Tumbleweed - Review of the week 2021/47

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers, Winter has come – at least that’s what I heard some colleagues talk about these days. Luckily, for me, there is no snow out yet and Tumbleweed has sufficient grip to roll ahead without getting stuck. As such, we have published 7 snapshots this week (1118…1124). The main changes published as part of those snapshots were: * Linux kernel 5.15.2 & 5.15.3 * Mesa 21.3.0 * Node.JS 16.13.0 * Firewalld 1.0.2 * php 7.4.26 * util-linux 2.37.2 * cURL 7.80.0 * git 2.34.0 * systemd 249.7 * icu 70.1 * Rust 1.56.1 * tbb 2021.4.0 That’s quite a big bunch of what was in the stagings over the last few days/weeks. Some things are still left, and other new stuff has landed for testing: * Linux kernel 5.15.5 * Mozilla Firefox 94.0.2 * Virtualbox 6.1.30 * Poppler 21.11.0 * Automake 1.16.5: strict on not calling twice AM_AUTOMAKE_INIT in configure.ac * GCC 11: Enable the full cross compiler, cross-aarch64-gcc11 and cross-riscv64-gcc11 now provide a fully hosted C (and C++) cross compiler, not just a freestanding one * cmake 3.22.0 * Moving default php version from php7 to php8 * pipewire 0.3.40, with a move to from pipewire-media-session to wireplumber; currently failing openQA * Bash: moving away from update-alternatives to handle /bin/sh; To allow busybox to step in as ‘sh’ provider. We are switching to a package replacement model (e.g. bash-sh, busybox-sh). Those packages will install the relevant /bin/sh symlinks * openSSL 3.0: No visible progress in the staging. Main blockers so far seems to be python 3.6 and python-cryptography

openSUSE:Factory - Build fail notification

Dear Package maintainers and hackers. Below package(s) in openSUSE:Factory have been failing to build for at least 4 weeks. We tried to send out notifications to the configured bugowner/maintainers of the package(s), but so far no fix has been submitted. This probably means that the maintainer/bugowner did not yet find the time to look into the matter and he/she would certainly appreciate help to get this sorted. - python-neutronclient Unless somebody is stepping up and submitting fixes, the listed package(s) are going to be removed from openSUSE:Factory. libldap2 - advice/review needed for update to OpenLDAP 2.6.0

HI! OpenLDAP 2.6.0+ installs its libldap and liblber like this: /usr/lib64/libldap.so.2.0.200 /usr/lib64/liblber.so.2.0.200 Following the policy in [1] (and advice of an upstream dev) it seems to be the right approach to call the library package now 'libldap2'. Is this correct? But what about all the dependencies on package 'libldap'? I've prepared 2.6 packages for my own needs which seem to work and install besides libldap-2_4-2. Would you please review this package (see [2])? I will then prepare 2.6.0 for Tumbleweed (including an important backport fix for ITS#9753 [3]). Thanks in advance. Ciao, Michael. There are many issues with lftp_wrapper, in addition to the low code quality and the fact that it has no real upstream: * Customers are reporting bugs: bsc#974874, bsc#1178363. * It has no manual page ("man ftp" displays the lftp manual page, despite both having different command line options). * Some command line options are not actually implemented, or only work in specific cases. * It was only designed for non-interactive use, but this is only mentioned in the source code. As a result, customers are not aware of that limitation, and use the wrapper also interactively, or pseudo-interactively, and complain when it doesn't work. This commit moves it to become the very first processing instruction such that the included data is part of all subsequent XSLT stylesheets. This also allows to use older schema versions in included XML data and they get automatically converted through the chain of XSLT stylesheets. Last change is the evaluation of the from= attribute value. This value is now interpreted as an URI. Currently only local URIs are supported. The reason to do this is because XSLT when processing a document resolves relative paths according to the file path of the master document. As kiwi does not change the original content that path with will be a /var/tmp location if one of the XSLT stylesheets were used. If kiwi is called on an already existing root tree via --allow-existing-root this will make debootstrap to fail in any case. This is because for debootstrap it's an error condition if there is already data in the root. However, for kiwi and the explicitly requested re-use of the root tree this is not an error. Thus this commit skips the bootstrap by debootstrap and directly continues with the image phase. - Cleanup xattr requirement There is no version of suse we support that provides the old xattr module. Thus the requirement can be set in a clean way to pyxattr and the setup.py trickery can be deleted - Disable config functions testing It happens too often that the failure on running the container causes failed results which are not actually failures. I have hope that #1944 stabilize this - Bump version: 9.24.1 ? 9.24.2 - Fixed nasty bug in ramdisk generator The ramdisk unit generator reads the config.bootoptions file and extracts the root_uuid from it. This is done with a very simple shell read using a space as separator. However the last element is never read by that code. As long as there was yet another kernel cmdline option after the root= option this bug was not an issue. But as soon as the root= option is last in the list it will not be read and the generator exits prior creating the sysroot.mount target. In any of these situations it was not possible to free up the nested resources and it could also happen that the image build result got corrupted because there is still data that can be consumed but shouldn't be there anymore. The change here makes kiwi to stop the process and raise with an error also including the information that there are now resources still active but busy on the host and a manual cleanup is unfortunately needed. This Fixes #1914 - Added SystemOverlayRoot profile Test kiwi's overlayroot mode without initrd - Update test for image without initrd and loader The systemd-remount-fs.service expects devices to be present in their UUID representation. When booting without an initrd there is no udev and the root= device must be provided with the kernel exposed unix device name. In addition there is no UUID device representation for virtio devices which are used together with the small kvmsmall kernel of this example. Weird zypper behaviour

Hi, On one of my VMs, running a server installation of Leap 15.3, I always get the following error: # zypper ref repo-backports-update Repository 'Update repository of openSUSE Backports' is up to date. Building repository 'Update repository of openSUSE Backports' cache ..............................[error] Error building the cache: [|] Failed to cache repo (137). History: - Skipping repository 'Update repository of openSUSE Backports' because of the above error. Could not refresh the repositories because of errors. I don't understand what the underlying problem is. This repository is the only one that's affected, the other 5 standard repositories have their caches built without issue. I also have several other VMs with a similar configuration, but none of them exhibit this error. Neither "zypper clean" nor "rm -rf /var/cache/zypp/" helps. Some more details: # rpm -qf /etc/zypp/repos.d/repo-backports-update.repo openSUSE-release-15.3-lp1532.157.1.x86_64 # rpm -V zypper libzypp openSUSE-release S.5....T. c /etc/YaST2/control.xml Here's the strace output of the failing command: https://paste.opensuse.org/14766400 I would very much appreciate if someone with knowledge of how zypper works could take a look and explain what's going on.
