Hi, I have a nice new Asus P5B mainboard (please, no chastising me for choosing a board from a Linux-hostile vendor) that is, for the most part, running 10.2a5 successfully. However, that's so only because I had the brilliant, though completely serendipitous, idea to put one IDE optical drive and one SATA optical drive in my system. Fortunately, the SATA drive made installation possible while the JMicron-controlled IDE/ATA bus with its lonely optical drive remains shut out. And that is the subject my question. How do I get access to the IDE bus? My on-line research indicates that the 2.6.18 kernel should be able to access this device (see the very long thread in the Ubuntu bug forum at <https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.17/+bug/57502> and the Linux kernel commit log entry at <http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=comm…>). Apparently there was a bug in an earlier kernel that rendered the JMicron controller inaccessible when it was paired with the Intel P965 chipset (which itself includes no legacy IDE support at all, only SATA). [opensuse-factory] sound skips

Hello, I have recently compiled and installed libxine, so I can play mp3 files on Amarok. Both Amarok and Kaffeine now play mp3 files. However, the sound skips using any of them. If I play video, same thing. I suspect it has something to do with arts. When I'm playing Enemy Territory there's no sound skipping. If I go to YAST -> Hardware -> Sound -> Edit, it says Sound Card Advanced Options and below "AC97 workaround for strange hardware" Any hints? Thanks! The capability module is loaded, ntpd is still running though /var/log/ntp.log says it's exited. I also removed the drift file and there is a new one = 0.000, yet the time has drifted. 10.1/10.2Alpha4 both affected. Hello, I have upgraded my laptop to openSUSE 10.2 (i586) Alpha5plus and now kmix says "mixer cannot be found". It was working okay on openSUSE 10.2 Alpha 4. The test music is played successfully (YAST->sound->other->volume->test). I'm not sure if this is a KDE bug or an openSUSE bug. Cheers

[opensuse-factory] SPAM: 10.2 Gnome start menu - where is the search?

10.2 Alpha 5 is the first time I have used the new start menu in Gnome. After using Vista for work everyday I really miss the menu search function. But then from seeing screenshots of SLED I realised that it has the search box. Is the missing search box a bug in openSUSE? Some other things: 1. I would really like to be able to resize it and thereby change the number of items that are displayed. 2. Hi List, in my Alpha5 installation, DVDs and CDs don't get automounted anymore when inserting them in the drive. Where can I have a look at? Or is this already a known bug/feature?
