I had to remove the SLES 11 ISOs from my site because the bandwidth bill has trippled in the past month since they have been posted. So now I am only providing the SLED 11 beta for download, but have provided instructions on how do obtain the downloads directly from Novell. Sorry for the inconvenience. As it turns out, all help was useful no more than indirectly, by keeping me motivated and thinking. The defect is obviously in some component of the 11.0 installation program. I got it to HTTP install from the "bad" DVD by doing everything the same as previously reported except for one thing: By doing all partitioning and formatting prior to letting the YaST2 GUI installation take over (before accepting the license agreement), everything went smoothly, just like a normal i386 installation. I did the partitioning with pdisk by using the 10.3 install on the original target HD as a map to what partitions are required, then the command line mkfs.ext3, mkswap & tune2fs tools. I've rebooted subsequent to the first boot and configuration cleanup. It's now in the middle of online updating, just like on a P4. :-) This is the error messages onscreen after the last failed attempt: *** Starting YaST2 *** error: cannot open Packages index using db3 - No such file or directory (2) terminate called after throwing an instance of 'zypp: Exception' what (): Cannot open file /etc/zypp/locks YaST got signal 6 at YCP /mounts/MP_0001/usr/share/YaST2/clients/inst_packages.ycp:49 /usr/lib/YaST2/startup/YaST2.call: line 480: 2459 Aborted (core dumped) $OPT_FBITERM y2base "$Y2_MODULE_NAME" $Y2_MODE_FLAGS $Y2_MODULE_ARGS &Y2_UI_ARGS *** An error occurred during the installation *** This is the error messages from media self test of the DVD, similar to that of the mini CDs, in reporting _DVD_ failure: > 5 openSUSE-DVD-11.0, 100% *** Checksum wrong. I think the current setup is perfect: /distribution for released products (incl released betas) and /factory for the development branch / factory. It's two different sets... out of Factory are the Betas created; but the betas are almost never identical to any random state of Factory. Hi, I'm trying to get Xen running on an Intel Core2Duo machine with no luck. This is on a plain Beta2 386 install. It crashes really fast in the boot procedure. Any ideaa where to start debugging such an issue? [opensuse-factory] Using ntfs-3g for /sbin/mount.ntfs

Hi, I'm updating the ntfs-3g package, and I wonder if it's fine to do ln -s /sbin/mount.ntfs-3g /sbin/mount.ntfs This should help fix various issues with NTFS auto-mounting (in addition to the hal .fdi file). Upstream mentions this fix is okay, and other distributions do the same. As far as I know, no other package in openSUSE ships /sbin/mount.ntfs, so there wouldn't be any conflict. Hey, who can tell me, if that behavior is wanted: The package rudiments-devel-0.31-5.1.i586.rpm refers in his (config) file "/usr/lib/gcc/i586-suse-linux/4.3/../../..//librudiments.la" to the file "/usr/lib/libstdc++.la", which is not included in the libstdc++-devel or the compat-libstdc++ (and possibly not part of the OpenSUSE distribution). The basis is a OpenSUSE 11.0 system. Hello, I'm testing factory PPC right now, and ran into a problem. The driver update I prepared for 11.0 does not seem to work on current factory.
