[opensuse-factory] unable to configure X

With 10.2 alpha 5, I'm completely unable to configure X. When sax starts up, I get "out of range" error on the monitor and have to ctrl-alt-bksp. sax2 -l from the command line is unusable because not enough of the screen shows to be able to make selections. I was eventually able to get sax to run by "sax2 -V 0:1280x1024@60", but still couldn't come up with a combination that would produce any output when the test runs, even by specifying the frequencies from the monitor's spec sheet. This is with ATI RV250 card and Benq FP731 LDC monitor (which was auto-detected). [opensuse-factory] Yast->Hardware->Printer crashes

Hi - I am running alpha5 on x86_64 (dell 690). At the last stage of install the printer configuration crashed and then the install stopped and put me straight into kdm. I then tried yast2->Hardware->printer and as soon as the printer window opened it crashed. Presumably this can be worked around for now by pointing my browser at localhost:631, but I haven't tried except to verify that cups is listening at that url. I haven't tried alpha4, so I don't know if the problem exists there also. On another topic, whenever I log in a message box comes up that says DBUS is not running, however DBUS is running. Other than that the new KDE desktop is awsome! [opensuse-factory] no hard disks were found for the installation

This is from HTTP network install begun with yesterday's boot.iso on i440BX PIII system. Error happens shortly after it asks to install USB module. There are two HDs it should find, which the Ubuntu beta installer does find, and Knoppix 4.0.2 finds, and the 10.0 boot.iso network installer finds. Then it proceeds to "creating source", during which the system eventually just ceases to do anything or respond to mouse. [opensuse-factory] [RFC] kernel IP configuration: promote_secondaries default setting

Hi, /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/*/promote_secondaries is currently set to 0 by default. Changing that to 1 would be a user-visible change for users with multiple ip addresses on one interface, but the changed behaviour is IMO less surprising than the current one. Description for promote_secondaries: Deleting the primary IP address of an interface forces deletion all secondary IP addresses unless promote_secondaries is set. This side effect of killing all secondary addresses without warning (and without documentation about this behaviour) has caused me and lots of others quite some grief. Scenario: You are logged into a remote box on one of its secondary IP addresses (to be able to change the primary IP address without disrupting your work), delete the primary IP address to later add the new primary IP address and suddenly find out that the secondary IP address you were using for administration has vanished. No way to connect to the box (it has no IP address anymore), so you have to ask someone to flip the power switch and hope it works with the old config after reboot. If promote_secondaries had been set, the disaster would not have happened. Hello, Saw this link today: http://linux.wordpress.com/2006/09/27/suse-102-ditching-reiserfs-as-it-defa… I don't recall seeing anything about OpenSuSE 10.2 ditching reiserfs. Was that on a different mailing list? My 2 cents: I like reiserfs. For performance reasons, I don't think it's a good idea to have a clustered filesystem for the root filesystem. Can someone point me to wherever the discussion about this took place? Users of SL10.2 Alpha4 could notice that pinentry dialog changed a little bit. Defaultly hardcoded pinentry-qt was removed and for while pinentry-gtk-2 was used. You could notice it when KMail ask you for passphrase for gpg key for example. pinentry use now script which choose which version of dialog will be used.
