[opensuse-factory] Language selection and keyboard during installation - questions for all English installing users

There's in bugzilla a user from Australia. Currently during installation, you choose a language at the first screen and then automatically the keyboard is changed to the primary keyboard for that language. He and others from Australia install with language "English (UK)" but uses an US keyboard - and apparently the US keyboard is common in most of the commonwealth. Since these users than do not change the keyboard setting, they have a system installed that does not work for them with their keyboard. for details see: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=656023 Is this a common problem? Should we change it - and has anybody a good idea on how to change it? For me as German, I like the way that if I select "German" as language, I get a German keyboard setup automatically, so I do not want to move away from that one. I see right now the following options: 1) Leave everything as is and close the bugreport as WONTFIX. 2) Handle "English (UK)" special and use the "English US" keyboard. 3) Do not change keyboard at all. 4) Add some more locales, like "English (AU)" that use English (UK) as language but English US keyboard. 5) Any other ideas? [opensuse-factory] Problem with applydeltaiso trying to create 11.4M4

Following a successful trial with 11.4M3 (Build 845) I've successfully downloaded openSUSE-DVD-Build0845_Build0908-i586.delta.iso (the md5 checks out OK) but using applydeltaiso from 11.3 (standard x64 version) I get an internal md5 sum failure at package wine-32bit (this after many packages have been processed correctly). Same error at glibc-devel when trying to create the M4 x64 version. All isos and deltas re-checked against published md5sums and are OK Is this an issue with 11.3's deltarpms package (yast says I have 3.5-6.1)? Hey, here is a list of things that still need to be done, or need to be discussed how to be done. Note: there is a wiki page about this: http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Systemd_status And for any non-SUSE-specific bugs or requests, please use the upstream mailing list and bug tracker, not this list or the SUSE bugtracker. - systemd service files - a bunch of services need native systemd service files to replace the SYSV init script - some just need to be enabled in the build with: --with-systemdsystemunitdir=/lib/systemd/system - some needs to be packaged and taken from the Fedora packages - some needs to written - systemd/SYSV service management - the init scripts should call systemd if systemd is used, e.g. /etc/init.d/cups start" should either print a warning or call "systemctl start cups.service" directly - Fedora's systemd calls 'chkconfig' for SYSV scripts, so all services can be managed with 'systemctl'. - the YaST2 runlevel editor needs to be modified for systemd, the API of the runlevel editor is used by other YaST modules to enable/disable/query services - RPM package upgrade and systemd service files - systemd services should be enabled only the first time a systemd service files is shipped, depending on the current state of the sysv service. - systemd services are currently only enabled when the package is installed the first time, not with an update. - some SUSE packages ship systemd files, but don't enable the systemd service - replace SUSE-specific config files to new cross-distro configs: /etc/os-release (like /etc/SuSE-release) /etc/locale (replaces /etc/sysconfig/language) /etc/tmpfiles.d/ (replaces /etc/tmpdirs.d/) /etc/vconsole.conf (replaces /etc/sysconfig/keyboard,console) /etc/modules-load.d/ (replaces /etc/sysconfig/kernel::MODULES_LOADED ...) - some of the old SUSE-specific config files are read by systemd, but we should start using the new "Linux default" - splash integration - systemd supports only plymouth at the moment, possibly just switch to plymouth? - move X to tty1 - to avoid VT switch on bootup - to match systemd's getty1 logic - future systemd will support on-demand getty (getty2-6 are only started on VT switch) - getty1/X will be special, depending which "runlevel" is used - sort out the /etc/init.d/xdm config mess (how to convert that beast to a _proper_ systemd service?) - sort out the mess in /etc/init.d/syslog - probably just provide native service file for rsyslog, and disable the this weird script - systemd wants a syslog with socket activation, upstream rsyslog supports this already - sort out NetworkManager vs. sysconfig mess - starting NetworkManager from a the sysconfig init script, depending on a config variable is just weird - on Fedora NM can always be started and just leaves interfaces alone, that are configured in the "old scripts", all unconfigured interfaces are managed by NM. Hello, gnome-packagekit misses a dependecy on a Policykit authentication agent. I've just installed using the latest net image in a VM and had a few issues: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=619739 is still there I couldn't get pulseaudio to work (was enabled with yast sound installation) and amarok just crashed (I clicked on "install debugging symbols" in the KDE crash handler, but it "didn't find symbols for ...". Before that it complained about missing mp3 capabilities, which was to be expected. System sounds seem to work though. Using an encrypted home _partition_ worked. [opensuse-factory] util-linux-ng plans for 11.4?

All, A new userspace tool "fstrim" was checked into git for util-linux-ng last week. http://git.kernel.org/?p=utils/util-linux-ng/util-linux-ng.git;a=commit;h=d… Its a new almost trivial tool that invokes the new ext4 FITRIM capability in the 2.6.37 kernel. I'd like to see it in 11.4. If a new util-linux-ng version that includes fstrim is likely to get in I'll just let the process happen. If not, I can sr a patch based on the above git info. (I'm not a obs expert, so if someone else would do it, even better.) Hey Group; How come two different applications require to be started with "strace -o program.err program". Assume program is either amarok or mythtv-setup. This has to be a openSuSE 11.# or KDE4.# headache. [opensuse-factory] creating a better Factory

Hi there is this problem, that Factory is sometimes broken but it would be nice if people had a safer way to test new software even between milestone-releases (which are manual factory-snaphots). via https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA/Tools I found something I wanted to have for openSUSE, too: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Israwhidebroken.com_Proposal I did s/rawhide/Factory/ s/chewtoy/Factory-tested/ and seeded this onto http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Factory-tested_Proposal It is about creating a snapshot of Factory whenever it passes all basic automated tests (aka critical path) - preferably with minimal human intervention (aka hard work) needed. I have much of the automated testing done, so what is missing is a way to trigger+do the snapshotting.
