Hi, all --
I'm running Leap 15.2 (and this has been happening for a while), and
after a round of updates I have to go back to /etc/profile.d and
wipe out files that I don't want (alias.bash + ls.bash in particular).
Different from adding my own run commands to profile.local.sh thereunder,
I want to NOT get the stock stuff.
Is there any way to keep them from being dropped again so that I don't
have to deal with this over and over? *sigh*
TIA & HAND
:-D

What sort of day was it? A day like all days, filled with those events that

Hi,
I tried SSH tunnelling several times, but never made it to work, so might be
time to start from scratch... I have in my office desktop running TW, at home
notebook running TW, and in the office also Synology NAS running some (Debian-
based?) Linux. The NAS has public as well as internal IP and I have fully
admin control over it. I can SSH to the NAS and from it to the desktop. Fine.
But I'd prefer direct connection (let's disregard VPN for a moment). I vaguely
remember I'd have to open new SSH port on the NAS, but I'm not sure if I need
there also extra SSH service...? And how I then tunnel from notebook to the
desktop via NAS...?
Thanks,
V.

I'm going somewhat crazier than usual trying to use Thuderbird Mail
because Thunderbird has blown up again, lost my password, won't let me
put in a new one, the
on-line instructions for fixing it (using Windows) don't seem to work
anymore--I think they've "updated" it. I want to use KMail, but it
wants KWallet, and I have been
defeated trying to install that. Trying it cold didn't work, so I just
tried https://duckduckgo.com/?q=short+guide+for+pam_kwallet&ia=web, from
benediktg, ran sudo
zypper pam_kwallet, and very carefully modified the three files it
requests--/etc/pam.d//passwd, /etc/pam.d/login, and /etc/pam.d/sddm. I
checked the "new" versions
carefully, and I'm really pretty sure they agree with those posted. I
put an icon on the desktop that's called "KWallet/Manager," by
selecting it from the bowling ball, but
when I click on the icon, nothing happens.
Any helpful advice welcome. --doug
PS--this mail routine from optimum.com is NOT user-friendly, in my
humble opinion.
Hi all,
after upgrade from 15.2 to 15.3, today I tried to start
inkscape
on my system but it could not be launched.
Package version
inkscape-1.1.1-lp153.87.2.x86_64.rpm
If I try to run it in the terminal the following error messages are occuring:
$ inkscape
inkscape: error while loading shared libraries: libinkscape_base.so: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory
Apparently it should have to do with
libinkscape_base.so
I've no idea to solve the problem.
Kind regards
Michael

Today I noticed that after my most recent install of the OS I had not installed the
scanner driver for my HP DeskJet F2210 printer/scanner. I started YaST Scanner and
pointed it to the components for the F2210 scanner. It installed numerous QT5 libraries,
hplip-devel, hplip-hpijs and hplip-sane, then failed with the "Failed to activate hpaio"
message.
I tried removing and reinstalling the hplip-* components, but it failed again the same
way. Where should I look for more information to diagnose this?

Hello,
I collected very few documentation regarding file-system encryption on
Linux.
I understand that it must be done at format stage and not after the FS
has been sized and installed, in order to prevent data loss.
I would BTW like to ask here if, in case I decide to encrypt just my
/home dir (separated partition) with the existing data it contains,
which risks I'm gonna to face.
Many thanks for your feedback.

Build: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20211111
Kernel:5.14.14-2-default
Desktop: XFCE (4.16.0)
Hi,
I am currently on Debian with Linux 5.14.0. I wanted to try OpenSUSE, so
I first downloaded the Tumbleweed GNOME Live image. Everything worked.
Then I tried to install Tumbleweed. The installer correctly detected my
trackpad, wifi card, and everything else.
However, after the install nothing worked. A normal boot would get stuck
on «Generating Static Devices» (paraphrased), so the only way to boot is
to disable ACPI. This breaks a lot more things, but at least gets me to
a prompt.
My question would be; why does it only fail on the on-disk install, but
work literally everywhere else?
Thanks.
purchased a new box: Dell x7-11700
32GB
GeForce RTX 3060 8GB
500G SSD
1T Spinning Rust
just downloaded openSUSE-Tumbleweed-DVD-x86_64-Snapshot20211110-Media.iso
shrank windows install using windows tools
left free 370GB on SSD and 750GB on Rust
booted usb stick with the iso above dd'd
ran thru setup and software selection and began install, but was never
offered any partitioning, wtf ???
should I revert and install Leap 15.3, then change to Tw?
never hand this happen before.
