Since SR#508773 two packages provide openmpi-runtime-config. As a result packages are in state "unresolvable: have choice for openmpi-runtime-config needed by openmpi: openmpi2-config openmpi-config". Please adjust the global prjconf, add a "Prefer: whatever". Thanks. Olaf

On Leap 42.3, should qemu-2.9.0-30.1.x86_64 contain the qemu command? It contains the qemu man page. If it is not supposed to be in that RPM, where is it? (Apologies for the cross posting, please do not reply to this post in EITHER list, all feedback should be sent directly to board(a)opensuse.org) Dear Community, On both the opensuse@ and opensuse-factory@ mailinglists we've had a recent uptick in off-topic discussions which often took a very contentious tone and nature. The Board have extensively reviewed the recent threads, and we would like to thank the vast majority of the community who dealt with these threads in a largely constructive way, even when individuals disagreed on the finer points being discussed. That said, there were a pair of individuals who repeatedly breached our Projects Guiding Principles throughout these discussions and ignored repeated warnings and guidance to try and encourage them to correct their tone and/or behaviour. Their failure to listen to both Board members & (equally importantly) the wider community can be seen to be a direct cause of the worst and most uncomfortable parts of the recent discussions. Upon reviewing the recent threads, the Board has taken the exceptional, and unanimous, decision to permanently ban those two people from the openSUSE mailinglists. The Board has taken this action with the aim of ensuring our lists are a healthy environment for discussion, which was not possible with these individuals inability to adhere to our Projects guiding principles. The individuals involved have been contacted directly. They will not be named by the Board in the interest of respecting their privacy & potential future interactions with other open source communities. This is not an attempt to moderate either of these lists of squelch discussion which we (the Board, or the Project) disagree with. Just as unanimously as the Board decided to take this action, the Board was equally unanimous in it's decision to not punish, sanction, or otherwise moderate any other individuals or lists as a whole. There is no intention to shutdown opensuse(a)opensuse.org or any other active openSUSE mailinglist. The Board is hopeful that without these two individuals bringing their unwelcome communication style to the lists, all openSUSE mailinglists have a better chance to fulfil their intended roles in the Project. opensuse(a)opensuse.org is the intended support mailinglist of the Project. Anyone with a problem, especially novices, should feel welcome to ask any question (especially technical ones) and should have a reasonable expectation of getting meaningful and helpful answers. It is not a mailinglist for debating the direction of the openSUSE Project as a whole or of specific technologies which openSUSE is heavily invested in. opensuse-factory(a)opensuse.org is the primary technical mailinglist of the Project. Technical discussions between contributors about the development of Tumbleweed & Leap are expected to happen here, if no more relevant list already exists for them. Requests from non-contributors are not unwelcome, but it should be recognised that repeating the same request for years is not likely to persuade a change of mindset. At some point people need to accept that some things are the way that they are, and they will stay that way until someone contributes a change. For example, that is the state where we are with systemd. It's removal from the distribution or the addition of alternatives has been requested repeatedly, and yet no openSUSE contributor has done anything in this area. Until we see contributions in this area the Board feels it is pointless for people to request otherwise, and respectfully request that no one on any of our mailinglists requests the removal of systemd or the addition of alternative init systems. But we also want to make clear that this request, and our recent actions, are not the start of heavy handed moderation of our mailinglists. We want these lists to be largely self-moderated with common sense being applied. Newcomers are going to post off-topic stuff, either in the wrong list or sometimes totally off-topic to the entire Project. Even established mailinglist posters are human and will make mistakes from time to time. [opensuse-factory] Firefox new upgrades for current Opensuse versions - now sticking to ESR?

Hello list, in the past Firefox amonst some other select projects or applications kind of got upgrades instead of mere updates. Today or on the updates list I see that Firefox 52 becomes into 52.1.x ESR instead of 53. Is this an intentional change of procedure from the past? How come and where and how has this been discussed and decided. Would like to know and understand more of these kind of things. Today's Tumbleweed snapshot 20170723 provides Firefox ESR 52.2.1, instead of version 54.0.1. Since Firefox 55 is scheduled to be released in the beginning of August, I would like to ask whether Tumbleweed will stick to ESR or follow upstream releases in the future. Hello I finally managed to get VMware-Workstation up and running on openSUSE 42.3* by installing the E.X.P. version : VMware-Workstation-Full-e.x.p-6056110.x86_64.bundle I still had to manually change the netif.c file (which is in the vmnet.tar) before the vmnet module would compile. The details of what I did can be found in the thread "Failed to build vmnet module on Linux 4.4.76-1-default openSUSE Leap 42.3 which is on Workstation Pro Tech Preview forum [1], as well as below [*] For the records : - I had zero problems installing and getting virtualbox up and running 2 weeks ago. The problem is that my current setup and my knowledge is more oriented to using VMware-Workstation rpm -qa virtualbox virtualbox-5.1.22-20.2.x86_64 - both vmnet-only and vmmon-only modules error out when compiling using the lastest paid version of VMware-Workstation : VMware-Workstation-Full-12.5.7-5813279.x86_64.bundle Below is what I did to get the vmnet module to compile once Ihad installed the E.X.P. version # Start My kernel version is 4.4.76 uname -a Linux hero 4.4.76-1-default #1 SMP Fri Jul 14 08:48:13 UTC 2017 (9a2885c) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Download and install VMware-Workstation-Full-e.x.p-6056110.x86_64.bundle The vmnet module error out when compiling ################################## # How to fix the problem : summary ################################## In the netif.c file (which is in the vmnet.tar), you should have the following line: compat_netif_trans_update(dev); My solution was to change compat_netif_trans_update(dev); to netif_trans_update(dev); Then run: vmware-modconfig --console --install-all ################################## # How to fix the problem : long ################################## Login as root cd /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source/ cp -p vmnet.tar vmnet.old.tar tar xf vmnet.tar cd vmnet-only vi netif.c Open netif.c and find the line: compat_netif_trans_update(dev); It should look like this netIf->stats.tx_packets++; compat_netif_trans_update(dev); Change compat_netif_trans_update(dev); to netif_trans_update(dev); After the change - I have this netIf->stats.tx_packets++; netif_trans_update(dev); Close and save the netif.c file Close and save Now recompile VMware kernel modules using this command vmware-modconfig --console --install-all Expected results hero:/usr/lib/vmware/modules/source # vmware-modconfig --console --install-all [AppLoader] Use shipped PC/SC Lite smart card framework. An up-to-date "pcsc-lite-libs" or "libpcsclite1" package from your system is preferred. [AppLoader] GLib does not have GSettings support.
