[opensuse-gnome] Contrib and G:C

In today's meeting, we tried to clarify the distinction between the new Contrib repository project and GNOME:Community. In a nutshell, we feel that Contrib is the community version of OSS/Non-OSS, in that packages are stable and released with the distro, and likely will only issue security updates and such during the lifetime of that distro version. Whereas, GNOME:Community (or G:C) is considered to be more bleeding edge. Likely, some things from OSS/Non-OSS might also get moved over to Contrib if enough community members can maintain it, thus relieving Novell of some of the packaging work and freeing up its devs. So it was decided that it is evident that we need to appoint a volunteer to monitor G:C/Contrib/OSS/Non-OSS and coordinate what packages need to be copied over to Contrib. But before we do that, we felt it was important to first determine what guidelines we as a group agree upon for how to determine the criteria for submitting to Contrib. And we're discussing that here and now. Note: No possible criteria was brought up during the meeting itself. Clean slate here. An example package we used in today's meeting was Pidgin. At what point do we feel that Pidgin in G:C is ready to be copied over to Contrib for the next distro release? [opensuse-gnome] Wiki Meeting Summary

Well, for just a whirlwind summary, we met for the wiki cleanup and have come up with a few tasks to take care of. I kept a bulleted list of the discussion here: http://en.opensuse.org/User:Hobbsc/GNOME_Wiki_Cleanup_Notes I’ll start work on a mockup of a landing page in the next few days. I will also open up discussion on the list once I’ve got something solid in place. The mockup (currently blank) will be available here: http://en.opensuse.org/User:Hobbsc/GNOME_Wiki_Mockup Thanks to everyone who attended, I appreciate all the input. I think this will work out well for us. Lastly, I have a bit of a support request. We’ll be periodically checking the /GNOME section of the wiki for lost or un-necessary pages. Does anyone know of a simple way to search for lost pages under /GNOME? What about a way to track page changes under that namespace? -- Christopher M. [opensuse-gnome] Timeshift discussion

Regarding our weekly openSUSE-GNOME meetings, we had a discussion this morning about our regularly scheduled timeshift meetings which occur first of the month at 11:00 UTC. It was agreed that that hour isn't proving effective in getting regular attendance and that we needed to consider a more optimal time, if we even continue timeshifts at all. I've discussed possibilities with several people in different key areas globally to get a feel and am presenting the findings for discussion on this email thread. Please review and communicate your thoughts. Depending on the responses, we may go with the new timeshift next week: Option 1) Eliminate Timeshifting altogether. This would make it very difficult for people in eastern Asia/Australia to attend meetings. Option 2) Create new timeshift for 23:00 UTC. This seems to get the widest support globally. However, India (Our beloved Evo team) would be left out. I discussed with Srag, and they were unable to attend the old timeshift meeting anyway and for them regular time meetings are best. They said they would be comfortable with missing a timeshift meeting. FYI: 23:00 UTC = 6 p.m. for you folks in the U.S. Midwest and Mexico, and late evening (after Rodrigo's television shows) in Europe and 9 a.m. in Sydney, land of the Magnus. Your thoughts and comments please! [opensuse-gnome] New Timeshift Meeting for openSUSE-GNOME this Thursday

Heads up, GNOMEies, there's a new TimeShift in town! The openSUSE-GNOME Team is experimenting with a new timeshift meeting time. We regularly host our timeshifted meetings at 11:00 UTC for the first Thursday of the month. This ended up in very low attendance when we wanted to reach out to as many people globally as possible. The new timeshift will be 22:00 UTC beginning this Thursday, October 2nd. I'm unable to attend many meetings at all, because the normal meeting time is during school for me and the timeshift is at 5 or so in the morning (I'm on the U.S. Gulf Coast, Central Time). [opensuse-gnome] GNOME 2.24

Now that the latest and greatest has emerged from the garden shed, I have been asked by a couple of people if GNOME is going to have a 1-click available for users that have no regard for sanity to upgrade to this fine specimen. I have added the topic to the agenda for today's meeting, but I would appreciate some help/advice in getting this done. I have told people it will take possibly a week for me to do it (hopefully I can meet this self imposed deadline). Decriptor has kind of volunteered to help out, but one of the key things I think I need is the package list/pattern for a GNOME install/upgrade. Hello, Should we enable PolicyKit support with gnome-applets? I just checked it, and what it does, is to allow the user to change CPU Frequency Scaling as per the PK-file below.
