[opensuse-support] GRUB(?) config to boot without splash

Hi, all -- I had occasion to reboot today after updating (side note -- I would LOVE it if I could say "no, I don't want to reboot just now, so let's leave out those updates this time" *sigh*) and once again had to hit Esc to dump the splash screen and actually see the boot progress. Yes, I'm an old-school text guy :-) Is there a [presumably] GRUB config that will skip the splash and stay in text mode until login time? The person, the user, that is seated at the machine (the server in this case) who has an open and active desktop session. That user gets permission to use sound, video, cdrom, etc via policykit, I understand. The display manager (gdm, whatever) handles this. With remote sessions in a server you probably need some other method of getting those permissions, perhaps the traditional way of belonging to the needed groups. -- Cheers Carlos E. R. I have had, in the last couple of days, a couple of incidents of system paralysis, where lights on the k/b flash, and the cursor disappears from the screen. This is on a "desktop" computer (that actually sits on the floor) that is only a couple of months old. Checking the temperatures with zypper shows the cpu temp is reasonable. I have installed hddtemp, but it wants a name for the ssd: linux1:/usr/sbin # hddtemp Too few arguments: you must specify one drive, at least. [opensuse-support] hdmi 'exact duplicate' output to TV screen?

I used to be able to set this up 'relatively' easily, now i can't at all! Wanting to watch netflix i want exactly and all of what i see & hear on my laptop to be seen and heard on the TV (fed via an AV-tuner/amp into which the other end of my hdmi csable plugs). As it is, I cannot see results on the TV until i plug in the hdmi cable, but once i do, then the kde pagers shrink to unreadable size and the mouse shows on the TV only where there is only a partial duplication. (i use two vertical panels, one on each side). Hi, Tumbleweed somehow lost "man" with the updates. I checked recently "man chown" and got (in German) basically "no entry found" lux-tw:~ # man chown Kein Handbucheintrag für chown vorhanden then I checked "man find" and got lux-tw:~> man find Wenn 'man' kein Tippfehler ist, können Sie command-not-found benutzen, um das Paket zu finden, das den Befehl enthält, z. [opensuse-support] exporting a kmail setup to another computer.

Before going through all the hoops os a new setup I decided to export my existing kmail onto my laptop. Found the export instructions and made a nice zip (automatically) and copied that zip file on my laptop. Importing should be easy I thought but the import program did see all the data but at the moment that I decided ti import them I was surprised by the information that it could not read my zip file. And that although it read the contents without hesitation. What went wrong. Need some help.

I booted a Live-TW in an attempt to fix a non-booting ssd with Leap and TW on it. If I do a "mount /dev/sdx /" followed by "ls /" I still get the live DVD root. If I do "mount /dev/sdx /mnt" then the partition lists with "ls /mnt". Why can I not change the system / to the partition I want? Also tried to get Yast to do a BootLoader routine, it seems to go through the steps but the ssd which remains unbootable ( I suppose iot was never written to). When I insert a CD or DVD into its drive, the Removable Media module presents a series of choices for accessing it; all of the possibilities seem to be GUI tools. Is there a way to access it from e.g. Konsole? It appears to mount under system:/ or media:/, but that doesn't seem to be known by Konsole. Hi Folks, I'm trying to install openSUSE Tumbleweed on a laptop and the installation errors early on when its trying to refresh the https://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/tumbleweed repository details. The error message reported is: ---snip--- Wrong Digest The expected checksum of file /var/tmp/AP_0xp8UPnm/repodata/susedata.xml.gz is fa47ae8244fe7640f149d28964e604bf7e756da989d7e520f67216a96bb6cfb2, but the current checksum is 1f4dc420bfbf3d1b423cd7c4e1ca6aa25d7a13daff70c64e412f0ed449602406. The file has been changed by accident or by an attacker since the repository creator signed it. Using it is a big risk for the integrity and security of your system. Use it anyway? [] Do not show this message again [ YES ] [ NO ] ---snip--- I can consistently reproduce this on the laptop as well as in a Virtualbox VM.
