I'd like to suggest an addition to the G:C policy (less than 24 hours after announcing it as complete) :) I'd like to propose that people packaging in G:C be "required" (not sure how we impose it) to be members of this list. [opensuse-gnome] any plans to improve updater-applet?

Hello; after being angry _again_ that I have to jump through hoops in order to get useful info about preciseliy _which_ packages have updates waiting, I just wondered whether the opensuse-updater-applet for GNOME really is supposed to remain in its current state. My minor complaint about it is that if I want to know which recommended and mandatory updates are waiting, I have to wait for yast to update all repositories _again_ instead of the updater showing me right away what it already 'knows'. My major complaint is that there is absolutely _no_way_ to find out which 'additional' updates are waiting! The update-manager thinks it is none of its business, and the package-manager doesn't know how to display updates at all... So a user needs to know how to use zypper, or use SmartPM for that; not good. Sorry, but I feel a little bit disgruntled that the KDE-applet is simply SO much better. Hello, Find attached a patch to QuickSynergy that will allow it to save the server name if one has been entered. I can't find an email address to the author of QuickSynergy so can't send the patch to him. I've asked James Ogley to package this utility. Cheers, Magnus

The GIMP, version 2.4.0 final was released today (thanks to jimmac for the heads-up in his blog). I'm planning to have this building (although maybe not yet publishing) in G:C today and the plan is that it will upgrade gimp-unstable automagically as well as gimp. I also plan to generate a .ymp for 1-click install - the moment I joined #opensuse-project this morning, I was jumped to ask for this. After reading this comparison http://www.tuxmachines.org/node/21155 I did some testing on my laptop (Intel Centrino 2 GHz - 1 GB RAM - 7200 rpm HD). First of all I removed the following applets from the panel: * Main menu (I replaced it with the old standard menu) * Tomboy leaving there the following basic configuration: * Standard GNOME menu * Windows list * Notification area * Battery applet * Opensuse updater gnome * NetworkManager applet * Volume control * International clock * Show desktop With this configuration, I logout and login again measuring the time required to show the complete desktop. The results are the following: * Basic configuration: 11 seconds * Basic configuration + gnome main menu: 13 seconds * Basic configuration + gnome main menu + tomboy: 20 seconds * Basic configuration + gnome main menu + tomboy + system monitor: 21 seconds * Basic configuration + gnome main menu + tomboy + system monitor + deskbar + weather applet + application killer: 22 seconds Measurements are unreliable both for the method (logout and re-login) and for the difficulty to obtain consistent results, but it seems tomboy is the main cause the long login time. As part of our experimentation with meeting format, this week we'll have Stefan Seyfried attend from the mobile devices team to discuss a little about the state of bluetooth (the bluez stack) and bluetooth in GNOME for 10.3 (not good) and in 11.0 (will be *much* better) followed by some QA.
