Video Intel awaking w wrong Brightness level

Hello, I've been able to set a specific brightness intensity at evry boot, by using an /etc/init.d/after.local script, but anytime my system awakes from suspended mode, the brightness resets to a very high intensity. from dmesg I see: [ 3.128757] i915 0000:00:02.0: [drm] Skipping intel_backlight registration [ 33.797331] ideapad_acpi VPC2004:00: Keyboard backlight control not available [28383.336476] video LNXVIDEO:00: Restoring backlight state How could I resolve this? Hi there, will adding and using this > <https://news.opensuse.org/2023/01/24/opensuse-simplifies-codec-install/> for 15.4 help my opensuse 15.4 firefox to surf twitter and see animations aka videos on twitter? multimedia on opensuse is bascially restricted to ancient mp3 and youtube.com for me using firefox and default stuff from opensuse 15.4 youtube being very generous when offering users a fallback codec for noncopyrighted or nonpatented codec layers and encoding stuff with that and delivering it to the user. I added this specialty cisco patent stuff codec repo from that news post url up there but twitter is still nonvideo for me. what am i doing wrong? or is this news just a very basic first step or something? i am not very literate in this kind of stuff. also i fail to see the real connection with this special area called packman repos for opensuse and who are the people behind running that packman stuff and why they dont have trouble with legal or patents but opensuse as a project does etc tia

Referring to tho posting of Josef Reidinger on the opensuse-factory list (Drop of yast2-sound; 25-01-2023), yast sound was the only way I had to get my bluetooth headphone working. Just touch the modules, and restart them, and the bluetooth device appeared in the list of sound devices (it was always found as a bluetooth device already). It was a little annoying, but since I reboot the machine only one in 2-3 weeks, it was not a big problem. So for me, it's a real pity yast-sound has gone. In the aforementioned discussion, pipewire was mentioned as a way to solve these things, at least, that was how understood it. So I looked for it in yast-software (hope that's not on the vanishing list 😁), to find a lot of pipewire was installed already. qpwgraph was not installed, so I installed it. Went to https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/ Clicked on 'Log In', bringing me to: https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/index.cgi?GoAheadAndLogIn=1 Entered my "Login:" and "Password:", and clicked the "Log In" button. Hi, After zypper dup'ing TW yesterday, on reboot Thunderbird and Firefox show a barely readable tiny font (I have 4k screens). Changing the font type/size in the preferences doesn't change anything. Any idea how to overcome this? regards, Jogchum

Good morning Is there a clean way of downloading the files in directory /usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-suse-linux/7/32/ for Leap 15.1, without wrecking 64-bit compilation ? Have these files changed since February 2020 ? I very simply need to do 32-bit and 64-bit builds, on practical rather than ideological grounds I’ve found all the headers and libraries I need, but I think it’s surprising that downloads of three years ago for gcc 7.5.0 on Leap 15.1 are more complete than downloads now of gcc 7.5.0 on Leap 15.1, and I wonder if anything changed in that time apart from suppressing parts that I use of gcc. overriding hostname in wicked-dhcp?

This isn't specific to OpenSUSE, so I'm open to being told to look elsewhere. My goal: if the DHCP server does not provide a hostname, I want to synthesize one from the IPv4 address I'm getting. Using the classic ISC DHCP client (dhclient), this is easy; you create an exit-hook script, and that script has access to all of the details of the lease, so I can selectively override the processing of the lease; e.g.: case "$reason" in BOUND|RENEW|REBIND|REBOOT) if [ -z "$new_host_name" ]; then new_host_name=${new_ip_address//./-} hostnamectl set-hostname $new_host_name fi ;; esac Easy-peasy. (Yes, an enter-hook might be a better place, but you get the gist.) However, OpenSUSE uses wicked to manage DHCP configuration. I know it has a scripting mechanism, but I can't quickly find a way to accomplish the above in wicked. Any pointers? Few days ago my Radeon RX 5700 after 3 years of working absolutely fine, kind of stopped working. The symptoms are: - At BIOS and GRUB there is video output. - If I run the system with "nomodeset" kernel option, then there is video output (obviously without acceleration and limited to low resolution). - It's not a faulty cable, because I tested it with other cables. I usually use HDMI cable, but with DisplayPort it's the same. - It's not a faulty monitor, because I use it also with my laptop on a second input. - If I put my card into another computer with Windows, it works with acceleration, like there's nothing wrong. - But if I start my Tumbleweed with amdgpu drivers, then as soon as kernel loads drm driver (so it's even before Xorg starts), the screen goes blank (the monitor shows "no signal" and shuts off). It doesn't matter if I boot my Tumbleweed with current or previous kernel. Hi, I am trying to install a HP Color Laser 178nw Cups (and also lsusb) sees the printer, but I can't find a driver for it. The list of printer cups, and also the HP support website, is long, but I no Color Laser 178nw. On the HP support site no driver can be found at all, regardless the choice of OS. The openprinting.org site also shows no Color Laser 178nw. It was bought very recently, so I wouldn't think it's a too old model. Anyone an idea how to get this beast to work? I found the thread of the same subject name and tried following the steps while trying to install openSUSE. I'm trying to install openSUSE Tumbleweed (latest version). However it gets stuck at the green loading drivers screen. I'm booting from a USB drive using an ISO I created wit Rufus. I'm trying to do this on a Windows 11 machine that has two SSD drives. One is running Windows, the other I'm trying to install openSUSE. Here are my hardware specs: Motherboard: ASROCK CPU: Intel i5 6th generation RAM: 16GB Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER. Please help.

Problems with Gnome in Leap 15.4

These issues only seem to be present on new installations of Leap 15.4. Upgrades from 15.3 don't seem to be affected. Using Gnome 41.8. The greeter doesn't show domain logins in the list. Under certain circumstances the names will appear, or at least the user name I use appears. Locking the screen doesn't allow the screen to turn off. Power settings are set to turn off the display after 15 minutes. When logging in after the screen has been locked, any open applications on monitor 2 move to monitor 1. Hope these issues can be resolved in Leap 15.4.

Hi all, So, welcome to a frustrating Wednesday morning. I came across a bug where there is an "Ajax error" going to http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/multimedia:/libs:/cisco-openh264/ with a popup, DataTables warning: table id=data - Ajax error. For more information about this error, please see http://datatables.net/tn/7 At this point I wanted to report a bug. Easy. There is even a Link at the bottom that says "Report issue". And that just goes to bugzilla. So now the hunt starts -- which category? The MirrorCache link said nothing about category. The only thing with "download" in the description, ends up with microfocus.com email..... Anyone know what category bugs for MirrorCache should be filed? And shouldn't this information be, at very least, part of the link? Thanks, Adam

sda3 and nvme0n1p3 both contain exactly the same kernel and initrd. Support, there is some new firmware update for some samsung ssd (nvme ssm pcie based) that is built into this system i use.
