[opensuse-factory] how to make sudo useful?

hi, i have been bitten by this too many times to count already. [opensuse-factory] Yast trying to install kernel-default

Hi everybody, Lately I observe that zypper and yast try to install (as recommended) kernel-default on my system. I currently run kernel-desktop, at the latest version as published in Factory. How can I find out what tries to pull in kernel-default? "zypper inr" only tells me it wants to install it, but not why. zypper inr --debug-solver creates some nice nifty xml and .gz files, but I seem not able to look for the right things there :) any pointers are appreciated. Hey Group; Someone in amarok's email list attempting to figure out my Amarok problem and suggested this. Along with FlightGear (self compiled), Blender and amarok fail in KDE4. And this was from a DVD load. I very much feel it is a KDE4/DBUS problem in 11.3 recent version. All of them worked on the last version. as root "kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental" which shows hundreds of errors. Error from a command line as a user> amarok KCrash: Application 'amarok' crashing... sock_file=/home/donn/.kde4/socket-m1l/kdeinit4__0 <unknown program name>(6945)/: Communication problem with "amarok" , it probably crashed. Hi, Not much news, but I put a first scretch of an 11.4 roadmap here: http://www.suse.de/~coolo/opensuse_11.4/ But I'm thinking about leaving out Milestone1 (which of course would actually mean Milestone7 is Milestone6 ;) - mainly because I'm on vacation in august, but I know many more are. As the feedback for the 11.3 release was pretty small I did the 11.4 roadmap very much based on the 11.3 data - with a bit more room around new year. We'll see how this works out - KDE 4.6 should at least fit perfectly for the last milestone and I have not yet seen plans for the release after GNOME 3.0, so I don't know - but I guess 11.4 will have GNOME 3.0.X. [opensuse-factory] pgp error on repositories this afternoon

Hello, For several hours now, when I refresh my 11.3 repositories (OSS & NON-OSS), I get a PGP error: the key is empty... I don't know why nor if it's on one server or several ones (its on dowload...) Amorok crash from a konsole (icon or any other way). I have tracked out that one passed version reason was openSuSE substituting /usr/lib/xine with two versions ( fixed that problem ). This is a DVD loaded 11.3 and not even upgraded with zypper or yast2. It is a i686 running as a i586 and has many NVIDIA chips for Ethernet, audio, EIDE and AGP GS7600 video. You might also include Blender 2.49b fails and self compiled Flight Gear 2.0 will not run. [opensuse-factory] RFC: fixing /usr on NFS

I've just done some experiment booting with /usr mounted via NFS, it basically works but there are some issues. A major issue seems to be that nothing provides the $remote_fs facility, I think this could be done using a dummy script which requires all remote filesystems such as nfs and cifs. Any better ideas where to put that? The following init scripts (in a standard install) have some issues: * boot.storage-fixup: requires /usr/sbin/storage\-fixup, /usr/sbin/dmidecode, /usr/bin/sg_inq on /usr * either skip when /usr is not available or move /usr/sbin/storage-fixup, /usr/sbin/dmidecode, /usr/bin/sg_inq to /sbin * boot.startprerun: requires /usr/bin/staprun * fails gracefully, optional * boot.cycle: requires /usr/sbin/grub * move /usr/sbin/grub to /sbin * SuSEfirewall2_init fails, needs iptables in /usr * change nfs to explicitly call "SuSEfirewall2_init start" after mounting /usr so it gets run as early as possible * dbus: service files in /usr/share/dbus-1/ not available * dbus seems to discover these when needed later * haldaemon: fails without /usr * will die anyway, require $remote_fs * cifs: wants en_US locale * require nfs to ensure /usr is mounted Regarding udev I have not been able to find any script dependencies on /usr and I'd be glad to hear from the maintainers where the actual problems are. I also noted that some essential shell utilities from coreutils get installed in /usr/bin rather than /bin which causes init scripts to fail. According to what criteria are the utilities ssplit between /usr/bin and /bin? [opensuse-factory] How to do a factory install

Hi list, I found an machine that is kind of obsolete and I want to install factory on it so that i can help submitting some bugs. However the wiki-pages aren't any help atm, same goes for the old-en wiki. That's why i'm turning to you. How do I go about getting a factory install? Do I go with a 11.3 install add a specific repository and do zypper dup or is there something more to it than that?
