[opensuse-factory] initrd from install cd

Hi All, I'm adding some modules to initrd from suse cd-install (suse 11 and the modules aren't in main kernel tree) and usually I take the initrd from cd-install, open it by zcat |cpio and add or swap the necessary modules and scripts to boot my brand new hardware (not released also) and rebuild it on cd image. But I want to build the initrd in the right way (if there is), with the sources and etc.. I've searched the wiki and google but only finded references to create initrd to a already installed system (mkinitrd). [opensuse-factory] / on NFS

Hello, Something to consider for 11.1. I just finished installing 11.0 in a situation, where / is on NFS. It went all right and completely smooth up to the point, where stage2 installation finished. Once YaST2 finished the last messages I have seen on the screen were: Shutting down network interfaces: eth0 Of course, the machine could not continue booting, as / was mounted on NFS. The same problem appears also when shutting down the machine. Could network interface shutdown be disabled if / on NFS is detected? Or is there any better solution for this problem? This works, I do a "zypper dup" and factory is updated. Fine :-) But there is a glitch: the prompt does not change: nimrodel:/ # I'd like to have a different prompt on that chrooted xterm, so that I don't confuse it with my "stable's" xterms. Is it possible? The command "hostname" returns "nimrodel", not the real name of factory (minas-morgul). I tried: nimrodel:/ # export HOSTNAME=minas-morgul hostname nimrodel:/ # which does not work. Anyway, I don't really need the hostname to change, the prompt would be enough. Do you know of a trick to do that? [opensuse-factory] YaST DNS Server: New RRs, New Features, New Bugs...

Hi, I'm currently working on huge changes in the YaST DNS Server Configuration, the most important features are: * New resource records: AAAA (IPv6), SRV, TXT * IPv6 reverse zones (possibly automatically generated) * More strict checking when creating or changing records * Checking whole zones for their completeness (NS, ...) * ... Is there anyone who would like to test these new features and maybe add their own ideas, comments, etc.? [opensuse-factory] May I make a small suggestion?

I don't know if any of you are aware of how very difficult it is to build gimp-gap-2.4.0 in the openSUSE environment? For a Debian environment, it didn't take too much, except compiling the latest libraries of GTK, Glib and Pango (etc) by hand ... and installing them one-by-one. This may be what is necessary on openSUSE, but, even still, the libraries that ship with the OS should be enough to compile it, right? I mean, it seems a little harder on openSUSE... For instance: the ./configure program will run and it will run completely, but there are several points during the make that it crashes, even after supposedly finding all of the dependencies that it deems necessary for the build. Libraries are not where they should be, header files are not where they should be. I've joined the comp.graphics.apps.gimp newsgroup on USENET, and the one person who replied simply said "it takes 5 hours of tedium, and I can't remember how I actually pulled it off." Well... considering GIMP's overall popularity, do you think someone back there could spend 5 hours creating a gimp-gap RPM to stick onto the 11.0 version? Just a thought. I would hate to think that my Windows environment could do something with a GTK+ based program that my Linux environment couldn't, without hassle. [opensuse-factory] Bugzilla: Changed Definitions

In the past, we at SUSE - and therefore now at Novell OPS BU - defined the severities in bugzilla in a way that is now different from nearly everybody else. We're standardizing now on the definitions given at http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs/Definitions. The severity definitions are now the same as in most other open source projects, so that we speak the same language and reduce confusion. The major changes we're doing are basically: * Severity Blocker means "Blocks development and/or testing work" * Severity Critical means "Crash, loss of data, corruption of data, severe memory leak" * We'd like to ask you to fill in the "Found by" field correctly, this will be "Beta-Customer" for openSUSE community members before a release and "Customer" if you file a bug after the release. * Novell will use internally both severity and priority for handling bug reports. We'd like you to use the changed severity definitions for every new bugreport that you are filing and also set the "Found by" field. Hi, Alpha1 is in the making, we're not yet ready what status we have as we had quite some build issues and so we lack any testable medium. So if everything is fine, we'll have it by thursday - if not, I let you know :) We changed the java we build the packages with to openjdk 1.6, which caused quite some problems. As I'll be out of office for two months (leaving after alpha1, returning after beta2), Christoph <ctiehl> and me are doing the current release together. [opensuse-factory] update-mirrors out of sync - please remove these hazardous sites from the list/redirectors

hi there, i just recently discovered that some older 10.2 box is completely out of sync as the updates/patches repository it got subscribed to during install time back then is only having patches from year 2007. this is total madness. somebody gotta keep this list clean and only distributing reliable and current mirrors. example is: <http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/suse/update/10.2/repodata/> (current) <http://ftp.tu-ilmenau.de/Mirrors/ftp.suse.com/update/10.2/repodata/> (way outdated) i even re-ran the yast online-update configuration and the novell initscript or whatever it was called (/usr/bin/suse_register ?) re-subscribed me to this lagging mirror several times over again :( argh. :( p.s. i somewhere read about zypper updates also coming to older suse systems. is there a way to profit from newer zypper updates on these older suse/opensuse systems that maybe newer zypper builds feature a better and more intelligent handling of repositories and being in-/outof-sync with the main suse sources. there has to be some sane way of getting rid of unreliable downloadlocations. thanks. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe(a)opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help(a)opensuse.org

Hi, I just came across another example where the current *-lang packaging doesn't really work out. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=410850 This shows that locales for packages which are not included in any bundle-lang-* package are either - not installed by default - installed while they probably don't provide the language the user installed for (depends just on the Requires settings of the main package). But the solver recognizes things like Provides: locale(BASEPACKAGE:AB;CD;...) So I wonder if the %lang_package macro could somehow be expanded to actually add such a Provides line automatically based on the packaged locales? Would that be possible and/or feasible?
