Hey SuSE; Ref: /etc/init.d/postgresql and /etc/sysconfig/postgreql. OpenOffice on Milestone 3 fails to correctly open a power point file. Over and over it tries to recover a save from an email pps file or off the HD. First it is setting the permission so it can not write the file. Corrected with chmod and it will write the file. Then calling up OpenOffice3 Presenter, it fails to have completed the recovery and just tries again. [opensuse-factory] Newly prepared virtualbox-ose in Virtualization repo

Hi all ! Because of bnc#567435 (duplicated symbols in vbox kernel modules) we have to split kernel packages for virtualbox-ose. Well and this is already done (in Virtualization repo https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=virtualbox- ose&project=Virtualization), but we also decide to clean up a spec file a little. This is also already done, but package needs testing. We also decide to move virtualbox-ose to Virtualization repo where it belongs. Just a notice : backported will be only last stable product (11.2 today) I will switch devel directory from Virtualization:VirtualBox to Virtualization next week + and I will try to push all changes to Factory. (I want to hit Milestone 5) Suggestions how to improve virtualbox-ose.spec in Virtualization repo are welcome. [opensuse-factory] [ANNOUNCE] Will update PackageKit to 0.6.1 in Factory next week

Hi, Looking at the git log from PackageKit, it looks like Scott managed to fix the build of the zypp backend -- which was the reason we were stuck with an old PackageKit (0.5.1). So we'll put the next release of PackageKit in Factory (0.6.1, due next week, I think). Note that this changes the API (at least deprecated API were removed) and therefore will possibly break tools using PackageKit that were not prepared for this. You can take a look at the NEWS file for more details: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/packagekit/tree/NEWS As far as I know, there are two major consumers of PackageKit: gnome-packagekit (which should be fine) and the KDE update applet (no idea what the status is here). Is it an option to not update PackageKit? Not really: the version we have is old, not really maintained, and my guess is that we'll soon have tools that will require the new stuff there. [opensuse-factory] grub1 gfxmenu resolution configuration

I don't see anywhere in /etc/sysconfig (e.g. boot, bootloader, bootsplash) to control the resolution in /boot/message pointed to by gfxmenu in /boot/grub/menu.lst. On my Intel systems the Grub resolution is much lower than with nv, radeon or mga. I'd like them all to be the higher used by the non-intels. Hi, I made some feature request about include opensource firmware[1] for broadcom wifi cards into default installation media. https://features.opensuse.org/306619 I made a package with this firmware in my home repo[2]. It has been build for oS 11.2 and Factory and resides in noarch. After installing this package, firmware is located in '/lib/firmware/b43- open'. b43 tries to load firmware first from '/lib/firmware/b43', if there is no firmware tries load from '/lib/firmware/b43-open'. Using print-to-pdf creates a pdf file with ultra-low-res content, basically useless for printing it again. Using gwenview to view and print-to-pdf creates a file that properly reproduces the content of the tif image. The printing options in both programs are absolutely identical, but the result differs significantly. It is not obvious to me why this is the case. [opensuse-factory] openSUSE 11.3 Milestone 4 Release

The fourth of seven scheduled milestone releases for 11.3 was completed and released on schedule. Milestone 4 focuses on switching to upstart as init daemon. Here's what you may find interesting in the new release: * OpenOffice.Org has been updated to 3.2.1 Beta1 with new features * NetworkManager has been updated to version 0.8 with fixes to better support bluetooth and GSM. * cups has been updated to version 1.4.2, it "adds over 67 changes and new features to CUPS 1.3.11, including improved Bonjour/DNS-SD support, supply level and status reporting for network printers via SNMP, an improved web interface, and the CUPS DDK tools." * The conntrack - network filtering system has been added. These are userspace tools that allow system administrators interact with the Connection Tracking System, which is the module that provides stateful packet inspection for iptables. * The Mono stack has been updated to the bug fix release 2.6.3 together with MonoDevelop 2.2.2. * Python has been updated to the bug fix release 2.6.5 RC 2 * samba was updated to version 3.5.1 * The Moblin team has started with the integration of the Moblin UI into the distribution and plan to have everything ready for the next milestone. * The LiveCDs have virtualbox guest tools. Now features like screen resizing, seamless mode, and shared clipboards work fine and automatically after boot-up! Check this (~8,5MB) ogv video to see the guest addition features in action. Gnome/GTK desktop users: * GNOME has been updated to the GNOME 2.30 release candidate (2.29.92). * With the next milestone, empathy will be the default IM client for GNOME. Empathy supports now sending files via drag & drop and the IRC module now includes support for common IRC commands such as /join. * Tomboy's startup time has been drastically improved. Syncing is now done automatically. * Natilus' user interface now includes a new split view mode and the default is set to browser mode. Nautilus features a number of user interface changes including a new split view mode and is now set to browser mode by default, replacing spatial mode. KDE desktop users: * KDE has been updated to version 4.4.1 the most important changes: * A performance problem in KMail when sending emails has been fixed * Various fixes in Plasma widgets and other addons, such as the analog clock and the picture frame * A number of fixes in Konsole, KDE's powerful terminal application * Amarok is now at version 2.3, "Areas such as podcast support and saved playlists have seen huge improvements, as has the support for USB mass storage devices (including generic MP3 players)". * k3b is updated to 2.0 RC2 LXDE desktop users: * Switch to pcmanfm 0.9.3 and libfm 0.1.9. Now lxde fully supports trash, automount, gvfs, "menu-browsing" and much more. * lxsession: upgrade to 0.4.3 with d-bus support As this is a milestone release, 11.3 milestone 4 does contain bugs that we know about, but should not stand between courageous contributors and release testing. The known bugs include: * gwibber has been updated but depends on desktopcouch and that stack is not yet integrated into openSUSE.
