Hi all,
You might remember that we discussed a core team idea a few months ago.
The idea is to open the responsabilities of the GNOME team even more to
people.
While we don't have a 100% concrete idea of the core team, I just want
to make it known that our beloved Magnus is now part of it. Send him
hugs :-)
The good news is that we'll all be able to test him for a while since
I'm at a conference this week and I'll only have a few days after my
return before I leave again for GUADEC. So a long period to stress-test
him! Isn't this cool? ;-)
Cheers,
Vincent

Hi.
What could be wrong with bootsplash in Gnome LiveCD Reloaded (openSUSE-11.1-GNOME-Reloaded-LiveCD.i686-0.0.2-Build1.3). Although everything seems to be set correct, bootsplash isn´t displayed, only the boot messages.
I do not know what may be the problem, why it doesn´t work. Or is it disabled on purpose?
Here you are outputs menu.lst, bootsplash and mkinitrd.

gnome-libs provides these libraries:
libart_lgpl.so.2.2.0
libgnome.so.32.4.3
libgnomesupport.so.0.0.0
libgnomeui.so.32.14.1
libgnorbagtk.so.0.0.0
libgnorba.so.27.1.8
libgtkxmhtml.so.1.0.1
libzvt.so.2.3.0
bombermaze doesn't compiles with --as-needed because libgnome doesn't
links against libpopt. I could fix just that, but the thing is these
libraries in general don't link against other libraries they need. All
of them are in /ust/lib(64) and have a soname, so they look like
libraries by themself... even if the DT_NEEDED list sometimes makes me
think otherwise. And since these libraries are so old...
Could someone confirm me that libgnorbagtk isn't some kind of plugin
for libgnorba but a library apps link to directly? And the same for
the others...
When patching, I should make all libraries link against all the
libraries they use or there is any special case?
Thanks.

Hi,
I'd like to discuss using empathy as the default IM client again :-)
Last time, we didn't make the switch because it was not totally ready.
But lots of work has happened in the meantime and empathy has some cool
new features:
+ VoIP that's working
+ geolocalisation support (not yet in G:F, need to package a few things
first, but will be ready soon)
+ support for adium themes
+ desktop sharing: you'll be able to share your desktop with your
empathy contacts!
Limitations that were blocking this in the past were:
+ file transfer (implemented now)
+ a bit buggy (should work fine now)
+ (?)
I'm not aware of any real downside. Opinions?

Hey,
If you use G:F on 11.1, please be careful the next time you update.
GNOME:Backports was changed (packages were removed while they should not
have been removed), so it's not clear if things will be working fine.
I'm not sure I'll have time to take a look today, and it seems we might
need to change the way it works anyway (because of a cycle), so no idea
when it'll get fixed right now.
For more details, see the thread at
http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-packaging/2009-06/msg00084.html

Hi,
you will see shortly some newly generated packages in your repository
Education. Those are links to packages in openSUSE:Factory and are
disabled for build. We need those to set the devel-project in
openSUSE:Factory. You can indentify them in the description.
This is just a heads up :)

Hi folks.
Have you anybody tried yet GnoMenu?
http://www.gtk-apps.org/content/show.php/GnoMenu+-+consolidated+menu+for+gn…
link to download
https://launchpad.net/gnomenu/+download
One of the themes is also SLAB. This theme includes sections/buttons
Favorites, Applications, Computer and Recently used. Configuration is
probably based on the KDE´s Kickoff menu.
After a few moments i noticed, that using the Applications section is very
useful and comfortable. Work is much faster when i need to launch any
aplication.
I don´t have to wait till opening applications menu as is in openSUSE SLAB.
And Recently used is also useful, for example when i need launch any
recently used file, aplications or whatever.
Is there some way to make the Gnome SLAB menu always display the
Applications section (instead Favorite Applications) and Recently Used,
when it's opened?
My personally request is, wheter it would be possible to edit SLAB for
11.2 like this, or at least to edit Applications section.
Snapshot in attachment, just to be sure. (hope you can receive attachment
;-)
Thanks.

Dominique,
If using zypper from the Cli you'll need to run SuSEconfig afterwards, something the yast frontend does by default.
I've been using empathy for a couple of months now without any issues so I'm all for switching. It's also the default client for Moblon, both upstream and the openSUSE/SLE variant so it makes sense.
Regards,
Andy

You motivated me to test it again... so
$ sudo zypper in empathy
$ empathy
Starts up.. first thing I see: the tray icon is just a square, gray blob... bleh.
Let's try to create an account:
Edit, Accounts, adding my groupwise messenger account. enabling it... waiting ... waiting...
oh... did I mention waiting?
No connection apparently is happening.. at least it does not do anything.
Did I do anything crucial wrong? So far I have to use kopete as IM. Pidgin crashe{s,d} on incoming GW messages (did not test for a while. so this
might be solved). empathy.. well, see above.

Is anyone else see the new NM 0.7.1 not working after a resume? It
seems to get an IP address but seems to bail at the end (wireless).
Also restarting NM seems to do the same thing.
