[opensuse-factory] Brothers BRMFC7840W printer

Hey Group; I have a Brothers MFC 7840W all in one printer which works via the network and in Windows - however, not in openSuSE . I downloaded the factory RPMs and installed them. Yast2 and localhost:631 sees it and cups seems to be acting correctly. "lp file.txt" implies in is ok and lpq shows the file was sent and ready. lsusb and hwinfo agree. Yast2 Printer keeps asing for "Password for root at localhost" in both a console and X. But Yast2 offer no option to type it in so it just hangs until a ps ax and kill -9. Bug #559560 opened. Even an older kernel that built a week ago also gives the error. [opensuse-factory] JFYI: Factory ftp stream and media changes

Hi, we did a small, but important change in OBS these days. Michael added support for all the ftp trees and product medias (installation DVD, CD, network install media) generation now with the tools, which are checked into the project. This means kiwi, inst-source-utils and friends for generating Factory are used from openSUSE:Factory project. While the openSUSE 11.2 media generation will use the tools from openSUSE:11.2 This makes us more robust and we can actually develop for example the kiwi tool, which creates all these medias without the fear that we break eg. openSUSE 11.1 media creation. As a side effect you may have noticed that our factory ftp tree had incorrect meta data, which was fixed meanwhile. The nice thing about this is that we will notice this hopefully before submitting broken packages to Factory in future. Just like with all the other packages, which should first build in devel projects. This is quite a big change internally, so please speak up when you notice some not explainable change, which is caused maybe by this. [opensuse-factory] Strange password message

What would cause root to need to supply a "root password for localhost?". This message shows up in a console tty1 while running Yast2>Hardware>Printer as root when I try to record the changes. Sitting at a 7400 G4 as I type this, I can say that there remains some interest. The biggest area would be in revitalizing old machines that were otherwise disposed of as excess. Schools trying to wring a small amount of worth out of older machines would also benefit. Today's world is one where the x86 architecture is not absolutely dominant. We're already seeing in the smartphone market the near dominance of ARM architecture in devices. As those devices are becoming essentially small portable computers first with telephone capability a welded-on after-thought, the potential install base is becoming broader. Strangely enough, Android is capable of running on any Power Architecture architecture based handsets although I am not aware of any out there right now. Will there be a "mass market" in a few years with a single architecture dominating? I don't know. Right now, the signs for the future are uncertain. Keeping a PPC legacy intact at least provides good practice for any potential world where no single architecture dominates. [opensuse-factory] postfix updates not running postmap

I am consistently getting postfix updates which do not perform postmap against changed files, expecially relay, header-checks and generic, generating error entries in /var/log/mail.
