[opensuse-factory] GCC 7 Transition

We are in the process to prepare initial GCC 7 packages for Factory (without yet switching the default build compiler). There is a staging set up switching the default build compiler to GCC 7 at openSUSE:Factory:Staging:Gcc7. There are still numerous build failures due to (in)valid C++ code being rejected more pedantically or new warnings tripping over -Werror used in package builds. So this is a first heads-up for you in case you want to check the status of your package (or you received a bugzilla saying it won't build with GCC 7). One important thing with GCC 7 is that it no longer provides support for the Java language. For a transitional period "GCC Java" will continued to be provided by GCC 6 but that should be considered legacy. See the packaging documentation on how to build Java packages and consider dropping support for the GCJ Java "flavor" in other packages. Any help with reducing the build fails in openSUSE:Factory:Staging:Gcc7 is appreciated. Hi, just a quick announcement and request for feedback. Firefox 51 is the last ESR release before it starts requiring rust. Therefore I plan to update FF to 51 and on released distributions proceed with the ESR minor updates for as long as possible or required. For Tumbleweed this might be different but that depends on the state of rust available there. For the moment it is expected to require always the latest stable release of rust for the most recent versions of Firefox. So the question about feedback is basically to all people working on rust here so that we can align how to go forward for Tumbleweed, upcoming and existing Leap releases. So what is the status right now and what are plans going forward? Hi all, I packaged up the Mars-Mips IDE/VM a little while ago (I used it for a university paper) and have decided to release the package in to the wild for everyone else. Intended project for reception is devel:tools:ide The IDE itself is JAVA based, and appears to run well with all the default Java distributions. The IDE itself hasn't been updated since 2014 - I don't see this as being a problem so long as Java is able to older programs. The license is MIT. Hi, Tried searching the mailing list archive to no avail, so here's my possibly silly question: Installed OpenQA on a fresh Leap as per manual and was able to run some tests successfully using OpenSUSE's latest ISO (a few from the installation/ folder). Now I want to create a new test, for a different distribution, using these as a template. A simple boot test like bootloader_uefi will do for starters. Created the necessary entities in the WebUI, copied some of the perl scripts to a new directory in /var/lib/openqa/tests, including a trimmed main.pm which picks my new test up. [opensuse-factory] "Retrieving Folders..." hang and a possible solution

Hi I've posted this to 3 lists in case it helps someone and stop blaming kmail, maybe there is a case for akonadi to identify a resource issue or a decent default should be in the base install. I originally reduced the size of my mail folders by deleting everything prior to 2016 then deleted the akonadi database in the hope of fixing the problem but no go. So i created a new user with a brand new mail database and still the problem persisted. Martin Steigerwald suggested i try this and it seems to be working for me, i've not had the hanging "Retrieving Folders..." since i did it yesterday afternoon. I stopped akonadiserver and mysqld (if it doesn't do it by itself). I increased the innodb_buffer_pool_size value from 80M to 128M in ~/.local/ share/akonadi/mysql.conf. (it was set to 80M which is 48 below the default - not sure who set below the mysql default). This new value may not be enough for your circumstances. Start akonadi again. Akonadi still crashes from time to time, especially on log out, but i think its for other reasons now. Hi, For https://reproducible-builds.org/ I just finished rebuilding all of openSUSE:Factory again. Using the common approach of double-build with variations in date+time+hostname implemented in my "rebuildmany" / rb4 script in the reproducibleopensuse repo. https://www.zq1.de/~bernhard/linux/reproducibleopensuse/compare.factory-201… contains all resulting diffs (after our build-compare filters) This was setting SOURCE_DATE_EPOCH and using 'osc build' that normalizes UID, umask, build path, locale, TZ etc my rbstats scripts summarized the results thus: total-packages: 9918 build-tried: 9918 build-failed: 1025 build-n-a: 63 build-succeeded: 8830 build-official-failed: 45 # also failed in OBS build-compare-failed: 598 build-compare-succeeded: 8232 bit-by-bit-identical: 0 so still plenty of work to do, even before we start reducing the filters in build-compare if you are maintaining a package in Factory, you can have a look at the diffs above and see if you can figure out how to avoid that diff or look at https://www.zq1.de/~bernhard/linux/reproducibleopensuse/compare.factory-201… to see if your package failed to build. For haskell packages I already filed https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1018895 and you can ignore the non-x86 packages like uboot* but there are still plenty others some of which fail their testsuite when running with chroot (instead of kvm like in OBS (which somehow is broken on my host)) Ciao -- Bernhard M.
