Hi, I just checked the Factory status page in OBS https://build.opensuse.org/stage/project/status?project=openSUSE%3AFactory&… And I found it a bit strange to find so many "different changes in devel project". Also for contributions I made to some devel project where I'm not the maintainer and cannot forward to Factory myself :-( AFAIK patchlevel and bugfixes are still allowed in current Factory so could I ask project maintainers to run through their devel projects and submit what should be submitted? [netpbm 10.35.77-3.2] There is a discrepancy between the netpbm manpages and its binaries. For example, pngtopnm --version gives pngtopnm: Using libnetpbm from Netpbm Version: Netpbm 10.35.77 pngtopnm: Compiled Sat Sep 18 20:20:23 UTC 2010 by user "bryanh" pngtopnm: BSD defined pngtopnm: RGB_ENV='RGBDEF' pngtopnm: RGBENV= 'RGBDEF' (env vbl is unset) However, pngtopnm.1 (contained in the same netpbm bundle) refers to a binary called `pngtopam' which has been added in Netpbm 10.44, and indeed, the manpage for pngtopam is part of the netpbm bundle but the binary is missing... BTW, there is a slight irony: The package description starts with The latest version of the Portable Bitmap Plus Utilities. [...] But version 10.35 is more than 4 years old, with the current version at 10.53 $(Q#|(B even the `stable' series of netpbm has reached 10.47 meanwhile. Hi folks, Last week, the first release candidate for util-linux-2.19 was released. The package is ready in Base:System for testing (not yet submitted to Factory - see below). From the package changelog: * lsblk(8): - this NEW COMMAND lists information about all or selected block devices in tree-like format. * partx(8): - this command has been rewritten to use libblkid for partition tables parsing. It supports aix, bsd, dos, gpt, mac, minix, sgi, solaris_x86, sun, ultrix and unixware now. - supports new command line option "--show" to list partitions in new format - prints UUID and name for GPT and mac partitions * findmnt(8): - supports new command line option "--submounts" to list all submounts for selected mountpoint(s) * agetty(8): - supports new command line options "-c" and "-s" to reuse already initialized tty cflags and existing baud rate * mount(8), umount(8): - could be linked with libmount (--enable-libmount-mount) to manage userspace mount options outside /etc/mtab on systems where the file is a symlink to /proc/mounts. (EXPERIMENTAL, enabled in openSUSE package) * losetup(8), mount(8): - uses /sys/dev/block/<device>/loop/backing_file rather than loopdev ioctls (requires kernel >= 2.6.37) * fsck(8): - supports new command line option "-l" to lock whole-disk device by exclusive flock(2). This option is recommended when more fsck(8) instances are executed in the same time. * rtcwake(8): - supports new mode "show" to print the current RTC alarm time * fstrim(8): - this NEW COMMAND allows to discard unused blocks on a mounted filesystem (wrapper for FITRIM ioctl) * swapon(8): - supports new options "discard" and "nofail" The most important change is that mount(8) and umount(8) can manage userspace mount options without writable mtab, which allows /etc/mtab to be symlink to /proc/self/mounts. This is important for systemd, which requires mtab to be such symlink. /etc/mtab is converted to the symlink automatically by the package in the %post phase. OK, now to the point: the package is ready for testing in Base:System. I did some testing and it worked fine for me, but since the switch to RO mtab and (u)mount linked to (still experimental) libmount is not a trivial change, and we already had Milestone 5, I'd like to hear some opinions whether this should GO/NOGO to Factory (to get to 11.4). Personally, I'm in favor of "GO". BTW, here's example output (on my system) from the two recently added commands. [opensuse-factory] RFC: updating clutter to 1.5.x/1.6.0

Hi, I'm considering updating clutter from 1.4.x to 1.5.x and 1.6.0 when it'll be out (before the end of the month). The reason is that there's no way we can get the gnome-shell package working with clutter 1.4.x, unless we keep an old version of gnome-shell, mutter, gtk3 and more. And keeping the old versions is more harmful than helpful, imho. Note that the list of packages using clutter in openSUSE is rather limited, and they're, as far as I know, all GNOME-related: empathy, gnome-games, gthumb, as well as plugins for claws and for eog. And mutter/gnome-shell, of course. I don't expect any specific issue with the update. Any opinion on this? [opensuse-factory] factory-tested status

Hi folks, Factory iso build numbers have finally passed the 1000. Of course that is completely meaningless, so now to something completely different: the important stuff. I had started to include many important development projects in the automated testing, so that there is a chance to find bugs before they even hit Factory... This has the advantage that it might be easier to tell what is responsible for breakage. As for the random kernel crashes observed since three weeks https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=660464 there is hope, that linux-2.6.37 already has a fix. Then I had added to openQA a regression test for sntp https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=657626 and found that there is already a newer version of ntp waiting in network:time which is fixing this problem. The extra-repo testing so far had turned up a segfault in KDE-Playground's amarok that already got fixed and a more complicated problem in GNOME-devel's gdm concerning VT-allocation and Xorg. tested extra-repos now include: Kernel:/HEAD X11:/XOrg Base:/System KDE:/Distro:/Factory KDE:/Unstable:/Playground GNOME:/Factory X11:/xfce Then libreoffice and kontact are missing since a new build(0889). And GNOME started to look rather different and complained about firefox not being its default browser http://openqa.opensuse.org/results/openSUSE-GNOME-LiveCD-x86_64-Build1001 And finally... but this is getting into minor details... there is "amarok /usr/share/sounds/alsa/test.wav" not queuing this file (working on KDF and KDE-playground) Oh and akonadi is wasting 128MB of RAM on KDE-LiveCDs for mysql binlogs du -s ~/.local/share/akonadi/db_data/ 143652 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=260630 has workarounds I hope we can get fixes for many of the above issues into Factory next week (which is btw. your last chance to get (well-tested) code into Milestone 6 of 6). This should make Milestone 6 of 6 a nice one. [opensuse-factory] Status of request #56582

Hi, a few weeks ago the coreboot-utils package was split into coreboot-utils and flashrom. coreboot-utils is still part of factory and I'm happy about that. The split off flashrom package has not been included in factory yet AFAICS. Its inclusion is tracked in request #56582. It would be great to have flashrom in factory again. If the dependency on request #56581 is a problem, we can submit a flashrom package without that dependency. Legal info: The flashrom package does not contain new code. The same flashrom code was part of coreboot-utils in factory since 11.0, so a legal review is probably not needed. Its help text says: "This package is not installed and should not be installed under any circumstances, especially not because of unresolved dependencies that other packages might have or get. Packages set to 'taboo' are treated as if they did not exist on any installation media." IOW, never does not mean never to YaST2, so why have taboo at all? [opensuse-factory] liveCD 11.4 and virtualbox
