[opensuse-factory] 10.3 Alpha3plus x86_64 memory allocation problems with 32-bit progs

On a new box I'm preparing for someone, I did a fresh install of 10.3Alpha3 and applied factory updates just yesterday. The problem is to do with 32-bit programs, like stuff under crossover office and GooglePicasa, both of which are needed by the owner of the box. These run fine on my x86_64 laptop also with 10.3Alpha3plus, so I'm guessing there is a compat package(s) not installed. I installed an extra GB Ram, (befrore I had 512) and noticed that Ram consumption during upgrading, on a running system, is 732MB. (total usage) Saying that 512 MB of Ram, is too less. Both x86 and x86_64 installations fail quite a ways into CD2. Donn Washburn and I have seen this problem. The CD verifies fine. On one x86_64 box I installed 10.2 and upgraded OK to 10.3 Alpha3 using the same CD's. [opensuse-factory] blurry k-menu icons (10.3 Alpha3)

I have just installed and updated the latest openSUSE development release, so now am running 10.3 Alpha3plus. I have to say that it's faster than 10.2, however the icons on the k-menu are a bit ugly for my taste... they are small and many of them are blurry.. I prefer openSUSE 10.2's k-menu. Anyway, is there a way to make them bigger? I would suggest to make the icons a little bit bigger as they were in 10.2. Hi, I am a relatively new openSuSE user (since December 2006) and I am primarily a KDE user, though I dabble a bit with GNOME ever now and then. I've been using Linux for some years now and I must say that I was very impressed with openSuSE's KDE. It was very easy to set up and by just adding packman and suser-guru I was in business. After a little while I figured I'd give GNOME a shot. It looked very nice and polished from the screenshots I'd seen. I am also a huge fan of tango. After a few days of playing with GNOME I had encountered so many annoyances that I decided to switch back to KDE. But I wanted to express my grievances. First, out of the box the fonts are horrible. Why are they so ugly by default in GNOME but nice in KDE? It's very easy to set this up in GNOME but what about newbies and businesses that don't want to spend the time doing all of this? Second, multimedia support is abysmal. I followed several wikis and tried helix-banshee but banshee just wouldn't work properly. Now I think it's important that if I don't have mp3 support out of the box that it's relatively easy to obtain. After I struggled through segfault after segfault I decided that I would never get banshee working properly. So my question is why isn't there an option to get a fully functioning banshee that works (not helix-banshee) like the amarok version in packman? Also I don't want RealPlayer on my laptop ... no thanks! Third, beagle integration and SLAB are very bad. Again the beagle integration in KDE is terrific and kickoff works wonderfully but beagle in GNOME and SLAB are just horrendous. Why is SLAB such a hog? Why is beagle more of a hog in GNOME than KDE? This is just a few of my grievances. Of course ZMD was a pain but I know that is no longer going to be installed by default. I'm just wondering where the love for GNOME is? I have to admit that if I really wanted a nice GNOME distro I'd be choosing another distro (Ubuntu). Thanks for listening and I hope that openSuSE can make as wonderful of a GNOME version in the future as their KDE version is. You guys do great work! Hello, I think it would spare many users a lot of annoyance if updates went a little more quickly and silently. I can just about understand that any time I want to install a package, YaST refreshed all installation-sources (though this is also debateable - wouldn't one update a day suffice?); but if the opensuse-updater (or zen-udpater) has recently reported an updateable package, why does YaST have to check the installation-source again?
