[opensuse-factory] modules gobble disk space with built kernel

/lib/modules/(stock2.6.21kernel)# du -s 60804 . /lib/modules/(my2.6.21kernel)# du -s 538292 . That's a 785% increase in space consumed by my modules over stock modules. Does that happen for anyone building their own Factory kernel? Can a more normal space consumption be made to happen by a mere mortal kernel building novice like myself? [opensuse-factory] Kontact crash/timesout

I use opensuse 11 x86_64 with kontact Version 1.3 from the opensuse 11 repo. Kontact use to work without this problem but since my workstation ip changed, i get a constant error: connection to the server <servername> was unexpectedly closed or timed out. It will be established automatically if possible" And in fact, some times it does get re-established but other times, kontact crashes. Some things i have done to try to fix this: -tried just kmail->same problem -delete existing account and recreated the email account->same problem -other email clients work fine -updated kontact from the opensuse repo->same problem -uninstall kontact/kmail and its dependencies. then delete all kmail/kontact folders. Reinstall kmail/kontact->same problem -reformat hdd and reinstall opensuse 11 with kontact->same problem So, i would like to now know where to look on the workstation for kontact error logs? /var/log/messages (i don't see anything in there)? I have also looked into the mail server logs for errors and found some java errors that happen around the same time of the error on the workstation. I restarted the mail server services and do not get that java error but still get the error on the workstation/kontact. I use zimbra 5.0.4 OSS as a mail server. I have asked over at their forums and they don't have an answer either. Is there anyone here who can help me find out how to fix this error? I really want to use kontact. [opensuse-factory] check for updates periodicity

On gnome under 11.0 I configured packagekit to check for updates weekly. But it still does on every boot. I rec'd a call from a sys. admin. out int he mid-west. He was looking to replace RH on a LARGE number of desktops AND servers, until he tried to install Antivir which has a dependency of dazuko. Now, if you want to be the "top dog" in the corporate world, you DON'T make it impossible or nearly so to run Antivir on openSUSE 11.0 by not allowing dazuko to run, nor be able to compile it. It appears to me and to MANY others that only one security module is allowed to run on openSUSE 11.0 and that is it's own AppArmor. Now, is all this correct or not?! IF not, then why did openSUSE 11.0 ship with a defective dazuko?! Antivir may not be critical for me, but it sure is for businesses of mixed environment. Someone had to know that this was defective before release. Reading through http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=473128 looks like - Debian already packages openal-soft like the official openal, without -soft suffix. - Upstream really considers openal-soft to be the "official" implementaion, deprecating the one from http://www.openal.org/ that still points to the old implementation just because nobody has updated the web page. home:lnussel:ioquake3 already has a package for openal-soft.
