Hi all,
A quick question, I've packaged gnome-video-arcade[1] from a git
snapshot, which already supports GTK3. I need a project for this
application which is basically a front-end for MAME (a multi system
emulator) and was considering GNOME:Apps for it. This will raise a
small problem, we need sdlmame on factory.
This does sounds interesting for GNOME in openSUSE ?

Hi,
If you're wondering what's the status of GNOME 3 in openSUSE... Frédéric
and Dominique have been working hard to prepare GNOME:STABLE:3.0 and
make GNOME 3 available on 11.4. But this is not ready yet.
Let me repeat it: this is not ready yet.
There is no point in asking on irc, on forums, or on mailing lists when
it will be ready (and really do not ask directly fcrozat or DimStar
while they're working on it :-)) -- this is just slowing the efforts
down. Instead, wait for the announcement or go check
http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:GNOME_3.0 to see the current status.
For people who still decide to use GNOME 3 now (yes, it's possible to
get it working, but it requires some plumbing as the upgrade process can
break your system): we don't accept bugs about it at the moment,
especially "I can't login anymore" bugs.
As for Factory, we'll merge things in GNOME:Factory very soon now. This
means GNOME:Factory will likely be a bit broken for a few days.
We'd love to have things already available, but unfortunately, it takes
a bit more time than what we'd like :/ But we're nearly there and we
mostly need to smooth out the upgrade process to make sure it doesn't
break things for users. Thanks for your understanding.
Cheers,
Vincent

I added the GNOME 3 repository and followed the instructions found at
<http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:GNOME_3.0>
And now I'm stuck using IceWM because GNOME won't start. Attempting to
log into GNOME fails with, and I quote: "Something went wrong".
<ASIDE>
Seriously? I'm a professional sys-admin for 15+ years... what a dumb
$&@*&@@ message / dialog. How about indicating somehow in anyway at
least a hint as to *what* happened? That message is stupid and lazy.
</ASIDE>
Anyway, I went and looked in ~/.xsession-errors and I see it appear to
end with a "JS ERROR" exception relating to 'requiring Gkbd, version:
none'. There is no package named *gkbd*, some searching about made me
suspect this should be provided by "gir", but that package is installed.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello world,
Dominique pressed the big red button, and now GNOME 3 is submitted for
review to GNOME:Factory. This means that GNOME:Factory will likely be
broken in many interesting ways for the next few days, until all
packages gets in (and likely until all packages actually enter to
Factory itself).
So I strongly suggest to all people using GNOME:Factory to stop updating
it in the short term :-)
Cheers,
Vincent

People,
My University WiFi is done through Dynamic WEP / Protected EAP /
MSCHAPv2. This has always worked fine with NetworkManager on GNOME2,
but with GNOME3 after it's properly configured it just resets to WEP
and keeps asking for password (and doesn't assume the Dynamic
WEAP/PEAP/MSCHAPv2 configurations.
I haven't opened a bug report before asking here as people might
probably be aware of something that I might be missing....

Hi everyone,
the wait is over, openSUSE GNOME team is pleased to announce
GNOME:STABLE:3.0 repository is now open and can be used (but you must be
running openSUSE 11.4).
Everything is explained at http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:GNOME_3.0
including :
* how to install GNOME 3 using 1-click install (or zypper )
* how to switch from my previous repository (home:fcrozat:gnome3, which
will be soon phased out) to the new repository. This is important to
continue receiving updates, for instance, if you installed live image on
your system.
Enjoy !
(For bug reports, please file a bug against openSUSE 11.4 and put
[gnome3] in the summary of the bug)

Hi,
Looking at Phoronix, turns out Catalyst 11.4 for Linux was released
today - am I right in thinking this is the equivalent to the fglrx
packages in ATI's repo at www2.ati.com/suse/?
If so, the packages in there (which is what I have been using) still
have a builddate of 10/03/11 and are probably out of date now
I'll be trying the v11.4 installer from AMD's site when I'm next at the
machine in the hope that it'll work a little better
Can't seem to find any changelogs for 11.4 yet though so this will be a
shot in the dark
Thanks for the help

Hi,
I've filled that bug report. I don't see a much brighter future on ATI
since in the last times they lost 2 very important people that were
working on the Linux drivers (further info searchable on Phoronix).
It could be nice that someone from our X.org team could contact them
regarding those issues with GNOME3. Unity suffered from a few problems
with ATI proprietary drivers also, but according to it's changelogs
they appeared to be fixed now.
At least the radeon DRM driver is working OK for me, though with
default settings it overheats a lot my laptop (easilly worked out by
forcing the low energy setting profile on rc.local).
I'm not really sure if GNOME devs can help with this particular issue.
ATI/AMD should be releasing a new driver in the upcoming days
following their monthly releases schedule, lets wait and see. I'm also
looking forward to see if can have some joy in the future with G3 and
ATI.

Hi All,
I'm having a heck of a time trying to get GNOME 3 running on a current generation iMac with its ATI Mobility 4670 graphics card
fglrx works but has some horrific issues with the activities bar (as covered here http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=99 ) and multiple monitors (no bug filed yet, but basically the second screen's output is horrifically corrupted)
The default radeon driver appears to be out of the question - kernel seems to lockup whenever the module is loaded. Some bugs floating about imply this is a kernel issue. This problem is so severe I need to add fglrx as an Add-On product during installation or else I can't get the install to continue after the file copy.
I've tried but I cant seem to get the radeonHD driver to work either - constantly complaining about No Screens Found.
I'm not having any issues on my nvidia or intel machines, really making me hate AMD/ATI now
Anyone got any ideas on how to get GNOME 3 working on this most frustrating bucket of bolts?
Ilmehtar from IRC here - finally got around to using these lists (Yes yes, I know, I took too long)

I installed openSUSE from the GNOME 3 Live CD (thanks, Frederic!),
jumping ship from another distro where GNOME 3 isn't a priority. It's
mostly terrific, but I'm having a few small issues.
1. How do I disable Automatic Login? It seems obvious, pulling up
User Accounts with My Account in the myname pull-down, but the switch
has no effect. The GDM login seems to be accessible only if I power
on and then log out.
2. The Flash plug-in works in Firefox, but is simply missing in
Epiphany. Is there a way to implicitly specify its use in Epiphany?
Is swfdec-mozilla a reliable alternative?
3. Not a big deal, but my cheap and badly-supported (by HP) LaserJet
1020 is recognized but is not receiving print jobs. I followed the
11.3 howto for installing the proprietary driver, but no success. I
recently upgraded the printer's firmware to work with my wife's iMac,
but it isn't working there, either. When I plugged it into Ubuntu the
first time, I was told a driver needed to be downloaded and everything
happened automatically.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Hello,
I hope this mailing list is the correct place I can put my questions. I
already described the problem here:
http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/install-boot-log…
Please kindly take a look and tell me what's wrong. Any
suggestion/advice is much appreciated.
