[opensuse-factory] High number of serious bugs in GNOME

Hello everyone, during a discussion on IRC it emerged that GNOME still has a very high number of blockers and critical bugs. As it can be seen here: https://bugzilla.novell.com/report.cgi?x_axis_field=&y_axis_field=component… GNOME + Evolution has 26 of them. Plus, from bugzilla it appears that GNOME + GNOME Admin/Platform + Evolution have 201 bugs: https://bugzilla.novell.com/report.cgi?x_axis_field=&y_axis_field=component… Considering the short time before the final release (~1 month), I think it would be helpful to know the actual situation of the fixes, and if there's enough time to solve all these issues before the release date. Preface: ... a bit late and short due to Beta3 preparations, but still on time (it's still Tuesday ;)) status report: openSUSE distribution, week 36 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - 10.3 Beta3: first internal test build from today looks promising. Will hopefully only need minor tweaks tomorrow. Public release is scheduled for Thursday (2007-09-06). - autobuild status: 8 failing packages on i386, 7 on x86_64, 25 on ppc. - bug count down from last week: 14 blockers, 90 critical. * bug review pending after Beta3 is out * if there is anything <critical that needs attention, make sure to set NEEDINFO to cthiel or coolo, to get it onto our radar. - the team made very good progress on libzypp / package management last week! - bundle-lang situation improved -- not completly solved for Beta3 (check out #302270 for details) - current focus for Beta3: * bundle-lang and friends * patterns / media layout * LiveCD * libzypp Is there anything missing? So we can create the next great thing call pin-install ... meaning base on the pin info after locating the package which is missing and trigger the install ? [opensuse-factory] GNOME: Pidgin, sane defaults

Hello all, I've been talking to some people about the Pidgin defaults and we agreed that the upstream defaults are not really sane. We have an opportunity to get this patched with sane settings. Apart from https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=304635, does anyone have any other suggestions on what defaults we should have? [opensuse-factory] Can't add Full-Qualified-Hostname to hosts file using yast2

Hello In the "/etc/hosts" file on opensuse 10.2, I have the "Full-Qualified-Hostname" on my machine in like this: # IP-Address Full-Qualified-Hostname Short-Hostname 127.0.0.2 my_hostname.my_dns my_hostname This was not the case with 10.3 after I installed it - so I tried to add it (for reasons I won't go into here). I can add a Full-Qualified-Hostname (in the form of the line above) manually via the command line but I can't using yast2 by running "DNS and Hostname" with the "Change Hostname via DHCP" and "Write to Hostname to /etc/hosts" options selected. This procedure works on 10.2 Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong here? My problem is that after logon, opening a shell (gnome-terminal in my case) pops up some errors about /dev/null permission denied. Hi,there, I installed opensuse10.3beta2 to a dmraid (raid1)function machine, At the end of installation, the yast can not create initrd and install bootloader. Because the creating initrd missed 70-kpartx.rule file, the mkinitrd is failed. Can we fix the bug in the beta3? Hey Group; The KDE "user" SuSE Updater seems to be broken. Every rime KDE comes up it does also. It checks online and then shows a circled "?". Click on it and up comes a error message stating "openSUSE Updater -> " Unable to check if updates are available". Beside it never works and suggests -> Please use Add/Remove Update Sources". Preface: We are trying out a new way to spread status reports on the openSUSE distribution, infrastructure and other topics around openSUSE. They are supposed to help facilicate the openSUSE bi-weekly IRC status meeting (scheduled for tomorrow, 2007-08-29, 6pm CEST). As this is the first attempt, we are looking forward to your feedback and suggestions for improvements! status report: openSUSE distribution, week 35 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - 10.3 Beta2 released in time on 2007-08-23, overall feedback quite mixed, there is still a lot of room for improvement * hot spots: libzypp, dist upgrade, bootloader config, hal, bundle-lang / translation handling, patterns / cd/package layout. - no LiveCD for Beta2, due to time constraints * Beta3 will hopefully ship a LiveCD from day 0 - a couple of late version updates got approved this week, including MozillaFirefox, MozillaThunderbird, seamonkey, wine, samba, bluez-libs. * upgrading a package at this time in the release cycle is going to be very unlikely now. - we are currently preparing for an internal test build, scheduled for 2007-08-29, to get another round of testing for libzypp - way to many open red bugs: 31 blocker, 103 critical * will need to review the critical bugs * if there is anything <critical that needs attention, make sure to set NEEDINFO to cthiel or coolo, to get it onto our radar. - current focus for Beta3: * bundle-lang and friends (translations, l10n) + a proposal on the language addons is coming up tomorrow * patterns / media layout * LiveCD * libzypp Is there anything missing? That is smp kernel and perfectly fits your machine. The sources have to match running kernel, and than nvidia installation will not complain. Although someone removed advice for; cd /usr/src/linux make oldconfig make prepare from article http://en.opensuse.org/NVIDIA in my experience, nvidia installer will not work without at least first 2 lines, ie, changing working directory to /usr/src/linux and than copy of current configuration: cd /usr/src/linux make oldconfig the only line that last version of nvidia installer didn't really needed was 'make prepare' . I added that too, just to make sure that every possible effort is made to have all bits ready.
