I just performed a Beta2 install from the Gnome CD and ended up with a
mess of an install. I allowed the option in the install to pre-connect
to the online repository and I think that's what caused the problem.
The Factory online repository is a moving target and there were a number
of packages that required different versions of libraries etc.
All of that explanation so I could propose this....
Can we get online repositories that are snapshots of the Beta releases?
I was so excited to have an install that was on a single install and
would pull packages from online only to find it was almost useless. I
understand that once we release this may not happen, but we can't even
test it right now because we the default online repository is factory.
One other thing I've noticed, when I am installed and connected to the
online repository, the time taken to load up the "Software Management"
tool in Yast is completely unacceptable. I don't know exactly what is
going on there, but I see messages about a cache being cleared out, lots
of xml files coming down, rebuilding RPM lists, etc. I'll file a bug
about what I'm seeing but I though I would discuss it here first.

Just wondered how stable (for want of a better word) GNOME:STABLE is?
Had been wondering whether it might be an idea to change the target for
GNOME:Community for products < openSUSE_Factory to be
GNOME:STABLE/<product> if G:S is stable enough?

I have backported Factory of 0.4.0 to 10.2 with the cost of dropping
making of documentation and %if -ing a lot of stuff. Also I have set a
dependancy on hicolor-theme 0.10 due to the missing icons otherwise.
You can find both in my Home Project -
http://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=f-spot&project=home%3Ai-nZ.
Are you okay if I update f-spot in GNOME:Community, which is a quite
old version (0.2.2) ?
Regards.

Hey everyone!
As there seem to be issues with abuild which cause packages to take a
little longer to get to factory, I will post all new packages build with
mbuild here:
http://packages.littlecornerofthe.net/opensuse/10.3/opensuse-updater-gnome/
So if anyone wants to test it (version 0.4.1 is there) go ahead and grab
it from there.
Issues:
* Error handling far from perfect
* Will crash when quitting (known bug, still researching)
Positive points ;-) :
* Classification of updates now works completely
* Works as long as zypper works
* Preferences have an immediate effect on classification (major
headache, I can tell you!)
* Lots of other bug fixes I can't even remember because I fixed them
along the way
Cheers,
Josh

We need to (quickly) decide on a defaultCD/DVD burning solution for
10.3. gnome-baker used to be kind of defacto, but brasero seems to be
the new hotness. What to people think?

I added brasero in as agreed in an early thread.
I suggest we probably kill gnome-blog in factory and either move it to
G:C or let it whither and die. Drivel can almost certainly replace it.
It would be great if someone could take a quick pass through the G:C
repo and suggest any clean ups - for instance I'm guessing
gaim-unstable* can die and we only need one version of pidgin.
We should start thinking about a policy for what goes into G:C as well -
I think probably thinks like abiword which end up in G:S should probably
not go in.

Hello all,
This is my first post to this mailing list. As a volunteer on the
Epiphany project, I hope people here can help in finding the right
channels to resolve this problem; I have been trying for a while without
results.
As you may know, XULRunner is a version of Gecko, the Mozilla rendering
core, meant for embedding. In OpenSUSE 10.2 and 10.3 alpha, the GNOME
modules Epiphany and Yelp use it. The XULRunner version bundled with
10.2 and 10.3 alpha is a buggy one that crashes each time a user tries
to print something. This has caused a steady stream of bug-buddy crash
reports in GNOME bugzilla. A bug in Novell bugzilla was opened in
January this year: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=239911
Unfortunately, this bug seems to have been largely ignored by Novell. In
the mean time, the problem has been fixed in XULRunner trunk a long time
ago.
It is my hope that the OpenSUSE community can prevent this bug from
going into the 10.3 release and maybe could issue an update for 10.2.
regards,

In Beta1 the logout in main menu doesn't work and in Beta2 the Logout
and Shutdown dialogs come up (from libssui) but they also don't work.
If you go into the gnome-control-center (which is missing from main-menu
in Beta2 so you can hit Alt-F2 and type in gnome-control-center) and
disable the Assistive Technologies, the logout and shutdown items will
work in Beta1 and Beta2.
It would appear that some of the changes in the 2.19 gnome-session code
is causing some problems... still being looked at but you can follow it
with bug 302316 if you are interested.

Hi,
I just submitted a patch for libgnomecanvas in openSUSE 10.3. The patch
gets rid of the ugly tearing there is while repainting. You could see
this when GDM paints the greeter's background, or when Evolution scrolls
its message list --- it should all be smooth like a concrete vault now.
However, I've seen the patch give incorrect repainting when the canvas
uses antialiased mode. I cannot find any programs that use AA mode,
though --- GDM and Evolution are what I tested, mainly, but those don't
use AA mode.
If after getting this update to libgnomecanvas you start seeing
incorrect repainting in apps, please tell me about it :)

I've committed the following new packages to GNOME:Community today:
abiword-unstable
abiword-unstable-plugins
abiword-unstable-extras
abiword-unstable-docs
(as well as a required update to ots for the plugins packages).
It's too late in our cycle (and too early in Abi's) for inclusion in
10.3 but I'd like to tentatively propose abiword-unstable* and ots for
inclusion in 10.4 (or 11.0 or whatever the next version number ends up
being), by which time it may be an official 2.6.0 release I suppose.
The reason for dividing the packages in this way is simply that the Abi
team have started producing separate tarballs and it seems to make sense
to do it this way.
The .specs are not based on the old abiword spec file which was a bit of
a mess (because the old abi tarballs were a bit of a mess), instead I
started fresh and the spec files are a lot cleaner as a result.
