/lib/modules/(stock2.6.21kernel)# du -s 60804 . /lib/modules/(my2.6.21kernel)# du -s 538292 . That's a 785% increase in space consumed by my modules over stock modules. Does that happen for anyone building their own Factory kernel? Can a more normal space consumption be made to happen by a mere mortal kernel building novice like myself? [opensuse-factory] Can't Rescue 10.3

Friday I determined that 4096 was an inappropriate blocksize for my non-libata hda19 Factory / partition. I booted 10.1 from hda7 and did a cp -a on that partition to another partition, reformatted to the 1024 blocksize, then did cp -a back to it. I then tried to mount and chroot to it in order to run grub-install. Grub-install failed due to the non-existent target device. Copying the hda19 device file from the 10.1 / and trying again didn't help. I tried to do a rescue installation, but both rescue modes apparently failed for a similar or the same reason. Hello, I installed the latest factory, and I quite enjoy it, especially the part of adding repositories from the build service easily. I got just one 'little' problem: on PPC all of these repositories are empty (OK, I could probably find some 'noarch' :-) ). Any news on this? Or still 'no public info' or 'in a few months'? Hi, from various discussions in bug reports I know that brp scripts for the following are installed in autobuild: - check whether .la files have an empty dependency_libs line - check whether .la and .pc files have references to the build root - check whether .desktop files have all their icons installed Are these scripts publicly available somewhere? They are not distributed with rpm, build or osc and I could not find them anywhere else either. If not, would it be possible to publish these (and others, if present)? [opensuse-factory] Known problem with zypper still?

Opened a bug some time ago. Selecting some packages from Factory will cause zypper to not return, stays permanently "working on" and window goes grey. Kill -9 the pids of yast2 sw_single, removing /var/run/zypp.pid and at times needing to bomb out the window is the only way to return it to sanity, then YaST --> Installation Source can be restarted. [sorry for the cross-post, but this could be of interest for both packagers as well as factory users/testers] Hi, in case you see warnings like this: WARNING: the --skip-unsupported option is no longer available then either fix your package to no longer care about unsupported modules (remove the --skip-unsupported option) or make a bugreport if it's not in your package. Ex: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=293758 Background: the handling of unsupported modules was changed in 10.3, it's now globally configured in /etc/modprobe.d/unsupported.blacklist, it's no longer the responsibility of the callers of modprobe. For compatibility with not yet updated scripts, the option is still recongnized, but it prints the above warning. [opensuse-factory] Alpha 6 from DVD

Hey Group; It loaded/worked just fine on My Laptop (HP 6400) with a RJ45 eth0 and a Wireless WIFI. However, That part is not working correctly. It would not set the default to agree with the "Server Search" device This all came about at the end when hardware detection was being used. Problem is due to not allowing multiple devices to to be setup early in the install. However, it must be a display variable problem. Yast2 when up seems to have it correct under Network Setting > Network Card. It just seems it took a while and then a ping worked via the wireless card. The fingerprint device was found. hwinfo --usb found it but no listing. Has anyone figured out which driver to use. I could'nt use audacity because it crashes inmeditely. I noticed that ecryptfs-utils version 10 is in openSUSE 10.3 Alpha. I am the lead developer for eCryptfs, so if there are any support issues, send them my way. Which version of pdftk is being included in 10.3? I just found that version 1.41 shown here: http://www.pdfhacks.com/pdftk/ also does stamping beside watermarking. While watermarking works well placing background images on text-based PDFs, such as from Latex, it does not work with scanned PDFs, because the watermark in the background is completely covered by the scanned image. pdftk 1.41 can circumvent that by applying a stamp on the front of the scanned images, according to the description. The website only has version 1.41 compiled for Windows. I have just performed an update to latest factory, and there must be something broken with resmgr. /dev/null is not accessible by my user, I get /dev/null permission denied when I log in the console, and KDE does not start at all. I have stopped the resmgr service and then chmod a+rw /dev/null, to be able to use KDE. Hallo. I saw many renames of packages in the last days. We follow shared library packaging conventions, but this policy says nothing about renaming of source package. I think, that it would be a good practice to use the same name for both devel and source package. It's more convenient and even simpler to do it in the spec. I propose to add following line to the Packaging/Shared Library Packaging Policy: "Source packages should in general omit $NUM as .src.rpm packages for different library versions and should follow -devel package naming." In practice it will bring more convenient .src.rpm naming and nicer spec files and less number of renames and drops in the repositories. Hi, I installed the x86_64 DVD yesterday and had problems when I selected a big amount of packages. First I selected a pattern (KDE4), the machine begins to resolve the dependencies (autocheck is on by default). After some time X is stopped, it falls into the ncurses interface and it shows a red error without explanation, what exactly happened. The second time I ommitted KDE4, but selected all other patterns then switched to package groups. And began to select whole package groups with "All in this list". This worked for the first one or two, but then the same as above: The machine begins to resolve the dependencies (autocheck is on by default). After some time X is stopped, it falls into the ncurses interface and it shows a red error without explanation, what exactly happened. After the second experience of this, I switched to the console log and saw that the Out-Of-Memory function killed hal daemon. The machine has 1 GB RAM, so this should not happen. I've tried Alpha6 (i386) on 2 different machines now. Neither machine can add more software packages after the initial installation. They keep erroring with 'No installation source'. It looks like my symptoms are similar to bug reports 293586 and 293705. I'm a newbie. As feature freeze is drawing closer and compiz-fusion have yet to release I'm wondering what will be done here. Will compiz-fusion(-git) move into factory before feature freeze? This happens on 2 different 64bit machines. I thought there was only one project now, "compiz-fusion" - and that David R. was a principle developer of that, who might be able to pull some strings and give us some extra consideration. I realize now this is not how it works at all. One of the reasons I asked is that for 10.2 some Novell projects released with rather unfortunate timing from openSUSE perspective - iirc both Banshee and Mono released new versions very shortly after openSUSE feature-freeze. Personally I don't care about any of those projects, but I care about openSUSE and it seemed silly that there was no coordination. I was hoping we could avoid a repeat. But since the release of compiz + compiz-extra is not under our control at all, I'm just wasting people's time. So all I'm left with is just to express my hopes that we can ship both compiz(-core) _and_ compiz-extra with 10.3.
