After upgrading two boxes to the current GNOME3.6 both land at a
spinning-pizza-of-death on a black background.

Hi all,
I see that in Factory, Alternative Status Menu is no longer installed by
default. Although GNOME 3.6 finally provides "Power Off" by default,
without Alternative Status Menu it is *impossible* to Hibernate (without
resorting to command line). You can't press Alt to get Hibernate like
you could for Power Off before - you just cannot do it.
Moreover, Alternative Status Menu v3.6 no longer provides Hibernate by
default. The extension still supports Hibernate perfectly fine provided
it is configured to do so via gsettings, but if you install the
extension from extensions.gnome.org, then it will use a private
gsettings file that Dconf Editor cannot see, and you're basically out of
luck unless you really know what you're doing. So this has to be an
openSUSE package, rather than something installed from
extensions.gnome.org.
I've done the work of updating the extensions package and our default
gschema overrides and filed SRs 146537 and 146538 for this. If those are
accepted then anyone installing the extension with zypper or yast will
get Hibernate and be fine, but I'm aware that we don't normally package
extensions unless they're installed by default, so I sent this email to:
1) Explain why we should package this even if we don't install it by
default.
2) Suggest that we should continue to install it by default. :-) This
isn't covered by my SRs, and I don't know how to do it anyway.
Happy Friday,
Michael Catanzaro

Hi all,
I've completed the Adwaita SUSE GTK+ 2, GTK+ 3, and GNOME Shell themes
for GNOME 3.4 and GNOME 3.6. I'd really appreciate if you'd try them out
and provide feedback. (Please note that if anyone besides me installed
the package "gnome-themes-suse" that I published a week ago, that should
be uninstalled before proceeding - it's split into subpackages now.)
For openSUSE 12.2 with GNOME 3.4:
zypper ar -f
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:Golbats_Everywhere:GNOME-3.4…
For openSUSE Factory with GNOME 3.6:
zypper ar -f
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:Golbats_Everywhere:GNOME-3.4…
Now
zypper ref
zypper in gtk2-metatheme-adwaita-suse
gtk3-metatheme-adwaita-suse gnome-shell-theme-suse
Open Tweak Tool (Advanced Settings), and on the Themes tab, change the
GTK+ theme, Metacity (or "Current") theme, and Shell themes to
AdwaitaSUSE. Optionally set the icon theme to Sonar.
There is also a GitHub repo:
https://github.com/Catanzaro/gnome-themes-suse/
Please note that the color you see when highlighting text is the same as
in the new KDE theme, to provide some (little) unity between the
desktops. The other colors were mostly chosen to compliment this.
I'd love to hear whether you think this is suitable as the default theme
for openSUSE 12.3, and also any other feedback you might have. Thanks!

I spent an hour today playing around with changing the blue elements of
Adwaita to green. I've got zero themeing experience, I couldn't find
everything that needed changed, and I didn't spend any time when picking
my shades of green... so my work isn't very good, but it was dead simple
to do, and it doesn't look that bad.

I've got two lines of questioning here:
1) Am I nuts for wanting this? Anyone else interested? Could something
similar happen for 12.3?
2) Highly specific question: any chance somebody knows where to change
the color for field borders? For example, press Ctrl + L in Nautilus and
the Location field is highlighted in blue, that's one of the only blues
I haven't been able to get rid of yet.
Thanks and happy Sunday,
Michael

I'm getting the errors below while jhbuilding (this was the only
failure for ostree but there may have been more for gnome-shell). It
hangs at this point until I ^C and skip the module. The last change I
made between working and not working (for ostree, anyway) was to
install a few missing dependencies from here:
https://live.gnome.org/JhbuildDependencies/OpenSUSE
Has anyone else seen this?
Thanks,
Mike

In 12.3 Milestone 1 or 2, I'm prompted for the root password whenever I
try to shutdown or restart from within GNOME session. If I don't supply
it, then I get logged off instead. If I try to shutdown or restart from
GDM, I'm still prompted for the root password.
Sometimes it just says "Authentication required to power off", other
times it says "Authentication required when other users are signed on" -
even if no other user is logged on, and even if there's only one user
account on the system.
Is this happening to anyone else? I didn't spot anything related on
Bugzilla.
I also notice that sometimes I do not have rights to "Unlock" any
options in System Settings - the switch is grayed out - which means I
can't change the time, add users or printers, etc. But other times the
switch is not grayed out.

I access resources in an Active Directory domain from my laptop. What
is the best way to manage Kerberos tickets from GNOME3? I has assumed
there would be a Kerberos "online account", but that isn't available.
Adding Kerberos to 'the system' via YaST does not work well as it is my
laptop and that assumes my account == my AD account.

I have an Evolution window open on a workspace.
I go to a different workspace.
In the activity bar I right-click the Evolution icon and select "New
Window".
A new window does not open.
To get a second Evolution window I need to go to the first window and
select File -> New Window
This is true on both my laptop and my workstation.

I should be able to help with that, luckily I know a little about artwork, and a colour swap shouldn't be beyond my capabilities.
I've got your off list email, and hope to look at this stuff when I get home from work in a few hours
