Networkmanager does not work, ifup does. install-Sources can be added, but not be saved..:-( so updating or whatsoever, is impossible. I will try if the sources can be added before the install starts, with ifup. (networkmanager did not connect at that time, and afterwards also not..) Grub entries for present 10.3 installs vanish, initrd gets overwritten by the new install. The same happens when 10.3 is installed again afterwards... (I had to start all over again because the repair system from 10.3 GM is broken (wellknown issue), and i had no other options present..) KDE4 special effects made the desktop invisible (all went black..), and there was nothing i could do about it, so i am going to reinstall with ifup, to see if the sources can be saved, for update, if not, well we see later.. ;-) - -- Have a nice day, M9. [opensuse-factory] 11.0 A2 won't install when NTFS file systems are present on sda and mounted as "/windows/C", etc

Hello all I can not install 11.0-Alpha2 on my T60 because the install process errors out if any NTFS file systems exist and are listed as mounted e.g. "/windows/C", "/windows/D" in the "Expert Partitioner" window. Please don't get me wrong I am as anti-MS as anyone. Hi! We have a meeting every two weeks to discuss larger changes to the distribution and I would you to keep you informed - even though I miss the time to do it every time ;( The people in there are from several R&D teams - desktop to security. So we had two "dist" meetings in january and will have one this week. The topics discussed are below. [2008-01-10] - harmonize system artwork (mili) * created an appliance with new branding * had to tweak many things * should be easy - just drop packages without signing (objection from rudi) * agreement to make it easier * two feature requests: - make it more structurable - create a yast module possibly - just someone needs to do it - who? AI: Mili will do it - sync packages between build service and factory * there are concerns with syncing build service to factory * autobuild team has no time to review the changes for security relevance * Someone _must_ to do a review, the Novell maintainer is responsible for that * We can't do automatic submissions from build service, review is required * We need to define a workflow for the review * build service package need to reviewed as if they come from an independent 3rd party source - lzma (ro) * coreutils submitted with lzma compression * lzma compresses slightly better, but adds yet another dependency * the possibility of having rpm payload with lzma * rejected unless rpm changes * base packages are still restricted to bzip and gzip (all/BASE/*) - changes to the debuginfo packages * remove requires from debuginfo -> no objections * split sources from debuginfo named -debugsource -> no objections * to be continued... [2008-01-24] - debuginfo (Jan) - packaging was topic last time - goal: reliable unwind info / backtrace - don't strip symtab and debug.frame - binary size will increase (no estimate possible) - for i386 it would be "severe" as for x86_64 - currently looking howto compress the sections - mono has similiar problems - but is not about strip AI jblunk: experiment with OOo and give back numbers - java 1.4 (from skh) - we're currently checking to be compatible with 1.4, this seems to be outdated - everyone is 1.5 compatible by now - _should_ be ok with 1.5 now - AI ro: check for 1.5 and no longer 1.4 - AI coolo: tell the java maintainers - changelog format (Thorsten) - changelogs that specify fate and bugzilla numbers need to specify fate#nnnnnn or bnc#nnnnnnn - all other numbers are ok if they are not fate or bnc entries - vendor locks for the solver - what the solver needs to do with packages not from suse? - conclusion: 10.3 behaviour is fine - shared library policy - the policy is not clear on the explicit package name - request: make the policy more strict AI matz: make the rules explicit (remember dots!) [opensuse-factory] Keyboard Layout settings changes are not taken into account correctly!

Hello all # Problem The Keyboard Layout settings which in my case is French (azerty) are not taken into account until very late in the installation process # Problem Details In the "Languages" window screen during the installation I selected Language = English(US) Keyboard Layout = French I see "Downloading language extension" message. In the "Installation Settings" window the section "Keyboard window" indicates French but the keyboard layout is still mode "querty" This is very annoying .... try making a custom partition setup when the keyboard configuration is set "querty" when you have a "azerty" key board - I can never remember where to look for "/" or "+" under "querty" settings. In the "Create New User" window, keyboard layout is still mode "querty" In the "Password for the System Administrator "root"" window the Layout settings are correct (in mode azerty). My tests show that the keyboard Layout settings changes made in the "Languages" window screen (which is the very first window one sees during the installation process) are not taken into until "Password for the System Administrator "root"" window. [opensuse-factory] openSUSE:Factory (i586) is broken atm

Hi, OBS packagers might notice seg faults when the build enviroment gets setup since 1 or 2 days. I first thought these are broken build hosts, but a second look tells me that this seems to be a problem within the distribution. This bug is only visible for i586 in the OBS (since only i586 build does reuse its packages), but the bug itself may also exist for the other architectures. So I would not update to Factory currently, if you like to mount your filesystems ;) Unfortunatly, I can not debug or workaround this from here (secret place where I stay atm ;). So this will not be fixed before tomorrow ... OBS packagers, please ignore the problem for now, we will most likely need to trigger anyway a complete rebuild when fixing this problem. The problem is that the mount command itself is segfaulting when trying to enable the write mode in the FS. Since this fails, no build can work. Hello all I installed 11.0-Alpha2 on my T60 Thinkpad and my PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network card doesn't work (when I try to set it up during the installation or post install) because the kernel device is not present # Details when I try to configure the card using YaST > Network Devices > Network Card it shows my ethernet card (which works fine) and PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network connection which cannot be configured .... Hi! Factory users of KDE will have noticed: yast is green now. I meant this theming only for installation (it was derived from "Pimp up my installer" mockup) and I still think it's not the best of ideas to have theming everywhere. So I see pros of theming: - people connect yast and installer (when using KDE) - it gives yast an extraordinary look and cons: - it's slightly (on nv driver even dramatically) slower - it does not adapt to the desktop's style and won't ever - it gives yast an extraordinary look Do you see more on either side? openSUSE 11.0A2 from DVD created from delta iso Just tried to upgrade an 11.0 alpha 1 virtualbox install to alpha 2 and it completely skipped installing *any* packages. Looks like a rather serious bug to me. Upon login it shows: uname -a Linux openSUSE11A1 2.6.24-rc7-git5-2-default #1 SMP 2008/01/13 20:45:43 UTC i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux Installing fresh on "real" iron seems to be going as expected.
