Factory & y2pmsh: fetching <package> - ERROR(Media:file not found)

Hello, I tried the Factory tree and using y2pmsh I get for several packages such messages: fetching suse-release (4.4 kB) *** failed: ERROR(Media:file not found)[HTTP return code: 404 (URL: http://ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source/su…) fetching yast2-bootfloppy (69.2 kB) *** failed: ERROR(Media:file not found)[HTTP return code: 404 (URL: http://ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source/su…) fetching susehelp_de (27.3 kB) *** failed: ERROR(Media:file not found)[HTTP return code: 404 (URL: http://ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source/su…) Is it normal for Factory that the avilable *rpm and the package data used by y2pmsh mismatch? Auto detection screen-resolution for install

At this moment you can, in the install-bootscreen, select what resolution you want to use. As being a 'not total-noob' I know that I have to select the proper resolution for my screen. But I guess new users don't see that option and they end up with an install-screen that is to small (or deformed) and does have a refreshrate less then 60. We have to fix that problem, and there are a few options (maybe more then 2?): 1.) Auto-detection, don't know i that is possible but I assume so. 2.) A 'pop-up' question so people will set the proper resolution. 3.) Use 1024x768 as default. Most people will have a minimum resolution like that allready, but it would still not be 'the end' and 'final solution' /me is checking SUSE Linux as a noob ATM and things like this are not noob-friendly. ps. cannot test if setup auto-detects cause of a bug that is allready reported. >> https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=157376 But seeing that option makes me assume it does not. Having a touchpad and a trackball - only on set-up

It's me (again), Once I had a laptop and installed SUSE Linux 10.0. I used a trackball but it had also a touchpad. As being a left-handed user I tried to change the settings to 'left-handed'. Problem was that only one of the two (dont know which one) was set-up as being 'left-handed', the other was still 'right-handed'. Could someone check this in SUSE Linux 10.1? I do not have a laptop anymore. Things to check: 1.) Can you configure the touchpad and trackball seperated? 2.) If not (would be not so fine), is the change of settings applied to both of the devices? If not, we probably need a bugreport.... Azerion

How to write the log to harddisk while installing?

Hey, as noob-tester I have an old computer with old hardware (seems to be related). While installing beta6 there were some problems, but some of them makes the PC hang or stop the process before everything that is needed for typing into root-console F2 is loaded/set. This makes that I have to write the log directly to the harddisk so it won't be erased by reboot. Asked in IRC but there is everybody sleeping, and could not find it on the net. 2 major problems that makes my PC hang or makes the install hang are: 1.) have to use VESA-mode otherwise PC hangs right after setting the yast-collums cuase thre probably are to much of them (screen blank, keyboard locked) 2.) network install makes yast hang with the error >> end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0 Can't find those bugs in bugzilla but need logs before I really can search and post if they not exist yet. gcc 3.x compatibility package

Hi there, does anybody know of a compatibility package of gcc version 3.x for Suse 10.x ? I've looked into the opensuse repositories but only found a compat-g77 package. Is there something similar for the C compiler? I need this for an older program which doesn't compile with gcc 4.x. Greetings Jens Siebert

Releasesnotes before hardware Configuration

Could someone tell me why the releasesnotes are shown before the hardware-configuration? I always thought that release-notes where shown at the end. Can it be replaced or does it have a function in this order? Azerion

No LDAP browser?

I see that gq has been dropped. And luma hasn't been added. So, how does one browse a LDAP server? I don't know the syntax of ldap:/ kio slave in Konqueror. Can anyone help with that?

Hi, for 10.0 syslog for my new PC says: "forcedeth.c: Reverse Engineered nForce ethernet driver..." Is it expected that these reverse engineered drivers are absent in 10.1 for legal reasons? Regards, Ulrich

Adding Factory Repo using rug

I'm having trouble add the service using rug. I'm assuming that I have to use YUM since YAST is not listed as available service type doing "rug st" any help would be great! By the way doing a local net install via NFS worked great! Dave
