Hola opensuse users! (and yast hackers) If you're using YaST ncurses interface, you might have already noticed that currently there is no support for tab widgets there (i.e. ncurses equivalent of Qt TabBar, see some screenshots here: http://doc.trolltech.com/4.2/qtabwidget.html#details ). Instead, quite a clumsy workaround with push buttons or radio buttons is used in some modules I'm looking for someone who would write tab support for yast2-ncurses library, in other words, add a C++ class for tab widget into YaST ncurses UI. Ideally, I'd like it to be someone from openSUSE community :) With current mod-ui (which is a new UI engine in openSUSE 11) it could be pretty simple and straightforward. You don't need to know anything about ncurses programming (actually, you'll see none, or the very minimum of libncurses code when coding the class). What you really need is: * knowledge object-oriented programming in C++ * at least some awareness about UI events and event handlers So if you are e.g. an university student looking for simple C/C++ assignment (that you could 'recycle' at school ;-) ), or if you're looking for a way how to spend your ITO, or if you just want to help to improve your favourite UI ;-) just drop me an e-mail ev. ping me on freenode IRC #yast channel. [opensuse-factory] Bugzilla Tutorial for testers

Hi list, When I uncover what I suspect to be a bug, I search both the factory mailing list and Bugzilla for the occurrence of a likely keyword. More often than not my searches are unsuccessful, so based on my own level of confidence that I may have found a genuine bug, I will either post a query on the mailing list or open a bug report. The following are not uncommon responses:- 1. Already reported see bug#...... 2. Just open a bug report and don't bother to post on the list. 3. Suggest a workaround, which while often helpful, defeats the purpose of testing. Occasionally some well meaning person will even give what proves to be the wrong advise. Now in the interest of not wasting anybody's time, including my own, I would like to suggest that all testers, including volunteers, be given access to Novell's Bugzilla tutorials. This course of action may lead to an improvement in the quality of bug reports with fewer duplicates and quicker resolution not to mention a significant reduction in traffic on the factory mailing list. [opensuse-factory] Alpha DVD installation woes

I've recently installed the Alpha DVD iso for 11.0 and encountered serveral problems. Took darn near 50 hours to get the DVD downloaded via bittorrent. Wonder if others have experienced it as well? An overview first: This is a Dell SC420 PowerEdge Server box. It has both an onboard Intel e7221 video card and NVidia 7300 GS videocard. 750GB SATA drive, 2GB RAM, a sound card, scsi card (unused), It is set up to tri-boot with Alpha/10.3/SLES 10SP1. All are new installs. Previously, it was used as a SLES server. 1) The very first problem encountered, sax2 wouldn't start. At this time, I was hooked up to the onboard video card. The 10.3 install also encountered the same problem. When I did the install again with the Nvidia card installed, sax2 issues went away. Only SLES would start up with Intel. Looks like Intel e7221 is unsupported in 10.3 and above. A bug has been filed talking about this issue. 2) During the yast install process, I could not click on options when proposal screens came up. For example, when it came up with "Partitioning, Software, Locale", I could not click on those options. But I could change the options by selecting the "Change" button at the bottom. 3) SLES and 10.3, yast detected the sound card. Alpha yast says sound card is 'nil'. 4) All three detect the onboard gigabit NIC. However, Alpha leaves it as unconfigured/unused, even though I have set it to use DHCP. As a consequence, presently, I am unable to go out and get any updates that might fix the problem. [opensuse-factory] Checking dependencies using YAST

>From time to time I use YAST to update (10.3 AMD 64). I also have the problem that the connection sometimes goes bad half way the update process. By then YAST has already installed/updated certain components (applied diff RPMs). My question is if it is possible for YAST to re-check every package and ensure that all the missing dependencies are installed and if not to reinstall the missing dependencies. Currently I have the feeling that certain dependencies are not present and the box locks up. If I would know which ones are missing I could do a forced reinstall...
