Hey Group; openSuSE fixed two problems that I have recently reported . 1. Amarok no longer needs 'strace -o amarok.err amarok --debug" to start correctly. It now works correctly. 2. Tvtime is now working correctly. I think this was a fix to Yast2>Hardware/TV However, Blender and gpm(nor does gpm -m /dev/input/mice -t still don't work. And from some reason the Install program fail and locked up this machine during the night. I tried the cd NET load again and it worked but it did mention that the some files are missing. It also forgot to setup /usr/bin/Xorg as 4755. It is written purely in Perl, and takes advantage of the power of Perl's regular expressions. The package has been around at least since December 2006. This issue was fixed by Debian security team and included in upstream. License is GPLv2. =================================== urlview (utilities) =================================== Urlview presents a menu of all URLs from a given text file (e.g., a mail). The user may then view the information located on those URLs. It has been around at least since 1997, it works fine for me. It used to be part of the distribution up to 11.1, then it was moved to Contrib, now I'd like to move it back. It does not seem that there is anything like true upstream homepage, but it can be found in the mutt contrib: ftp://ftp.mutt.org/pub/mutt/contrib/urlview-0.9.README I'm not aware of any security issues. Expected users are those who use mutt. License is GPLv2. =================================== cgdb (devel:tools) =================================== CGDB is a curses (terminal-based) interface to the GNU Debugger (GDB). The primary feature of CGDB is the constant presence of a source display, updated as the program executes, to help keep you focused while debugging. The interface is inspired by the classic Unix text editor, vi. The first entry in NEWS file, which has also a date attached, is from 2003. The package used to be in openSUSE distribution up to 11.1, then it was dropped (maintainer missing?), lived in Contrib and now I propose to move it back to the distribution. [opensuse-factory] Booting from Live USB to RAM

I have always quite liked a boot option in DamnSmallLinux: toram When you boot the live system "toram" the whole system is runs only in RAM. It's unbelievably fast (even in a 200 MHz box with 128 MB RAM). I wonder if this could be implemented in openSUSE Live? [opensuse-factory] storage-fixup, should it be part of the default pattern?

All, I urge that the storage-fixup package be part of the default pattern for installs. (I have no idea how that is controlled.) It's been part of openSUSE since at least 11.1, but I don't think it does anything if the user doesn't know to install it. == details The below discussion led me to look into the storage-fixup package. It looks at DMI, and HAL properties to decide if a hard drive needs special life-extending handling. The primary concern is that some drives will "unload" the heads extremely aggressively and use up their lifetime supply of unloads in less than a year. I think the full package is only 20 KB or less installed. The /etc/storage-fixups.conf file is reletively small and only has a set of equipment that clearly has the problem. You can do a test install via "zypper in storage-fixups". [opensuse-factory] installing 11.3 on media >2Tb

I've just today received a couple of Western Digital 3Tb drives, so I thought it would be worth a status report - initially on 11.3, but I'll be trying out 11.4M5 very shortly: Platform - very plain, second-hand office desktop IBM M52 with a 2.8GHz Celeron and 2Gb memory. Drive - Western Digital WD30EZRSDTL, 5400rpm, 64Mb cache, 4096 physical sector size. SATA II. Installation of minimal server went just fine, no problems whatsoever. Note - boot manager lilo, NOT grub. [opensuse-factory] 11.4 splash screen & wallpaper look awful

There's been much hassle around sax2 being removed and nothing replacing it. Some have had problems with display. This time the splash screen and later on the desktop wallpaper really make you think that everything has gone wrong. First I thought, OK I'll try to fix that if just the installation goes to the end and the machine boots... Later I found out that it's not broken, it just looks that way. I hope they will be different later on. [opensuse-factory] Missing preload-kmp-desktop - Preload Kernel Module Package

Dear Listmates, I am running openSUSE 11.3 x86_64. But I would like to upgrade the kernel fo 2.6.37x. However, the preload-kmp-desktop package is missing. I'm not sure if the update will be successful without this missing package. Please check: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/HEAD/openSUSE_11.3/ Is there a reason that it is missing? [opensuse-factory] TVtime problems again

Hey openSuSE Group; Why is that every time I save from yast2 all of the TV information is not being written to /etc/inittab. A grep of /etc also is find nothing of value. Yesterday I had TVtime working correctly and with no reboot it is failing again. Same error that happened yesterday. Where is Yast2>Hardware>TV writing the conf information? Historically it has been in /etc/inittab at the bottom of that file.
