper dup on an M2 system. If I boot the new 3.4 kernel, eth0 doesn't show up from 'ifconfig -a', tried after seeing "unable to resolve hostnames" on tty1 while finding a perfectly valid /etc/resolv.conf. Booting either 3.4 or prior (3.3) kernel, init spends a bunch of time playing games with fstab's cifs and nfs entries, both noauto and auto (which I have over 100 of), as if needing to stat every file, dir and subdir, tremendously lengthening boot time, regardless whether eth0 came up or not. tty1 does not show network as a failed service, even though there is no eth0 and thus no functional network. Lack of network seems to cause clock error = to TZ offset, only with 3.4, which in turn causes numerous "mount time in the future" and "you must specify filesystem type errors" on partitions. http://fm.no-ip.com/Tmp/SUSE/Factory/ contains /var/log/ boot.msg boot.omsg messages ntp -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." [opensuse-factory] pkgconfigdeps.sh causes huge dependency bloat

Hi: The script that generates -devel package "pkgconfig" dependencies does not quite do the right thing. It honors *.private fields even when packages do not contain static libraries, hence adding a lot of unneeded stuff into the dependency chain. I you have ever wondered why every time you build a package it downloads and inject half of the distribution into your buildroot, this is a likely candidate to look in ;-) Will be cool if someone can take a look at it. I've got a request from 'damianator' for GNOME:Ayatana to join as maintainer; He seems to want to continue my past efforts around Unity, so I've accepted it and gave him full permissions on GNOME:Ayatana. I suppose this is the best thing to do in the best interests of openSUSE; Just reporting in case someone wants to help him out, since I know from my own experience that this is really a huge task.
