[opensuse-gnome] GNOME 2.24 on openSUSE 11.0 - "Progress report"

Hello, I've been working on the weekend to get as many packages as possible to build. Had as many as 280 (out of ~360) packages building successfully. What I've currently have done is this; gtk2 =================== Add "Requires: pcre-devel" to the -devel package if suse_version <= 1100 Don't run "rm $RPM_BUILD_ROOT/%{_libdir}/gtk-2.0/modules/*.la" unless suse_version > 1100 glib2 =================== Add "Requires: pcre-devel" to the -devel package if suse_version <= 1100 Don't run "rm $RPM_BUILD_ROOT%{_libdir}/*.la" unless suse_version > 1100 glitz2 =================== Don't run "rm -f %{buildroot}%{_libdir}/*.la" unless suse_version > 1100 gdm (Have not actually looked to closely on this one yet) =================== Don't require selinux unless suse_version > 1100 When it comes to pixman... xorg-x11-libs-devel is installed for every package we build. AFAIK, we can't "Obsolete" files in .spec, only packages, so building a separate pixman package will not work (unless you have some clever tricks up your sleeve). ATM, I copied xorg-x11-libs and only updated pixman in there. I also filed a bug (https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=439019) to split out pixman from that package. [opensuse-gnome] Interesting space saving trick for our packages...

If we're doing translations etc the same way as RH, it'd be worth looking at, since we could potentially fit more goodies on the LiveCD :-) Any takers? [opensuse-gnome] GNOME repo tidy up

Is it worth removing the 10.2 repos from G:* now or wait until the official EOL in a week or two? Personally I think it'd be easier if it was done now, and helps with the maintenance/tidiness of the repos. Hi everybody, I was just stumbling over gDesklets and wanted to give them a try. Installed them using zypper on my Factory notebook. starting gdesklets seems to try to start the gdesklet-daemon, but this fails. Is anyone of you using them and they work? [opensuse-gnome] Contrib and G:C

In today's meeting, we tried to clarify the distinction between the new Contrib repository project and GNOME:Community. In a nutshell, we feel that Contrib is the community version of OSS/Non-OSS, in that packages are stable and released with the distro, and likely will only issue security updates and such during the lifetime of that distro version. Whereas, GNOME:Community (or G:C) is considered to be more bleeding edge. Likely, some things from OSS/Non-OSS might also get moved over to Contrib if enough community members can maintain it, thus relieving Novell of some of the packaging work and freeing up its devs. So it was decided that it is evident that we need to appoint a volunteer to monitor G:C/Contrib/OSS/Non-OSS and coordinate what packages need to be copied over to Contrib. But before we do that, we felt it was important to first determine what guidelines we as a group agree upon for how to determine the criteria for submitting to Contrib. And we're discussing that here and now. Note: No possible criteria was brought up during the meeting itself. Clean slate here. An example package we used in today's meeting was Pidgin. At what point do we feel that Pidgin in G:C is ready to be copied over to Contrib for the next distro release? Hello, While trying to get GNOME 2.24 build on openSUSE 11.0, I found that with our BuildRequires, a lot of packages will build against old versions in 11.0. Reason for this is that we, in most cases, don't use something like: BuildRequires: xyz-devel >= x.y.z This causes the repo to be rebuilt frequently against old/new packages. So, my question is, should we try to fix this up (obviously not against all packages at once)? Chaps and Chapesses, I'd like to move Gwibber from home:FunkyPenguin:gwibber to G:C. Before I do I'd like to make sure that A)it's OK, B)adding the required deps that aren't present is also OK. They are python-egenix-mx-base and python-simplejson. For those that don't know Gwibber, it is a microblogging client for Social Networks, it can talk to Twitter/Identi.ca/Jaiku/Facebook/Digg/Flickr/Pownce. [opensuse-gnome] Enable G:F for 11.0 (or Factory - 1)

Hello, At the moment, we do all this work to get the latest GNOME into GNOME:Factory. At the same time, we don't have a "Latest GNOME" for poeple that run the currently released version of openSUSE. I'd like to think that one way of serving our users would be to simply enable it to build for Factory - 1 version (11.0 as of today) as well. This would require a couple of people that watch out for build failures due to version dependencies that exists in Factory, but not in the released product, and add/link them to G:F, but make sure they are disabled for Factory. Packages such as hal and d-bus springs to mind. Would this be something that we could do? I'd be interested in helping out to make sure stuff builds...
