Hi all
I have a problem with Leap 15.1 and went to sign up with openSUSE forums. I
received a validation email, which contained neatly ordered garbage but no
validation code. The sender of this email is the webmaster from microfocus,
but an email to that address just bounces. I have since discovered that
openSUSE and microfocus are no longer associated.
So, given that the validation process is broken, how do I get signed up to the
forums?
Regards
JT

Hi,
For some time now when upgrading TW (which I do regularly using zypper
dup --no-allow-vendor-change) when it comes to apache2-mod_php7, zypper
halts. That is, it ends with the 100% installed message, and than it stops.
I have to "kill -9" it to free the terminal, and have to start zypper anew.
Anyone any idea whit might cause that?
cheers, Jogchum

Hi,
OK I don't know what happened but I cannot get a repository
connection
with zypper. I dropped my tv plan with xfinity and kept internet.
Everything works
like mail, web pages etc. However zypper claims it can't get a connection.
The only clue is the system says locked by pid 3740 /usr/bin/ruby.ruby2.6
any help would be appreciated.......thanks,
mike

[WHY?: because moznet IRC is shutting down; luckily, freenode still works]
>From https://software.opensuse.org/package/riot-web :
"riot-web
A glossy Matrix collaboration client for the web
Riot (formerly known as Vector) is a Matrix web client built using the Matrix
React SDK."
I installed it from darix home, but:
> man riot-web
No manual entry for riot-web
> which riot-web
which: no riot-web in
(/opt/kde3/bin:/home/me/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/home/me/bin)
Search box in menu starter turns up nothing.
So I loaded https://riot.im/app/, but it invisibly claims:
"Sorry, your browser is not able to run Riot.
Riot uses many advanced browser features, some of which are not available or
experimental in your current browser.
Please install Chrome, Firefox, or Safari for the best experience.
With your current browser, the look and feel of the application may be completely
incorrect, and some or all features may not function. If you want to try it anyway
you can continue, but you are on your own in terms of any issues you may encounter!"
I opened https://riot.im/ in another browser, but I don't see a connection between
it and the installed riot-web package.
Google doesn't seem to want to provide a link to useful instructions for using
riot-web.
What's the secret?

Hi
Since the last TW update, its impossible to use any browser that is chrome based, the tabs crash regularly, it doesn't seem to matter what website you are visiting. The tab will have either crashed before you visit it or during activity on the website.
Firefox seems fine.
Anyone having this issue?

Ian

Hi,
the log of my TW machine (20200213) is full of this:
Feb 21 08:21:55 lux kwin_x11[4232]: qt.qpa.xcb: QXcbConnection: XCB error: 3 (BadWindow), sequence: 41786, resource id: 73400321, major code: 18 (ChangeProperty), minor code: 0
one message every 5 seconds, on an idle computer (at night) in DPMS suspend.
Any idea what that is, or how to find out?

Hi,
Can someone point me to how/where to volunteer for documentation?
I apologize if this list is not the place for my question - I would be happy to
resubmit the question elsewhere.
I was browsing the recent openSuSE news over the weekend and somewhere/someone
(I cannot remember where/who) - mentioned it as number one priority/deficiency
for the project. After sleeping on it, maybe I could help.
Thanks,
Tomas

Hi list,
I wonder if some here use Optimus laptops and can share some input.
I do, and use bumblebee, because all I need it for is some single
applications. suse-prime, which requires logging out and in, is therefore way
too much overhead. I've read that newer prime versions do also support
prime-run using render offload with nvidia drivers newer than some 435.xx
But checking the opensuse pages on prime nothing of that is mentioned, and
'cnf prime-run' doesn't give any matches. So it seems I'm stuck with
bumblebee (which I don't have an issue with).
However, now there's kernel 5.5 (I run Tumbleweed). And the current version
of bumblebee uses nvidia 418.113, which won't compile against 5.5 :(
Naive as I am :o, I just pulled the RPM source for the kernel modules, changed
the spec file to use 440.59 instead, and generated my own package for
nvidia-bumblebee. It does install and compile the kernel modules without
error. I can load them, also w/o error.
BUT:
It doesn't work :(
woodstock:~ # systemctl status bumblebeed.service

Does anyone have an idea what I am missing?

Hi,
I know that it's known bug about openSUSE bugzilla site unresponsiveness which
AFAIK linked to servers where bugzilla is located. But can't we really do
anything with this? Maybe with some help of community.
I've created bug report only now, though problem exists at least for 2 weeks,
because when I try to do a search I don't get a result, but
ERR_CONNECTION_RESET instead. I've made search today 3 times before error-free
result, though I still not sure I haven't created duplicate, because I had
issues with previous bug reports when I got empty search results while there
were bugs with matching description and searching later showed them.
When filling a bug report "possible duplicates" is empty often (for the same
reason I think).
Also, sometimes (not today) when creating bug report site shows error, you are
creating report again, again, and then you got 2-3 identical reports, because
they were created but you haven't got results with ID.
This is kinda killing the mood of filling reports and making me sad, as I think
it's better to keep bugs in bugzilla (or other issue tracking system), not
mailing lists.
So, this is partially just whining, partially a call to people to speak aloud
what we (SUSE/openSUSE team and openSUSE community) can do about this.

With GRUB 2.04 finally supporting btrfs with zstd compression, I was thinking
of switching my OS disk to that algorithm.
I ran a quick test install of a VM with zstd'ed btrfs with Tumbleweed, and it
failed to boot in a BIOS install but worked with UEFI. This seems to be the
cause:
https://build.opensuse.org/package/view_file/openSUSE:Factory/grub2/0001-bt…
Does this mean that using btrfs with zstd compression is fine when using UEFI?
