My grub in the MBR already had an other linux entry. When I tried to boot I chose other linux in the MBR's grub menu, than I got root (hd0,1) Filesystem type is ext2fs partition type 0x83 configfile /boot/grub/menu.lst error 2: bad file or directory type ~From the release notes I got a clue that inode size changed, so I reinstalled 11 with 128 inode size of the / partition, and everything went well. What is the positive side of change of the inode size? The negative side I've seen already ;) The release notes only complain compatibility issues about few ext3 tools for example win's extfs, doesn't say that you have to install new grub to the MBR. Should I submit a bug report? Please note that it also has the first experimental release of live usb images. |plugin in usb stick |check dmesg output about the device name (e.g. sdc) |umount all possibly automounted file systems |bzip2 -cd <download>.raw.bz2 | dd of=/dev/<device_name> bs=4096 Please note that installing from an USB stick has his problems as yast recognizes the stick as hard disk, which has to be worked around by the user. As usual: if you find bugs with it, note the date of the snapshot in the bug report. [opensuse-factory] Can't config a printer via Yast

Trying to set up a network (SMB) printer via Yast, using the latest factory packages... I can configure the settings, Yast confirms the connection to my SMB printer is valid when I click the button (in subsequent testing I even garbled the name of the SMB printer and my login credentials, just to see if it was actually testing, and it reported an error in both cases, so I know that it is communicating with my networked system), I proceed to the next screen and set things like the printer driver etc., but upon clicking Next, it returns me to the main screen, without my printer queue showing. I can do this a dozen times in a row. No error message or dialog displays, I just have no printer available. Could be that I'm being obtuse and overlooking something when configing, but regardless, just dumping me back to the initial screen without an error message or dialog is either a bug, or bad design. And since KDE 4.x lacks a printer config, I have no way of setting up my printer. FWIW, had no issues with network printing in 10.3, in that I know my printer is supported and I was able to print through the same SMB system via the network. Am I missing something, or is this a known issue...? Thanks in advance for any pointers or advice... Hello developers. I installed beta3 64bit on two computers (see below) and experienced the following problems. (I used the "minimal server"- Installation on PC1 and KDE4 for PC2) 1. Booting the beta3 DVD I tested the (F9)-speech feature. Then I selected language->german and started the installation. The installation started in textmode. When I did not press F9 in the beginning the installation would start in graphics mode. (tested on PC2) 2. YAST -> software installation (in the installation process and on the installed system): - No installed software is listed on the first screen (the installed packages should be listed). - seen on both PC1 and PC2 - When searching for a software package no activity/busy-sign is visible (so I don't know if YAST started searching, is still searching or did crash) - seen on both PC1 and PC2 - Selecting an installed package and clicking on the "files" tab shows "0 Files" (experienced this with the VirtualBox std and debug kernel drivers) - seen on PC2 3. VirtualBox doesn't work out of the box. I installed "VirtualBox-ose" with YAST. When I started VB, setup a VM and tried to start this VM, VB complained that the kernel driver was not installed. It suggested to me to run "/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup". That shut down the VB driver and restarted it. Now I got a different error message - I have to belong to the group vboxusers. Hi, as of beta2, the graphical bootloader (the one on the install media) supports speech output via pc-speaker. That is, it reads all menu items to you. This feature is mainly there to aid visual impaired people. It's still experimental and I'd like to get your feedback whether it works or not on your machine. To try it, simply press F9. (In the worst case, your machine will freeze at this point.) Please report positive (if any) and negative results. The applydeltaiso from about a month ago fails on the beta3 KDE delta iso x86_64. There's a new one out yesterday for x86_64 (the i586 is missing - Stephan?).
